Los Llanos in Venezuela are wide grasslands occupying western Venezuela and northeastern Colombia. This land is also full of creepy legends.

In this episode, Carmen shares the legend of La Candileja, the Anima Sola and the Legend of the Revengeful Woman from La Pastora. Cristina shares a very horrible true crime case from Venezuela. Linda Loaiza was kidnapped and held captive for 3 months, while police refused to investigate. When she finally escaped, seeking justice proved to be even more difficult. Her kidnapper/abuser was the son of an important person in Venezuela.

00:00:05.639 --> 00:00:08.800
Hi. This is Christina and Carmen and this is another

2
00:00:08.839 --> 00:00:11.080
episode of a Spooky Tale. It's a podcast for all

3

things as pooky, true crime and all that. Yeah, are

4
00:00:15.199 --> 00:00:17.879
you tired today? No? I was gonna like say the

5
00:00:17.920 --> 00:00:19.679
long version, and then I was like, do I need to?

6
00:00:19.800 --> 00:00:23.000
I don't think so? Oh okay, So but no, I'm

7
00:00:23.000 --> 00:00:27.800
not like super tired. No. Surprisingly, today we're talking about

8
00:00:28.320 --> 00:00:31.679
legends from Venezuela and I have a case roof from

9
00:00:31.800 --> 00:00:38.399
Venezuela that is very depressing. So oh wonderful, it's horrible. Yeah, okay, Well,

10
00:00:38.759 --> 00:00:41.399
if that's all you're gonna say, we can get into

11
00:00:41.439 --> 00:00:44.039
the listener story. We can. Yeah, And if you have

12
00:00:44.079 --> 00:00:46.479
a story that you want to send us, you can

13
00:00:46.520 --> 00:00:49.039
email as Spookyito's at gmail dot com. You can DM

14
00:00:49.119 --> 00:00:52.560
us on any of our socials, and you can sibit

15
00:00:52.560 --> 00:00:55.079
it on Discord. You can call this Pooky hotline. There's

16
00:00:55.079 --> 00:00:56.520
a lot of ways to get it to us. We

17
00:00:56.600 --> 00:01:00.200
love receiving them. All right, Okay, so this is from Jessica,

18
00:01:00.399 --> 00:01:04.480
who said we could use her name. Hey Jessica, So

19
00:01:04.719 --> 00:01:07.159
Jessica says, I have I guess I guess kipt up

20
00:01:07.200 --> 00:01:09.319
already starting it Anyway, I have no idea if y'all

21
00:01:09.359 --> 00:01:11.439
will ever even see this email, but I just want

22
00:01:11.480 --> 00:01:13.359
to start off by saying that I really enjoy your

23
00:01:13.359 --> 00:01:16.079
podcast and I recently joined the Discord. Anyway, if you

24
00:01:16.079 --> 00:01:18.560
do happen to see this, fear free to use my name.

25
00:01:18.680 --> 00:01:21.840
I have lots of creepy, weird, and really just unexplainable

26
00:01:21.920 --> 00:01:24.560
things that happened to me throughout my life. So if

27
00:01:24.560 --> 00:01:27.200
you were like, I can definitely submit more. Yes, we

28
00:01:27.239 --> 00:01:30.079
would like that, we would like, we would The one

29
00:01:30.120 --> 00:01:32.439
I want to share with you now, though, is about

30
00:01:32.439 --> 00:01:34.640
a house I lived in as a kid. So to

31
00:01:34.719 --> 00:01:36.560
start out, let me give you an idea of the

32
00:01:36.599 --> 00:01:40.159
location of this home. It was in the sticks. Interesting,

33
00:01:40.159 --> 00:01:43.000
I've never heard that expression before, and have you really? Yeah,

34
00:01:43.040 --> 00:01:45.439
I feel like the Boonies the sticks. I've heard the

35
00:01:45.439 --> 00:01:47.680
Boonies and I've heard like the cuts, but I've never

36
00:01:47.719 --> 00:01:51.920
heard the sticks. Can we use the Boonies and the

37
00:01:51.959 --> 00:01:53.719
six or not? The six? The Boonies and the cut?

38
00:01:53.799 --> 00:01:56.400
Yea more than we ever used the sticks, But I've

39
00:01:56.439 --> 00:01:59.359
heard it. I just yeah, Okay, So anyway, this was

40
00:02:00.040 --> 00:02:02.560
in the sticks. My mom had remarried and her and

41
00:02:02.599 --> 00:02:06.920
my stepdad found this house near the Virginia North Carolina border.

42
00:02:07.079 --> 00:02:09.719
They had already been living there for a while before

43
00:02:09.800 --> 00:02:12.960
I initially saw the house because I lived with my grandma.

44
00:02:13.039 --> 00:02:15.199
So my mom picks me up one day and says,

45
00:02:15.400 --> 00:02:17.879
I'm going to show your new house. We drive for

46
00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:21.680
what feels like forever, seeing more cows than people, and

47
00:02:21.800 --> 00:02:25.039
just acres and acres of farms and tobacco fields. Finally

48
00:02:25.159 --> 00:02:27.400
we arrived at the house. As soon as we pull

49
00:02:27.479 --> 00:02:29.520
into the driveway, I have this feeling of what I

50
00:02:29.560 --> 00:02:33.639
can only describe as uneasiness and sadness. The house is old.

51
00:02:33.919 --> 00:02:37.199
I'm talking old school keyholes on the doors for those

52
00:02:37.319 --> 00:02:41.719
vintage skeleton keys. Wow. The layout is weird. The room

53
00:02:41.759 --> 00:02:44.280
that was supposed to be my room had two doors.

54
00:02:44.520 --> 00:02:46.879
You could enter through the door in the hallway across

55
00:02:46.919 --> 00:02:49.199
from the living room, and you could exit out of

56
00:02:49.240 --> 00:02:51.800
another door that led to the back porch of the house,

57
00:02:52.120 --> 00:02:55.960
essentially walking through the room and exiting to the back porch.

58
00:02:56.319 --> 00:02:58.680
I always thought this was weird. There were two closets

59
00:02:58.680 --> 00:03:01.159
in this room, but the closet were strange because when

60
00:03:01.159 --> 00:03:04.520
you open the doors, there wasn't a rod for hangers. Instead,

61
00:03:04.800 --> 00:03:06.680
there was a lot of shells. From the top of

62
00:03:06.719 --> 00:03:10.080
the closet to the bottom. The entire room was painted blue.

63
00:03:10.360 --> 00:03:13.159
The wood, floors, the walls, the ceiling all blue. This

64
00:03:13.319 --> 00:03:16.159
room always felt dark, didn't matter if it was in

65
00:03:16.159 --> 00:03:18.560
the middle of a bright summer day with the curtains

66
00:03:18.599 --> 00:03:21.319
wide open, or the ceiling light and all the lamps

67
00:03:21.360 --> 00:03:24.000
were on. You cannot shake the darkness. What I remember

68
00:03:24.039 --> 00:03:27.000
most was the overwhelming sadness I felt in my room,

69
00:03:27.039 --> 00:03:30.560
just a deep sorrow, and always the feeling of being watched.

70
00:03:30.759 --> 00:03:34.520
One night, when I'm in bed, I hear footsteps, heavy steps,

71
00:03:34.520 --> 00:03:36.800
and I was expecting my mom or step dout to

72
00:03:36.879 --> 00:03:39.520
walk into the room, but the steps continue to get

73
00:03:39.560 --> 00:03:42.400
closer until it sounds like it's right next to my bed,

74
00:03:42.560 --> 00:03:45.080
but I never see anyone. Then I realized my nose

75
00:03:45.159 --> 00:03:48.560
is bleeding. Oh. I start screaming my head off, and

76
00:03:48.639 --> 00:03:50.800
my mom comes in the room, freaked out about all

77
00:03:50.840 --> 00:03:53.120
the blood coming from my nose and on my pillow.

78
00:03:53.240 --> 00:03:56.159
I'm hysterically trying to tell her what happened, but being

79
00:03:56.199 --> 00:03:58.599
a parent, she says it was just a vivid dream,

80
00:03:58.759 --> 00:04:03.080
even though she's bleeding. Even though she's actively bleeding, I

81
00:04:03.199 --> 00:04:05.479
refuse to sleep in the room. She comforts me for

82
00:04:05.520 --> 00:04:07.840
a bit, then goes back to her bedroom. I sit

83
00:04:07.879 --> 00:04:10.159
in the living room, determined to stay awake until the

84
00:04:10.199 --> 00:04:12.560
sun comes up. So I'm watching TV, and we had

85
00:04:12.599 --> 00:04:15.879
an entertainment center that had glass doors. In the glass doors,

86
00:04:15.919 --> 00:04:18.199
you can see the reflection of the hallway and my

87
00:04:18.279 --> 00:04:21.079
bedroom door. I think, I don't like where this is going.

88
00:04:23.680 --> 00:04:26.199
I'm scared already. I look at the reflection of the

89
00:04:26.279 --> 00:04:29.480
hallway and the entertainment center and I see two people

90
00:04:29.519 --> 00:04:32.319
standing there like they're peering around the corner into the

91
00:04:32.399 --> 00:04:36.040
living room. No, my miss no, but not trying to

92
00:04:36.079 --> 00:04:38.879
be seen. Reminds me of Martha's story, Like no, yeah,

93
00:04:38.959 --> 00:04:43.360
the things peaking out of hallways and walls. No, yeah,

94
00:04:43.639 --> 00:04:46.519
that's the worst. I freeze, and I think to myself,

95
00:04:46.720 --> 00:04:48.720
I know I'm not seeing what I think I'm seeing.

96
00:04:49.279 --> 00:04:52.000
I stare for what feels like forever, and they're still there,

97
00:04:52.160 --> 00:04:55.160
and they're turning their heads looking at each other like

98
00:04:55.199 --> 00:04:59.319
they're having a conversation. No. No, Eventually I get up

99
00:04:59.319 --> 00:05:01.439
and sprint to my mom's room and sleep in there.

100
00:05:01.560 --> 00:05:03.480
The next day, I go back to my grandma's house

101
00:05:03.519 --> 00:05:05.279
and stay with her for the rest of the school,

102
00:05:05.959 --> 00:05:08.639
they didn't go back. I don't blame I don't blame them.

103
00:05:08.800 --> 00:05:11.800
No either. My mom and stepdad continue to live there

104
00:05:11.879 --> 00:05:14.839
until they moved to Florida years later. So fast forward

105
00:05:14.920 --> 00:05:17.160
to me now being an adult, and I'm just talking

106
00:05:17.160 --> 00:05:19.600
to my mom one day, like, hey, do you remember

107
00:05:19.600 --> 00:05:22.120
that weird house we used to live in? And she's like, oh, yeah,

108
00:05:22.240 --> 00:05:25.199
when your stepdad and I were moving out, the landlady

109
00:05:25.240 --> 00:05:27.360
came to tell us goodbye and settle everything, but she

110
00:05:27.399 --> 00:05:30.800
wouldn't come inside the house. Oh no, that's not a

111
00:05:30.839 --> 00:05:33.680
good sign. Oh my god, not at all. She asked

112
00:05:33.680 --> 00:05:36.720
my mom, did anything strange ever happened in the house,

113
00:05:36.959 --> 00:05:39.120
And my mom just looks at her and says, yeah,

114
00:05:39.160 --> 00:05:41.079
are you fucking serious right now? Yeah, why didn't you

115
00:05:41.120 --> 00:05:44.800
mention this ship before? Yeah, we had some experiences, but

116
00:05:44.879 --> 00:05:47.720
she doesn't go into detail. And then the landlady proceeds

117
00:05:47.720 --> 00:05:50.000
to tell my mom, Oh, this house used to be

118
00:05:50.040 --> 00:05:52.160
a church way back in the day. They would have

119
00:05:52.199 --> 00:05:54.959
funerals and there was an old cemetery outback. If you

120
00:05:55.000 --> 00:05:57.199
walk far enough into the woods you can find it.

121
00:05:57.480 --> 00:06:00.800
And did she not tell them this before? No, they

122
00:06:00.800 --> 00:06:03.920
didn't know. Wait, wait, so the things I tell people

123
00:06:04.040 --> 00:06:06.920
before it gets worse. Oh my god, guess where the

124
00:06:06.920 --> 00:06:10.000
bodies were kept and the wakes were held for these funerals.

125
00:06:10.279 --> 00:06:14.560
The fucking blue room. Yes, you know when a room

126
00:06:14.720 --> 00:06:17.240
in a house is hunt is painted in one color

127
00:06:17.279 --> 00:06:22.920
and like it's a sinister room, like in what is it? Insidious?

128
00:06:23.040 --> 00:06:24.639
I don't know what movie it is. Isn't there like

129
00:06:24.680 --> 00:06:26.920
a red room or some shit? I don't know the

130
00:06:26.959 --> 00:06:30.879
blue room, the red room watching Citio is Oh you shouldn't.

131
00:06:31.000 --> 00:06:32.800
The thing is, I never get around to watching scare

132
00:06:32.839 --> 00:06:35.600
movies because I like scar movies. I don't like watching

133
00:06:35.600 --> 00:06:38.040
them by myself. And the only other person who's always

134
00:06:38.079 --> 00:06:40.600
here is, of course my husband, because he lives here

135
00:06:41.040 --> 00:06:43.959
and he doesn't like scary movies like yesterday yesterday? Wait

136
00:06:43.959 --> 00:06:45.920
wait wait wait wait? Is this story done? So no,

137
00:06:46.199 --> 00:06:51.000
hold on, I'll get I'll finished this story my story later.

138
00:06:51.519 --> 00:06:55.519
But back to Jessica's story, Yes, thank you. Hence the

139
00:06:55.600 --> 00:06:58.839
room having an entrance door and an exit door leading

140
00:06:58.879 --> 00:07:02.680
outside to the backport. The closets were for embalming supplies

141
00:07:02.720 --> 00:07:06.000
and whatever tools are needed for prepping a body for funerals,

142
00:07:06.319 --> 00:07:08.319
and that's why they had all the shelves. The room

143
00:07:08.439 --> 00:07:11.399
was painted blue because in the South, the older generations

144
00:07:11.439 --> 00:07:15.439
believe painting your ceiling blue, especially the front porch ceiling,

145
00:07:15.480 --> 00:07:18.040
would keep the best spirits away. I guess it didn't

146
00:07:18.040 --> 00:07:22.600
work for her. Apparently the color is called haunt blue

147
00:07:22.879 --> 00:07:25.519
or hand. I'm not sure. It just built ha and T,

148
00:07:25.639 --> 00:07:28.879
so it must be hand hand blue, hand being an

149
00:07:28.959 --> 00:07:32.600
old Southern word for ghost. Interesting. So when my mom

150
00:07:32.639 --> 00:07:34.360
tells me all this, I go home and I do

151
00:07:34.439 --> 00:07:37.120
some internet salothing and find out the road the house

152
00:07:37.199 --> 00:07:40.759
church was built on is one of the nation's oldest roads,

153
00:07:41.040 --> 00:07:44.839
connecting North Carolina to Virginia. And when I say old,

154
00:07:44.879 --> 00:07:48.319
I mean old, like pre electricity and cars. So there

155
00:07:48.319 --> 00:07:51.399
are pictures of people on this website and covered horse

156
00:07:51.639 --> 00:07:55.240
drawn wagons. So that's one of Jessica's stories. And she

157
00:07:55.439 --> 00:07:58.439
apologized for it being long, but honestly, we love it. Yes,

158
00:07:58.560 --> 00:08:01.360
Jessica girl, we love it. Whichisca has one last paragraph?

159
00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:04.319
Oh okay, I've had lots of weird stuff happened to

160
00:08:04.360 --> 00:08:06.839
me living in the South. My grandma told me lots

161
00:08:06.839 --> 00:08:10.040
of stories about different people in our family and their experiences,

162
00:08:10.240 --> 00:08:13.199
like how I had a great great grandfather that was

163
00:08:13.199 --> 00:08:16.319
a literal brujo that people would seek out for help.

164
00:08:16.600 --> 00:08:18.920
The story of how he met his wife is quite

165
00:08:18.920 --> 00:08:22.399
interesting too. Well, Jessica, send us all of your stories

166
00:08:22.439 --> 00:08:24.759
and they can make this as long as you need

167
00:08:24.800 --> 00:08:28.319
them to be. Yes, also what I was saying, so, yeah,

168
00:08:28.360 --> 00:08:30.560
the reason I don't watch that much scary movies is

169
00:08:30.560 --> 00:08:33.519
because my husband doesn't like them. And then the other day,

170
00:08:33.639 --> 00:08:36.559
I mean, he's been in the mood supposedly for Halloween movies,

171
00:08:36.600 --> 00:08:39.480
but we're talking like kid Halloween movies, right, Oh my god,

172
00:08:39.600 --> 00:08:42.360
that's so funny, and I can see it, like this

173
00:08:42.519 --> 00:08:47.480
is funny. We were on Disney Plus and I was

174
00:08:47.519 --> 00:08:49.679
like scrolling through the movies. But also he doesn't like

175
00:08:49.879 --> 00:08:53.000
he doesn't like rewatch because I like rewatching the same

176
00:08:53.600 --> 00:08:57.120
like set of Halloween and Christmas movies every year, the

177
00:08:57.159 --> 00:08:59.840
same ones me too. He doesn't like that, so I'm like,

178
00:09:00.360 --> 00:09:03.440
you're really limiting me here. And also he didn't want

179
00:09:03.440 --> 00:09:05.679
to watch like Halloween movies he hasn't seen. Like then,

180
00:09:05.720 --> 00:09:10.000
what are the options like new kid Halloween movies. There's

181
00:09:10.039 --> 00:09:12.799
not a lot. There's not. So yesterday I pute went

182
00:09:12.840 --> 00:09:17.080
on from Disney from like last year or twenty twenty one.

183
00:09:17.399 --> 00:09:21.159
What was it about a Mummy? It Radio TVG by

184
00:09:21.159 --> 00:09:24.919
the way rated? G oh god? Is it under the raps? Yes?

185
00:09:25.080 --> 00:09:28.679
It was under the raps? Yeah, so we were watching that. Wow.

186
00:09:28.759 --> 00:09:33.039
I have no words. That's sad. Yeah. Yeah, so wow,

187
00:09:33.159 --> 00:09:36.279
Like we will live near each other, right, I could

188
00:09:36.360 --> 00:09:40.519
watch We could just watch all the movies together with Mummy. Yeah.

189
00:09:41.360 --> 00:09:45.159
Like He'll rely watched Hogus Pocus, those ones and Nightmare

190
00:09:45.200 --> 00:09:47.720
before Christmas. But that's about it. Like, and I always

191
00:09:47.720 --> 00:09:49.759
want to watch, like what is the practical magic? I've

192
00:09:49.799 --> 00:09:52.480
never seen it. He never wants to watch it. But anyway,

193
00:09:52.480 --> 00:09:55.480
that's my struggle every Halloween and every Christmas. Oh wow,

194
00:10:00.200 --> 00:10:03.159
Well you have some legends from Venezuela for us, right

195
00:10:03.360 --> 00:10:05.960
I do, Okay, So first up, we have the legend

196
00:10:06.159 --> 00:10:09.720
of the fireball aka La cadi Leja. So the legend

197
00:10:09.840 --> 00:10:13.200
of La Cadileka comes from the area of Los Janos,

198
00:10:13.200 --> 00:10:15.879
which is a stretch of land that goes from southern

199
00:10:15.960 --> 00:10:20.000
Venezuela to northern Colombia. This is where the legend of

200
00:10:20.039 --> 00:10:24.240
El Silbon and Lasajon are also from. Really maybe because

201
00:10:24.240 --> 00:10:27.759
of all the it's like forest, right h or jungle

202
00:10:27.799 --> 00:10:34.840
I guess technically like rurally jungly trees, you know, very scary. Yeah,

203
00:10:34.879 --> 00:10:37.799
so the legend goes a long time ago, there was

204
00:10:37.840 --> 00:10:41.519
a beautiful woman named the Candelaria who had a lovely

205
00:10:41.600 --> 00:10:44.840
figure and luscious hair. Her skin was brown and her

206
00:10:44.879 --> 00:10:51.919
eyes were blue like the sky. I thought they were

207
00:10:51.919 --> 00:10:54.679
going to be brown. I'm sorry. There's something about brown eyes,

208
00:10:54.759 --> 00:10:58.559
y'all that we love. Is it because we have brown eyes?

209
00:10:59.200 --> 00:11:02.480
The majority of our people have brown eyes. Yes, that

210
00:11:02.600 --> 00:11:05.000
is why. As time went on, she got married to

211
00:11:05.039 --> 00:11:08.159
a man named Stevan, but her life didn't turn out

212
00:11:08.200 --> 00:11:10.879
to be a fairy tale. Instead, she soon came to

213
00:11:10.960 --> 00:11:15.799
accept that she married a womanizer and a cheater. Of course,

214
00:11:17.720 --> 00:11:23.639
the story the story of many women, many women. Okay,

215
00:11:23.720 --> 00:11:26.799
So one day Stevan told his wife that he had

216
00:11:26.840 --> 00:11:28.960
to go on a trip to a remote part of

217
00:11:29.000 --> 00:11:32.360
the country. Candeladia, now wanting to be alone, begged him

218
00:11:32.399 --> 00:11:35.039
to take her with him, but Stevan once again said no,

219
00:11:35.159 --> 00:11:37.600
probably because he was going to go meet his second

220
00:11:37.639 --> 00:11:41.039
family over there. Yeah, or third, fourth family, we don't know. Know.

221
00:11:41.120 --> 00:11:44.440
It's upset with her husband's physician and knowing that he

222
00:11:44.559 --> 00:11:48.159
wasn't going to change his mind. Candeladia decided that if

223
00:11:48.159 --> 00:11:50.639
she wasn't able to go on the trip, neither would he.

224
00:11:51.039 --> 00:11:57.279
Oh okay, Candadida, Oh I support her wrongs. I just

225
00:11:57.320 --> 00:12:00.240
feel like it's easier to leave than to whoop back

226
00:12:00.279 --> 00:12:03.120
then A no back, then, I take it back, I

227
00:12:03.200 --> 00:12:07.080
take it back. So that night, Candeladia prepared her husband

228
00:12:07.120 --> 00:12:15.559
a tea and added an extra ingredient poison. Okay, Cyani.

229
00:12:16.360 --> 00:12:19.559
So soon her husband fell himself, drifting into sleep until

230
00:12:19.600 --> 00:12:26.240
eventually he died. Yeah. Another legend says that Candelaria instead

231
00:12:26.279 --> 00:12:30.240
grabbed an axe and chopped her husband into pieces. That's graceful,

232
00:12:30.320 --> 00:12:33.639
but okay, not very demure. Oh not at all. This

233
00:12:33.720 --> 00:12:41.159
is the opposite of demure. Yeah, mindful axe murder axe,

234
00:12:41.600 --> 00:12:45.159
not mindful at all. A little messy, just a bit

235
00:12:45.639 --> 00:12:49.000
so either way, Candeladia convinced her sons to help her

236
00:12:49.120 --> 00:12:51.679
get rid of her husband's body. Oh I don't know

237
00:12:51.720 --> 00:12:54.919
about that. Doesn't this just say what? Okay? I guess

238
00:12:54.960 --> 00:12:57.080
it might not say, but right now, the thought that

239
00:12:57.120 --> 00:13:01.519
popped in my head was that does this not say

240
00:13:01.519 --> 00:13:04.559
what kind of man he was? Because the sons were

241
00:13:04.559 --> 00:13:07.039
willing to help the mom hide the body, do you

242
00:13:07.080 --> 00:13:10.120
know what I mean. Okay, okay, I can see it.

243
00:13:10.279 --> 00:13:12.679
But it could also be that the mom was like

244
00:13:13.080 --> 00:13:16.039
abusive in controlling and then they listen to bees to that.

245
00:13:16.240 --> 00:13:18.159
It could go either way, but I'm going to go

246
00:13:18.200 --> 00:13:21.120
with my first theory. The revengeful woman then began to

247
00:13:21.200 --> 00:13:24.120
play the role of a grieving widow in front of

248
00:13:24.200 --> 00:13:26.759
the townspeople so no one would suspect the thing. When

249
00:13:26.840 --> 00:13:30.120
new admirers would approach her and try to get her attention,

250
00:13:30.320 --> 00:13:33.200
Candelaria would tell them that there was only room for

251
00:13:33.320 --> 00:13:36.600
one in her heart, her husband, Oh my god. Instead,

252
00:13:36.679 --> 00:13:40.440
Gandeladia became possessive of her sons, who eventually became teenagers

253
00:13:40.480 --> 00:13:42.919
and helped her take care of her and the household.

254
00:13:43.080 --> 00:13:44.879
This made it hard for the young men to find

255
00:13:44.879 --> 00:13:47.240
a wife of their own, since their jealous mother would

256
00:13:47.240 --> 00:13:50.039
scare away any young lady that came near them. Oh no,

257
00:13:50.879 --> 00:13:55.559
as yours went on, her sons lived unhappy lives dedicated

258
00:13:55.600 --> 00:13:59.320
to pleasing their mother. Mmmm, that's not healthy Candelardia. Why

259
00:13:59.720 --> 00:14:03.360
very boy mom of her? Yeah, so she murdered her

260
00:14:03.440 --> 00:14:06.759
husband and became a boy mom. Wow, that's the real

261
00:14:06.799 --> 00:14:11.399
horror story. This is the dark side of boy, mom's okay.

262
00:14:12.320 --> 00:14:15.559
Eventually the controlling and bitter women died while she was

263
00:14:15.600 --> 00:14:18.440
expecting to go to heaven. No way, how did she

264
00:14:18.480 --> 00:14:21.039
expect that? And then I come on, get it together.

265
00:14:21.240 --> 00:14:25.200
They were never allowed in there. You murdered, You murdered

266
00:14:25.279 --> 00:14:28.720
your husband. So when it keep to confront God about

267
00:14:28.720 --> 00:14:31.720
her actions, God decided to punish her for not allowing

268
00:14:31.759 --> 00:14:36.159
her sons to find a wife or happiness. Oh oh oh,

269
00:14:36.240 --> 00:14:40.320
so not for the murder. Murder is okay, okay, okay.

270
00:14:40.519 --> 00:14:43.240
Not letting your sons live their lives. That's the okay,

271
00:14:43.360 --> 00:14:47.240
that's the real sin, real sin. Wow. Yeah, wow, okay,

272
00:14:47.639 --> 00:14:50.960
I'm a little surprised me too. That was a turn

273
00:14:51.039 --> 00:14:55.279
I didn't expect. Yeah. So God decided that Candeladia would

274
00:14:55.320 --> 00:14:58.320
instead become a ball of fire for the rest of eternity.

275
00:14:58.559 --> 00:15:01.519
Her soul would not be allowed to rest, and instead,

276
00:15:01.559 --> 00:15:03.840
her eternal soul would be trapped in a ball of

277
00:15:03.879 --> 00:15:07.120
fire with the sole purpose of scaring men who stray

278
00:15:07.720 --> 00:15:10.240
far from their home at night. I'm sorry now, she

279
00:15:10.320 --> 00:15:12.000
was doing it life too though, to her sons, like

280
00:15:12.039 --> 00:15:15.080
not letting them stray at all from home. Yeah, and

281
00:15:15.159 --> 00:15:17.960
that's what she was doing okay, and she's just doing

282
00:15:17.960 --> 00:15:20.080
that in the afterlife. More of the same for her.

283
00:15:20.159 --> 00:15:22.879
But now she's a fireball. Yep. So if you're a

284
00:15:22.919 --> 00:15:25.240
man who might be out at night, perhaps thinking about

285
00:15:25.320 --> 00:15:29.360
cheating on your wife, be careful you don't come across Candelaria.

286
00:15:29.440 --> 00:15:31.919
If you are unlucky to come across her, it said

287
00:15:31.919 --> 00:15:34.279
that she'd appear as a bright ball of fire with

288
00:15:34.559 --> 00:15:37.960
three flames that's followed by an intense sound and shaking.

289
00:15:38.320 --> 00:15:41.320
Other parts of the country though, believe that Candelaria has

290
00:15:41.360 --> 00:15:45.039
a different origin. Some say that Candelaria is the spirit

291
00:15:45.120 --> 00:15:48.279
of an old woman who didn't properly raise her two sons.

292
00:15:48.480 --> 00:15:52.000
She let her sons run wild, disrespect the townspeople, and

293
00:15:52.080 --> 00:15:56.360
even use her as a mule to carry them around. Wow. Wait,

294
00:15:56.399 --> 00:15:59.320
I let my nephews see that. Now wait a minute,

295
00:15:59.399 --> 00:16:02.600
Oh my god, am I going to be punished? When

296
00:16:02.639 --> 00:16:05.440
the old woman died, God punished her for not raising

297
00:16:05.480 --> 00:16:07.840
her children right and forced her to be a battle

298
00:16:07.879 --> 00:16:12.360
of fire comprised of three flames which represent her and

299
00:16:12.440 --> 00:16:16.200
her two sons. Yet, some locals believe that Gandelaria is

300
00:16:16.240 --> 00:16:18.639
a woman who burned in her home with her two sons.

301
00:16:19.120 --> 00:16:22.480
Oh regardless if you come across the gandelaria, don't bother

302
00:16:22.600 --> 00:16:25.399
praying or asking for God's help since it said that

303
00:16:25.720 --> 00:16:31.120
this only triggers her and makes a bigger ball of fire. Okay, wow, yeah,

304
00:16:31.399 --> 00:16:32.919
I could see why that would trigger her since it

305
00:16:33.000 --> 00:16:38.559
was God who gave her that punishment. Yeah that guy, bitch,

306
00:16:38.720 --> 00:16:41.600
what excuse me? You think it's going to help you?

307
00:16:43.480 --> 00:16:50.799
There is no God here. Creepiest line ever. Yeah, okay.

308
00:16:50.919 --> 00:16:53.879
Next we have the legend of the Anima Sola. The

309
00:16:53.960 --> 00:16:57.120
Anima sola is said to be an apparition or soul

310
00:16:57.240 --> 00:17:01.320
in purgatory that dedicates eternity to doing harm to others.

311
00:17:01.639 --> 00:17:05.240
According to legend, the Anima Sola is supposedly the soul

312
00:17:05.359 --> 00:17:08.720
of Celestina Avegano, a woman who was part of the

313
00:17:08.880 --> 00:17:13.960
crowd of onlookers who witnessed jesus crucifixion. Interesting, what she's

314
00:17:13.960 --> 00:17:16.160
doing there? She mean them like what she did in

315
00:17:16.200 --> 00:17:19.079
Venezuela and not in the Middle East. Right, So it

316
00:17:19.240 --> 00:17:22.200
said that later that evening, you know, after she watched

317
00:17:22.279 --> 00:17:25.480
this who was being crucified, Celestina went to the hill

318
00:17:25.599 --> 00:17:29.880
where Jesus and two others were crucified on she approached

319
00:17:29.920 --> 00:17:33.359
the men besides Jesus and gave them water, but out

320
00:17:33.400 --> 00:17:36.400
of fear, did not give Jesus any water. For this

321
00:17:36.720 --> 00:17:39.839
act that she was punished and sentenced to purgatory, where

322
00:17:39.880 --> 00:17:45.160
she would burn and experienced thirst forever. In Venezuela. Yeah,

323
00:17:45.480 --> 00:17:48.880
in Venezuela, the Anima Sola is well known, and people

324
00:17:48.960 --> 00:17:51.880
in that country say she's a powerful and revengeful soul

325
00:17:52.000 --> 00:17:54.920
with the ability to move objects with her mind. It's

326
00:17:55.240 --> 00:17:58.039
said that when she appears before people, she looks like

327
00:17:58.119 --> 00:18:00.960
a young, beautiful woman who had time. Also appears in

328
00:18:01.079 --> 00:18:04.519
chains and surrounded by flames. Many in Venezuela who are

329
00:18:04.599 --> 00:18:07.000
desperate for a miracle also reach out to her and

330
00:18:07.160 --> 00:18:10.400
offer her a gift and return for a miracle or favor.

331
00:18:10.640 --> 00:18:14.079
But I said before, the Anima Sola is revengeful and

332
00:18:14.759 --> 00:18:17.119
if at any moment a person forgets to keep their

333
00:18:17.359 --> 00:18:19.880
end of the deal, the Anima Sola is said to

334
00:18:20.000 --> 00:18:23.920
appear and seek revenge, sometimes even killing those who had

335
00:18:24.000 --> 00:18:27.720
wronged her and dragging their soul to help wow. One

336
00:18:27.799 --> 00:18:30.640
famous account tells the story of an older lady who

337
00:18:30.759 --> 00:18:33.319
forgot one night to light the candles she promised to

338
00:18:33.440 --> 00:18:36.119
light for the Anima Sola. On that night, the woman

339
00:18:36.440 --> 00:18:38.960
was home when someone ranging her doorbell. When the lady

340
00:18:39.079 --> 00:18:41.279
opened the door, she saw it was an old friend

341
00:18:41.279 --> 00:18:43.799
of hers. Delighted by the visit, the woman welcomed her

342
00:18:43.839 --> 00:18:45.839
friend into her home. But as soon as her friend

343
00:18:46.119 --> 00:18:48.759
enter the living room, she turned into a large, dark

344
00:18:48.880 --> 00:18:53.559
shadow that quickly pulled the old woman by her hair. Wow,

345
00:18:53.759 --> 00:18:56.839
poor woman, horri fine, it just gets worse. Oh God.

346
00:18:57.119 --> 00:19:00.519
The large shadow then repeatedly beat the woman, and so

347
00:19:00.640 --> 00:19:03.400
she was covered in blood. I didn't expect the helder

348
00:19:03.480 --> 00:19:10.119
abuse from Nima. You can expect anything spiritual elder abuse. Yeah.

349
00:19:10.640 --> 00:19:13.880
The fragile old lady, with the little strengths she had left,

350
00:19:14.039 --> 00:19:17.240
crawled into the room where her dad was and lit

351
00:19:17.319 --> 00:19:19.400
the candle she forgot to light. She got on her

352
00:19:19.519 --> 00:19:22.200
knees and begged the Anima Sola to forgive her for

353
00:19:22.480 --> 00:19:26.160
forgetting to light the candle. The shadow then disappeared, and

354
00:19:26.240 --> 00:19:29.000
the old lady promised the Anima Sola once again that

355
00:19:29.119 --> 00:19:31.279
she would never forget to light a candle in her name,

356
00:19:31.640 --> 00:19:34.319
and it said. The woman lit the candle for the

357
00:19:34.400 --> 00:19:37.400
Anima Sola until she died bit with a beating. I

358
00:19:37.400 --> 00:19:40.720
would forget Ei there. Oh my god, it was just

359
00:19:40.839 --> 00:19:44.440
one night that she forgot. I would be dead. I

360
00:19:44.480 --> 00:19:47.920
would have forgotten so much, even if it can be

361
00:19:48.279 --> 00:19:58.920
like yes, yeah, I wouldn't. Oh my god, poor lady. Okay,

362
00:19:59.000 --> 00:20:03.079
So next week have the legend of the revengeful woman

363
00:20:03.200 --> 00:20:06.160
from La Pastora. And that's just her name. Okay, I'm

364
00:20:06.319 --> 00:20:09.279
loving all these women except the elderlys. That's kind of

365
00:20:09.319 --> 00:20:11.359
like that was a little messed up. Yeah, but you

366
00:20:11.440 --> 00:20:14.240
know what, she she could have ended it right then

367
00:20:14.279 --> 00:20:16.680
and there, and she did it right. She's around the

368
00:20:16.759 --> 00:20:19.640
beating when the old lady let the candle like she

369
00:20:19.799 --> 00:20:24.440
was opposed to. So I guess, yeah, I'm not saying

370
00:20:24.480 --> 00:20:30.559
it's right. I'm just saying I understand that. Oh my god. Okay.

371
00:20:30.640 --> 00:20:34.559
So this revengeful woman from Lapastora, in the region of

372
00:20:34.640 --> 00:20:37.599
La Pastora Karakas. There's the story of a young woman

373
00:20:37.640 --> 00:20:40.720
who was the daughter of a very Catholic woman. Started

374
00:20:40.720 --> 00:20:43.839
out wrong. Now, yeah, this is already like I don't

375
00:20:43.880 --> 00:20:46.480
know about this. Yeah. So one day the young woman

376
00:20:46.640 --> 00:20:50.000
found out her fiance was cheating on her. Heartbroken and

377
00:20:50.200 --> 00:20:52.839
desperate to punish her partner for what he did to her,

378
00:20:53.519 --> 00:20:55.839
she went searching for a witch she could help her

379
00:20:55.960 --> 00:21:01.400
invoke satanas. Oh all right. When the witch summoned Satan,

380
00:21:01.519 --> 00:21:04.079
the woman offered him her soul if he would help

381
00:21:04.119 --> 00:21:07.119
her get revenge on her two timey boyfriends or fiance.

382
00:21:07.480 --> 00:21:10.200
Satan accepted the deal, and at that very moment, once

383
00:21:10.240 --> 00:21:13.240
the deal was sealed, two horns grew out of the

384
00:21:13.279 --> 00:21:17.440
woman's head and the woman became instantly mute. Ah, what

385
00:21:17.640 --> 00:21:20.720
kind of revenge is this? Yeah, but she didn't care,

386
00:21:20.920 --> 00:21:23.200
because now she had the power to punish the man

387
00:21:23.240 --> 00:21:25.240
who had broken her heart, so she went out in

388
00:21:25.319 --> 00:21:28.599
search of vengeance. Later on, when the devil came across

389
00:21:28.759 --> 00:21:30.880
the woman again, he was shocked by the harsh and

390
00:21:31.039 --> 00:21:34.440
painful death the woman put her ex fiance through. Ooh,

391
00:21:34.960 --> 00:21:39.480
okay wow. Impressed by her evilness, the devil allowed the

392
00:21:39.519 --> 00:21:41.920
woman to stay on earth where she can continue to

393
00:21:42.000 --> 00:21:45.400
punish those who cheat. Okay, woman from La Pastora, I'm

394
00:21:45.440 --> 00:21:48.240
here for it. Yeah, I'm not against it. Wow. I

395
00:21:48.400 --> 00:21:51.920
just wasn't expecting that. No, Yeah, that was that was wild.

396
00:21:52.200 --> 00:21:55.119
Usually deals with the devil don't go die. Well, so

397
00:21:55.519 --> 00:21:58.319
that's what she wanted. She wanted to get revenge, and

398
00:21:58.440 --> 00:22:01.480
then she was able to keep getting revenge and other

399
00:22:01.640 --> 00:22:05.720
cheating men. So her dreams came true. Yeah, and like

400
00:22:05.799 --> 00:22:09.160
we say, support her rights and her wrongs. That was

401
00:22:09.200 --> 00:22:14.279
the last one. Oh okay, wow, very interesting our women

402
00:22:14.400 --> 00:22:19.240
legends too, Yeah, loved it. Okay, wow, Hey feminism Okay, Venezuela,

and like I said before at the beginning, it's a

425
00:23:57.319 --> 00:24:00.440
very depressing story. Just a little content warning. This is

426
00:24:00.480 --> 00:24:02.960
a true crime case from Venezuela that involves, you know,

427
00:24:03.400 --> 00:24:08.799
a woman who was kidnapped and during her kidnapping or captivity,

428
00:24:08.880 --> 00:24:12.000
I guess while she was helped captive, horrible, horrible things

429
00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:16.000
happened to her, including sexual and physical abuse. So you know,

430
00:24:16.079 --> 00:24:18.119
if you don't want to hear that, skip my part completely.

431
00:24:18.400 --> 00:24:21.240
Come back to speaking recommendations in like half an hour

432
00:24:21.319 --> 00:24:23.839
or so. All right, So I'm going to be telling

433
00:24:23.839 --> 00:24:27.920
you about the case of Linda Loisa Lopez. Have you

434
00:24:27.960 --> 00:24:30.240
ever heard of this? I don't think I have. Okay,

435
00:24:30.519 --> 00:24:32.720
I hadn't heard of it before I started googling cases

436
00:24:32.759 --> 00:24:34.759
from Venezuela. And why did they keep it in Venezuela

437
00:24:34.799 --> 00:24:38.119
in this episode? So, Linda Loisa Lopez was born on

438
00:24:38.640 --> 00:24:42.960
the twelfth flow December nineteen eighty two in Asulita, Merida, Venezuela.

439
00:24:43.279 --> 00:24:45.400
Her dad was a farm worker and her mom stayed

440
00:24:45.400 --> 00:24:50.559
at home and raised their twelve children. Wow, big family. Yeah,

441
00:24:51.160 --> 00:24:54.960
Linda was the second oldest and there was I think

442
00:24:55.039 --> 00:24:58.319
we can guess, but a lower income household, and the

443
00:24:58.519 --> 00:25:01.799
family had immigrated from Colombia to try and provide a

444
00:25:01.839 --> 00:25:05.680
better life for their children in Venezuela. It was Linda's

445
00:25:05.920 --> 00:25:10.720
dream to become a tenant. I can't say this, fuck areen, Yes,

446
00:25:10.839 --> 00:25:14.079
thank you? And you know she was eighteen. She had

447
00:25:14.119 --> 00:25:16.119
recently graduated high school, so she was going to make

448
00:25:16.160 --> 00:25:18.359
that dream happen. She had always been a hard working

449
00:25:18.400 --> 00:25:20.880
person and when she told her family that she wanted

450
00:25:20.880 --> 00:25:24.240
to become a vet, they all supported her. Linda needed

451
00:25:24.279 --> 00:25:26.759
to move from their small town to the big city

452
00:25:26.839 --> 00:25:32.519
of Caracas to attend laou universityda Centrale Venezuela, the Central

453
00:25:32.599 --> 00:25:35.119
University of Venezuela. And because they were so close, her

454
00:25:35.240 --> 00:25:38.519
older sister, Ana Secilia, moved to the city with her

455
00:25:38.640 --> 00:25:41.720
so she wouldn't be by herself. That's nice, yeah, isn't it,

456
00:25:41.839 --> 00:25:43.759
And so she would still have her big sister with her.

457
00:25:43.920 --> 00:25:45.640
And I believe they were like two years apart. So

458
00:25:45.880 --> 00:25:48.519
at this time her sister was twenty and she was eighteen,

459
00:25:48.759 --> 00:25:51.359
and so they rented an apartment in Karakas together and

460
00:25:51.519 --> 00:25:54.000
not long after arriving in the city, in fact, just

461
00:25:54.200 --> 00:25:57.960
one month after arriving, on March twenty seven, two thousand

462
00:25:57.960 --> 00:26:02.640
and one, things went completely wrong. So an Acesilia went

463
00:26:02.680 --> 00:26:06.319
to run her errands, groceries things like that, while Linda

464
00:26:06.440 --> 00:26:08.720
got ready for the day, and Linda had been planning

465
00:26:08.720 --> 00:26:11.839
on heading to the university to do paperwork or things

466
00:26:11.920 --> 00:26:15.319
she needed to get done before her classes actually started

467
00:26:15.319 --> 00:26:17.759
because they were about to start, so she was getting

468
00:26:17.799 --> 00:26:20.640
ready for that, and so they went their separate ways

469
00:26:20.920 --> 00:26:24.359
and Ascesilia returned from her errands to their shared department

470
00:26:24.480 --> 00:26:27.799
in the afternoon, and Linda was not back yet, and

471
00:26:27.920 --> 00:26:30.400
she found this odd, but she didn't think much of it.

472
00:26:30.799 --> 00:26:33.440
She was like, Okay, maybe she met someone at the university,

473
00:26:33.880 --> 00:26:36.039
but it was still kind of weird to her because

474
00:26:36.200 --> 00:26:38.880
they were new to the city and they hadn't done

475
00:26:39.279 --> 00:26:42.279
much like, oh, let's go meet people, so it's not

476
00:26:42.400 --> 00:26:45.319
like she knew anyone. Ten hours went by and now

477
00:26:45.960 --> 00:26:48.599
an as Sicilia was really worried and she went down

478
00:26:48.599 --> 00:26:50.799
to the local police station to try and report her

479
00:26:50.880 --> 00:26:56.039
sister missing, and the police told her that she needed

480
00:26:56.079 --> 00:26:59.119
to wait forty eight hours to report someone missing. Then

481
00:26:59.480 --> 00:27:03.440
they also told her that Linda was probably just she

482
00:27:03.559 --> 00:27:05.880
probably just ran out with her boyfriend or something, and

483
00:27:05.960 --> 00:27:08.680
that they weren't going to get involved with a lover squirrel.

484
00:27:09.160 --> 00:27:11.400
Did she even have a boyfriend? No, they were branding

485
00:27:11.480 --> 00:27:14.480
to the city, and was like, no, but she doesn't

486
00:27:14.519 --> 00:27:17.119
have a boyfriend, and they didn't care. No, they were like, no,

487
00:27:17.200 --> 00:27:19.039
she probably doesn't. You just don't know about it, so

488
00:27:19.079 --> 00:27:23.960
that's ridiculous, very and so they didn't listen. Anascilia had

489
00:27:24.000 --> 00:27:26.119
to go back to their apartment and she just didn't

490
00:27:26.119 --> 00:27:28.680
know what to do. Two days later, she got a

491
00:27:28.759 --> 00:27:31.400
phone call and it was a man who told her

492
00:27:31.519 --> 00:27:34.519
he was Linda's boyfriend and that Linda was fine, but

493
00:27:34.599 --> 00:27:36.279
she didn't want to talk to her that she was

494
00:27:36.359 --> 00:27:38.079
with him now and she didn't want to go back.

495
00:27:38.319 --> 00:27:41.519
And I'm not sure about this part. Every thing I

496
00:27:42.160 --> 00:27:45.480
read or watched or listened to about this part said

497
00:27:45.519 --> 00:27:48.240
that it was like a block number. But somehow she

498
00:27:48.480 --> 00:27:51.039
like I don't know, press like called back a bunch

499
00:27:51.079 --> 00:27:54.039
of times until it eventually worked something like that. And

500
00:27:54.400 --> 00:27:57.079
I don't really understand this part of it. But somehow

501
00:27:57.200 --> 00:27:59.680
she was able to call back after trying for a

502
00:27:59.759 --> 00:28:03.799
long time and showed her caller ID with the name

503
00:28:03.960 --> 00:28:07.279
Louis Antonio Carrera al Moyna. And I mean, like, I know,

504
00:28:07.400 --> 00:28:09.519
back then you could like no, I mean, you could

505
00:28:09.640 --> 00:28:11.960
block numbers yourself, your own number by like putting like

506
00:28:12.079 --> 00:28:16.160
star what was it eighty something? I don't remember, But

507
00:28:16.279 --> 00:28:18.880
I just I don't understand how she got the number

508
00:28:19.119 --> 00:28:21.000
or got like, you know, was able to call back.

509
00:28:21.160 --> 00:28:23.640
There was a way to unblock them too, Okay, so

510
00:28:23.759 --> 00:28:25.480
that must have been what she did. I just don't

511
00:28:25.480 --> 00:28:28.119
remember it much. I remember prank calling and things, but

512
00:28:28.240 --> 00:28:32.039
like I don't remember, yeah much anymore about old phones.

513
00:28:32.240 --> 00:28:34.279
So she was able to call the number back, and

514
00:28:34.359 --> 00:28:36.119
then she was able to see a caller idea with

515
00:28:36.200 --> 00:28:39.160
that name and with this information, and a Cecilia went

516
00:28:39.240 --> 00:28:41.559
back to the local police. She gave him the phone

517
00:28:41.640 --> 00:28:44.400
number and the name, and they reassured her that they

518
00:28:44.440 --> 00:28:47.799
would follow up. But I think we all know where

519
00:28:47.839 --> 00:28:51.279
this is going. Yeah, they didn't do anything, and it

520
00:28:51.519 --> 00:28:55.960
took an additional four trips from Cecilia to go back

521
00:28:56.000 --> 00:28:59.680
for them to actually open an investigation. Wow, And how

522
00:28:59.759 --> 00:29:01.480
much time I had passed at this by this point,

523
00:29:01.680 --> 00:29:05.319
Probably a week or two, okay, maybe maybe a couple

524
00:29:05.359 --> 00:29:08.079
of weeks something like that. So finally, you know, a

525
00:29:08.079 --> 00:29:11.000
couple of weeks later there was some news. Louise called

526
00:29:11.079 --> 00:29:14.720
Ana Cecilia again and told them to leave them both

527
00:29:14.759 --> 00:29:17.440
alone and hung up. And then she got another call

528
00:29:17.599 --> 00:29:19.759
right after that, and this time it was Linda and

529
00:29:19.880 --> 00:29:22.400
she told Ana Cecilia to leave her alone, that she

530
00:29:22.519 --> 00:29:25.599
wants to be with Louise now, of course, and a

531
00:29:25.640 --> 00:29:28.920
Csilia didn't believe this, yeah, because her sister wouldn't just

532
00:29:29.039 --> 00:29:31.759
leave like this. Still, the police, they weren't doing anything,

533
00:29:31.960 --> 00:29:35.240
and Cecilia went to the I want to say, probably

534
00:29:35.319 --> 00:29:38.440
like the next bigger police department and filed the report

535
00:29:38.519 --> 00:29:42.920
with that department. And now neither department was doing anything.

536
00:29:43.000 --> 00:29:46.319
Oh my God, and if they were, they weren't sharing anything.

537
00:29:46.400 --> 00:29:48.680
But it really more likely is that they weren't investigating

538
00:29:48.720 --> 00:29:52.160
anything at all. Four months went by and this whole time,

539
00:29:52.240 --> 00:29:55.079
and a Cecilia was trying to, you know, see what

540
00:29:55.279 --> 00:29:57.079
was happening and go to the police. The whole time

541
00:29:57.119 --> 00:29:59.559
they were like, no, it's her boyfriend. So four months

542
00:29:59.599 --> 00:30:03.799
went by and one afternoon, July twenty second, Anasisiya got

543
00:30:03.839 --> 00:30:06.319
to her apartment and the front desk and it's not

544
00:30:06.599 --> 00:30:08.400
it's not called the front desk, but like you know,

545
00:30:08.599 --> 00:30:10.279
if you're in an apartment, there's a place where you

546
00:30:10.640 --> 00:30:14.480
if they can't find your apartment, they leave your package,

547
00:30:14.599 --> 00:30:16.680
like in an office, you know, yeah, yeah, Like so

548
00:30:16.759 --> 00:30:19.000
it was like an office for the apartments they lived in.

549
00:30:19.160 --> 00:30:21.839
And they handed her a letter. She opened it and

550
00:30:21.960 --> 00:30:24.359
it said that her sister had been found and that

551
00:30:24.440 --> 00:30:29.079
she was in the hospital Clnico University TiO University, Venezuela,

552
00:30:29.240 --> 00:30:32.519
so the hospital at the university in Caracas. And so

553
00:30:32.799 --> 00:30:35.519
she immediately left and went to go see her sister.

554
00:30:36.039 --> 00:30:38.440
When she got to the fifth floor of the hospital,

555
00:30:38.799 --> 00:30:42.319
she could not believe what she was seeing. It was Linda,

556
00:30:42.440 --> 00:30:45.440
her sister, in the hospital bed but she was in

557
00:30:45.559 --> 00:30:51.519
terrible shape. Linda looked malnourished. Her eyes were bruised, swollen.

558
00:30:52.039 --> 00:30:55.839
One of her eyes were It wasn't like straight anymore.

559
00:30:55.920 --> 00:30:58.160
It was like just like loose in her eye socket.

560
00:30:58.319 --> 00:31:02.720
Oh my god. Her jaw was broken and she couldn't

561
00:31:02.759 --> 00:31:05.680
talk because of the broken jaw. She was bruised all over,

562
00:31:06.279 --> 00:31:09.720
her limbs had partial burns. And this is just what

563
00:31:09.960 --> 00:31:13.640
Anna Cecilia could visibly see. But her injuries were far

564
00:31:13.799 --> 00:31:17.880
more severe. The hospital said that Linda should be dead,

565
00:31:18.160 --> 00:31:20.279
that's how bad she was. Like they couldn't believe that

566
00:31:20.359 --> 00:31:24.279
she was alive. Doctors compared her injuries to a traumatic

567
00:31:24.480 --> 00:31:28.079
car accident. Oh wow, and this part is terrible. And

568
00:31:28.720 --> 00:31:32.799
this is the total list of injuries. She was disfigured, malnourished.

569
00:31:32.960 --> 00:31:35.680
Her right eye formed a counteract and was loose in

570
00:31:35.759 --> 00:31:39.559
her eye socket. Her jaw had three fracture fractures. Both

571
00:31:39.599 --> 00:31:44.079
of her ears were disfigured with chronic injuries from continued beatings.

572
00:31:44.200 --> 00:31:47.680
There was internal bleeding in her abdomen. She had cigarette

573
00:31:47.680 --> 00:31:51.920
burns everywhere, including her breasts. One of her nipples was

574
00:31:51.960 --> 00:31:56.720
cut off completely. She had tarrying in her uterus. Her

575
00:31:56.839 --> 00:32:00.559
nose was broken. She was hospitalized for one full year,

576
00:32:01.079 --> 00:32:07.200
and she underwent sixteen surgeries, including several facial reconstruction surgeries.

577
00:32:07.920 --> 00:32:10.240
It took her six months to learn how to walk again.

578
00:32:10.640 --> 00:32:12.960
When Ascilia got that letter, she had already been in

579
00:32:13.039 --> 00:32:15.599
the hospital for three days. What she got one letter?

580
00:32:15.839 --> 00:32:20.400
When Ascilia was notified that was found she had already

581
00:32:20.400 --> 00:32:22.359
been in the hospital for three days yet, Okay, because

582
00:32:22.359 --> 00:32:25.200
they notify her real letter and letter is not immediate right,

583
00:32:25.920 --> 00:32:28.039
Oh wow? I mean they could have called her, right,

584
00:32:28.279 --> 00:32:30.119
you would think, I don't know, maybe they were trying

585
00:32:30.119 --> 00:32:34.599
to find out who she was. Yeah, yeah, terrible. So

586
00:32:35.200 --> 00:32:38.079
after that, it took another four months to find out

587
00:32:38.119 --> 00:32:41.119
what actually happened because for some reason, police would not

588
00:32:41.279 --> 00:32:46.359
allow Linda to speak with her lawyer about anything. What. Yeah,

589
00:32:46.759 --> 00:32:48.839
and even the fact they could do this is shocking

590
00:32:48.880 --> 00:32:51.160
to me. What would even be the reason for that.

591
00:32:51.759 --> 00:32:54.440
They kept saying there was like an investigation. She wasn't

592
00:32:54.480 --> 00:32:57.000
allowed to say anything. But it's like, Okay, that's her lawyer,

593
00:32:57.240 --> 00:33:00.240
that's like a legal right. You just stop her. Yeah yeah,

594
00:33:00.519 --> 00:33:05.039
But somehow they did what And even during that time,

595
00:33:05.279 --> 00:33:08.200
they also didn't let her see her family again they

596
00:33:08.279 --> 00:33:10.720
kept saying because the investigation was open, and that just

597
00:33:10.799 --> 00:33:14.440
doesn't make any sense. Yeah, So during those four months

598
00:33:14.680 --> 00:33:17.319
she only saw her family like two times. Oh wow.

599
00:33:17.720 --> 00:33:20.240
And then finally they allowed her to talk to her

600
00:33:20.359 --> 00:33:23.480
lawyer and that's how everyone find out what took place

601
00:33:23.799 --> 00:33:27.279
on the day she was kidnapped, the day she went missing,

602
00:33:27.440 --> 00:33:31.559
which again was March March twenty. On the day she

603
00:33:31.599 --> 00:33:34.160
went missing, Linda was on her way out of the

604
00:33:34.240 --> 00:33:37.519
apartment when she noticed a man was following her and

605
00:33:37.720 --> 00:33:39.720
she know she tried to keep walking, but suddenly she

606
00:33:39.799 --> 00:33:42.160
felt a gun on her back. Oh my gosh, and

607
00:33:42.319 --> 00:33:45.200
he told her if she didn't follow his instructions, he

608
00:33:45.240 --> 00:33:47.440
would kill her. And then he made her get in

609
00:33:47.519 --> 00:33:50.799
his car and took her to a hotel named Aventura,

610
00:33:51.240 --> 00:33:54.799
where he beat her. This is terrible, very very And

611
00:33:55.039 --> 00:33:57.519
at that hotel he beat her made her eat soap,

612
00:33:57.759 --> 00:34:01.279
which is what, like why just because he could, I guess.

613
00:34:01.519 --> 00:34:03.640
After a few days there, he took her to his

614
00:34:03.759 --> 00:34:07.359
apartment in Rosal, Caracas, so a neighborhood in Caracas, and

615
00:34:07.440 --> 00:34:09.639
then he locked her in the room. This is where

616
00:34:10.159 --> 00:34:15.320
he physically and psychologically abused her, starved her. The beatings

617
00:34:15.400 --> 00:34:20.000
got worse every time Linda, Linda's sister so Ana Cecilia,

618
00:34:20.119 --> 00:34:23.199
tried to either call him back or went to the police.

619
00:34:23.280 --> 00:34:25.119
Like the more she went to the police, the worst

620
00:34:25.280 --> 00:34:28.480
he treated Linda. Oh my god. But how did he

621
00:34:28.639 --> 00:34:32.199
know that she was going to the police. I feel

622
00:34:32.239 --> 00:34:36.239
that he was being notified? Interesting. Yeah. At one point

623
00:34:36.280 --> 00:34:39.719
he showed Linda pictures of other women and told her

624
00:34:39.960 --> 00:34:42.320
that he killed them too, and if she didn't listen,

625
00:34:42.480 --> 00:34:44.840
that she would be one of these women, and that

626
00:34:44.960 --> 00:34:47.119
he just got away with killing them, and it was

627
00:34:47.760 --> 00:34:49.880
eight women. He told her that he had already killed

628
00:34:50.039 --> 00:34:53.480
and Linda spent her days either tied in the closet,

629
00:34:53.639 --> 00:34:56.280
tied to a bed, or tied in the bathroom. If

630
00:34:56.360 --> 00:34:58.920
he wasn't the one who sexually abused her, then he

631
00:34:59.159 --> 00:35:03.159
was trafficking her as well, Oh my god. And she

632
00:35:03.360 --> 00:35:07.039
was only allowed to eat scraps or leftovers that he

633
00:35:07.159 --> 00:35:12.280
didn't want. On July nineteenth, her captor noticed that Linda

634
00:35:12.519 --> 00:35:16.840
was looking really, really really bad. Like to him, she

635
00:35:17.000 --> 00:35:20.199
looked almost dead. She was so weak and injured, and

636
00:35:20.320 --> 00:35:22.239
so he was like, all right, she's like no danger.

637
00:35:22.360 --> 00:35:24.519
He untighter propped her to a chair and then he

638
00:35:24.599 --> 00:35:27.679
made a phone call to his dad and he told

639
00:35:27.760 --> 00:35:29.920
his dad on the phone that he wanted him to

640
00:35:30.039 --> 00:35:33.800
bring black trash backs to him because he planned to

641
00:35:33.840 --> 00:35:36.440
get rid of Linda, that she wasn't useful to him anymore.

642
00:35:36.920 --> 00:35:41.360
And then he left his apartment, and because she already

643
00:35:41.400 --> 00:35:44.880
looked so dead to him, he didn't think she was

644
00:35:44.920 --> 00:35:47.159
going to do anything, so he left his apartment left

645
00:35:47.159 --> 00:35:50.000
her untied. So this is when she dragged herself to

646
00:35:50.119 --> 00:35:53.840
the balcony, opened the door, and then started to scream

647
00:35:54.039 --> 00:35:56.119
at the top of her lungs for help. And just

648
00:35:56.239 --> 00:36:00.239
the fact she had the strategy to energy. Yeah, yeah,

649
00:36:00.360 --> 00:36:04.480
like that's insane, because she was in such bad shape.

650
00:36:04.800 --> 00:36:08.079
Neighbors heard her screams and they called the police, and

651
00:36:08.320 --> 00:36:11.400
so firefighters and the police responded together. They tried to

652
00:36:11.440 --> 00:36:13.320
get her out through the balcony was a ladder, but

653
00:36:13.440 --> 00:36:16.000
then eventually the ladder, not the ladder, the owner of

654
00:36:16.119 --> 00:36:19.079
the building was able to unknock the door for them

655
00:36:19.199 --> 00:36:20.760
and they were able to just put her on, you know,

656
00:36:20.920 --> 00:36:23.679
like a gurney and take her out that way, and

657
00:36:23.760 --> 00:36:26.440
the neighbors couldn't hear like the beating. That's what I'm

658
00:36:26.480 --> 00:36:29.239
wondering maybe not, I don't know, or maybe they didn't

659
00:36:29.239 --> 00:36:30.920
want to get involved. I mean, it could be a

660
00:36:30.960 --> 00:36:35.199
possibility that they didn't maybe like, yeah, we just don't know,

661
00:36:35.360 --> 00:36:37.199
but maybe, yeah, maybe they couldn't hear it, because it

662
00:36:37.239 --> 00:36:39.800
wasn't until she opened the doors and like screamed at

663
00:36:39.840 --> 00:36:42.519
the top of her lungs and they helped her right away. Yeah,

664
00:36:42.800 --> 00:36:45.559
so yeah, maybe they couldn't hear. I don't know, I'm wondering.

665
00:36:46.000 --> 00:36:49.079
So then she was taking it to the hospital after that,

666
00:36:49.440 --> 00:36:51.840
and as soon as she got to the hospital hospital,

667
00:36:51.920 --> 00:36:53.679
she named the man who did this to her, and

668
00:36:53.800 --> 00:36:56.800
also her sister also had already known who it was.

669
00:36:57.119 --> 00:37:01.159
Her sister already told the police, and when Linda got

670
00:37:01.199 --> 00:37:03.559
to the hospital, she gave them the same name, Louis

671
00:37:03.639 --> 00:37:07.239
Garera al Moyna, and they weren't doing anything about it.

672
00:37:07.679 --> 00:37:11.559
Understand he happened to be the son of a very

673
00:37:11.880 --> 00:37:18.079
famous writer slash professor or director of a university slash

674
00:37:18.280 --> 00:37:22.320
had very deep political connections in the country. Oh my god,

675
00:37:22.800 --> 00:37:24.719
I kept wondering, like, what the fuck and what the

676
00:37:24.760 --> 00:37:26.880
fuck and what the fuck is going on that they're

677
00:37:26.960 --> 00:37:29.880
not doing shit? And now it makes sense, but I'm sorry.

678
00:37:29.920 --> 00:37:32.440
If if I had a son and he was out

679
00:37:32.480 --> 00:37:35.920
there doing horrible shit, Look, it doesn't matter, that's my son.

680
00:37:35.960 --> 00:37:39.199
I turned him in myself. Yeah, I would take him back.

681
00:37:39.239 --> 00:37:42.039
There's probably a man who does not value a woman,

682
00:37:42.239 --> 00:37:44.880
and so I guess it's fine with the psychopath of

683
00:37:44.920 --> 00:37:48.239
a son he raised or whatever. Right, it doesn't matter

684
00:37:48.320 --> 00:37:51.960
to him. Hm. Wow. So yeah, that's why it took

685
00:37:52.159 --> 00:37:55.880
authorities a long time to even pretend to investigate him,

686
00:37:56.519 --> 00:37:59.559
because even when they opened it an investigation, it wasn't

687
00:37:59.639 --> 00:38:02.880
they weren't. They still weren't doing anything that during this time,

688
00:38:03.079 --> 00:38:06.400
while he was even called Bryan, that he was untouchable

689
00:38:06.480 --> 00:38:11.119
because of his father's political connections. That's unbelievable. I mean,

690
00:38:11.159 --> 00:38:13.119
it's believable, but you know what I mean, Like, I

691
00:38:13.480 --> 00:38:17.159
can't right now. So, even though she had already named him,

692
00:38:17.360 --> 00:38:20.239
police later went to her hospital room and told her

693
00:38:20.320 --> 00:38:23.280
that she was not allowed to name him as the perpetrator,

694
00:38:23.440 --> 00:38:26.559
that he was innocent, and apparently Louise was going around

695
00:38:26.639 --> 00:38:29.679
claiming that they were in a relationship. She was a

696
00:38:29.760 --> 00:38:33.679
sex worker. He actually found her because she had put

697
00:38:34.000 --> 00:38:37.760
her She had advertised her services in the newspaper even

698
00:38:37.800 --> 00:38:40.239
if that was true, that doesn't give him the right

699
00:38:40.400 --> 00:38:42.760
to beat the shit out of her, Like, come on, like,

700
00:38:42.880 --> 00:38:46.000
it's still it still doesn't matter. It's still abuse, even

701
00:38:46.039 --> 00:38:48.800
if they were in a quote unquote relationship, which they

702
00:38:48.880 --> 00:38:53.960
were not. He even showed police officers the newspaper clipping

703
00:38:54.039 --> 00:38:57.480
of her alleged advertisement. I mean, it's like, it's not real.

704
00:38:57.679 --> 00:39:00.400
She was made up, like you typed up somebody, Like

705
00:39:00.480 --> 00:39:04.039
what the hell? Apparently something I don't know. But like

706
00:39:04.199 --> 00:39:07.280
you said, even if she was, it doesn't matter. He

707
00:39:07.360 --> 00:39:10.320
claims that she came to his apartment injured, like in

708
00:39:10.440 --> 00:39:12.599
that state that she was in, and he was taking

709
00:39:12.639 --> 00:39:16.599
care of her. That's so stupid, because any reasonable person

710
00:39:16.679 --> 00:39:19.519
would have taken someone in that condition to the hospital

711
00:39:19.639 --> 00:39:22.639
right away, immediately, right. That's exactly what I was gonna say.

712
00:39:22.639 --> 00:39:24.559
If someone showed up to your door like that, why

713
00:39:24.599 --> 00:39:25.960
would you try to take care of them herself? Why

714
00:39:25.960 --> 00:39:27.400
wouldn't you. I would have been like, I can't do this,

715
00:39:27.519 --> 00:39:31.280
I'm young, doctor, you need medical care. Except obviously he

716
00:39:31.440 --> 00:39:35.960
was lying. Yeah. Yeah, And three years after her rescue

717
00:39:36.400 --> 00:39:40.960
and with the statute of limitations nearing, Linda was still

718
00:39:41.320 --> 00:39:45.920
seeking justice. Oh my god, So she went on a

719
00:39:46.000 --> 00:39:50.519
hunger strike on the steps of the Supreme Court. Wow, Venezuela,

720
00:39:50.920 --> 00:39:54.880
demanding charges to be filed. And she did this hunger

721
00:39:54.960 --> 00:39:59.119
strike having just had a surgery for her pancreas. Wow.

722
00:40:00.000 --> 00:40:03.559
And due to the public attention that her hunger strike

723
00:40:03.679 --> 00:40:07.079
was bringing, they finally pressed charges and the case went

724
00:40:07.119 --> 00:40:12.480
to trial. But I can't, I can't even this is

725
00:40:12.519 --> 00:40:15.760
fucking this is fucking terrible. So the trial, you know,

726
00:40:15.840 --> 00:40:19.039
it finally went to trial, and you think, Okay, finally justice.

727
00:40:19.320 --> 00:40:22.320
But no. During the trial, Linda was subject to re

728
00:40:22.559 --> 00:40:26.679
victimization and was blamed for her own captivity. The defense

729
00:40:27.119 --> 00:40:30.719
claimed she was a sex worker and she clearly enjoyed it.

730
00:40:31.320 --> 00:40:34.239
They called her name No okay, yeah, thank you. No

731
00:40:34.400 --> 00:40:39.199
one would enjoy be be to near death, Like, come on,

732
00:40:39.440 --> 00:40:43.320
she was disfigured, she was burned. Like even if people

733
00:40:43.559 --> 00:40:47.119
because people are into like pain play whatever they call it,

734
00:40:47.320 --> 00:40:50.440
Like that's fine, Like people can be into whatever, but

735
00:40:50.599 --> 00:40:53.440
not to the point where they're actually in about to

736
00:40:53.639 --> 00:40:57.480
die danger and about to die like this is so ridiculous. Yeah,

737
00:40:57.679 --> 00:41:00.679
and again, even if she was a sex worker, this

738
00:41:00.840 --> 00:41:04.639
is still abuse. It doesn't matter. Oh my god. They

739
00:41:04.719 --> 00:41:07.360
called her names, and they said she was a slut,

740
00:41:07.440 --> 00:41:09.880
they called her promiscuous, all the words, you know, all

741
00:41:09.920 --> 00:41:13.760
the words used during trials on women. Aside, I mean,

742
00:41:13.920 --> 00:41:19.119
there was obvious evidence aside from Linda's testimony. The apartment

743
00:41:19.360 --> 00:41:22.639
was full of her blood that was matched to Linda.

744
00:41:22.840 --> 00:41:25.480
That's how much she had been injured. Oh my god,

745
00:41:25.559 --> 00:41:29.519
how do you explain that exactly? And so usually crimes

746
00:41:29.559 --> 00:41:32.800
like these take months to go through trial. It takes

747
00:41:32.960 --> 00:41:36.599
months for the for like the whole thing, everyone to testify,

748
00:41:37.159 --> 00:41:40.559
evidence to be presented, experts, things like that. This one

749
00:41:40.639 --> 00:41:44.000
only lasted a few days. On November fifth, two four,

750
00:41:44.400 --> 00:41:49.960
Judge grossac Gadis not a woman, Yes, a woman acquitted

751
00:41:50.880 --> 00:41:54.920
Louise Garera. What the fuck? She was not a girl's girl,

752
00:41:55.239 --> 00:41:57.639
to say the least, to say the least. Yeah, she

753
00:41:57.760 --> 00:42:00.559
was a fucking bit. No so in evil bitch is

754
00:42:00.599 --> 00:42:03.199
what she was. Okay, go on, unless she was under threat,

755
00:42:03.320 --> 00:42:05.800
I don't know, Okay, yeah, we don't know. She could

756
00:42:05.800 --> 00:42:08.800
have been under threat. We don't know. But Judge Rosacadis

757
00:42:09.159 --> 00:42:13.400
claimed there was reasonable doubt, and then she said Linda,

758
00:42:13.639 --> 00:42:17.679
her sister, and her father should be investigated for operating

759
00:42:17.800 --> 00:42:21.599
a sex work ring. What the fuck she was walking

760
00:42:22.360 --> 00:42:26.519
and she was kidnapped, Like, what the hell? Their dad

761
00:42:26.559 --> 00:42:30.639
didn't even live with them? Yeah, my god. And because

762
00:42:31.199 --> 00:42:34.320
because the judge said those words, a legal case was

763
00:42:34.400 --> 00:42:39.000
opened for defamation against her abuser, Louis Carrera, and to

764
00:42:39.119 --> 00:42:43.639
investigate this supposed sex ring. Okay, but they also opened

765
00:42:43.719 --> 00:42:48.519
up a civil case for defamation, defamation against the judge

766
00:42:49.599 --> 00:42:55.119
against Louise. They opened one saying that Linda was defaming

767
00:42:55.360 --> 00:42:59.599
Louis Carrera for what her abuser, for accusing him of

768
00:42:59.719 --> 00:43:02.800
being an abuser. Oh my god, Oh my god. I

769
00:43:03.159 --> 00:43:06.639
thought this was a new this was a new play

770
00:43:06.760 --> 00:43:09.880
in the playbook. No, no, I didn't know. This was

771
00:43:09.920 --> 00:43:13.000
an old move in the playbook. Yeah, Johnny deb was

772
00:43:13.079 --> 00:43:15.760
not the first to do it. No, wow. Yeah, now

773
00:43:16.360 --> 00:43:19.159
now there was a legal case again to Lynda Loisa.

774
00:43:19.679 --> 00:43:22.360
Oh my god, I don't even like have the word,

775
00:43:22.599 --> 00:43:26.639
like the words to describe how man I am right now, Yeah, okay,

776
00:43:27.079 --> 00:43:30.360
go on, It's just I couldn't believe it. So yeah,

777
00:43:30.440 --> 00:43:33.239
now there was a legal case open against Lena Loisa,

778
00:43:33.320 --> 00:43:36.000
who almost fucking died at the hands of this man,

779
00:43:36.760 --> 00:43:42.519
like unbelievable. So Linda has or Lena Loysa said that

780
00:43:42.679 --> 00:43:46.400
she felt she was the person on trial, not her abuser. Oh,

781
00:43:46.400 --> 00:43:48.880
it was such a such a common sentiment that should

782
00:43:48.960 --> 00:43:52.960
not be a common sentiment. Yeah. She stated it was

783
00:43:53.000 --> 00:43:55.880
the most tragic moment of the whole process because this

784
00:43:56.039 --> 00:43:58.360
was the moment that she realized she wasn't facing just

785
00:43:58.480 --> 00:44:01.400
her abuser, she was facing an entire system that was

786
00:44:01.440 --> 00:44:04.679
against her. Oh. Oh my god. This reminds me of

787
00:44:05.519 --> 00:44:08.159
the book No My Name by Chanelle Miller. It's her

788
00:44:08.239 --> 00:44:13.519
memoir the survivor of brock Turner. That bitch Brock, Yeah,

789
00:44:13.760 --> 00:44:16.400
that bitch as brock Turner. Yeah. And so she talks

790
00:44:16.400 --> 00:44:18.960
about that a lot in the memoir about feeling like

791
00:44:19.079 --> 00:44:21.719
she was the one being put on trial. It's terrible,

792
00:44:21.960 --> 00:44:24.599
and being up against like the whole system. Yeah. So

793
00:44:25.320 --> 00:44:29.920
Linda Loisa obviously appealed this. Fifty nine judges refused to

794
00:44:30.039 --> 00:44:32.920
hear the case. Finally, in two thousand and six there

795
00:44:33.039 --> 00:44:36.039
was a retrial, and this time he was finally sentenced

796
00:44:36.119 --> 00:44:39.960
with six years and one month. Wow, not for the

797
00:44:40.079 --> 00:44:43.800
sexual or physical abuse. The charge was depriving someone of

798
00:44:43.880 --> 00:44:47.760
their freedom. Okay, the kidnapping in the yeah, but not

799
00:44:48.000 --> 00:44:52.440
the torture, rape, sexual violence or attempted murder. Wow. Did

800
00:44:52.480 --> 00:44:55.559
they just not bring those charges forward or they just

801
00:44:55.719 --> 00:44:59.079
drop them? Oh yeah, they dropped them. Wow. So he,

802
00:44:59.519 --> 00:45:02.239
you know, went to the Roveo Jail in Venezuela, but

803
00:45:02.440 --> 00:45:06.480
he was released in two thousand and nine for good behavior.

804
00:45:06.800 --> 00:45:10.039
So not the full six years either, not the full

805
00:45:10.119 --> 00:45:13.599
six years no. Wow. Yeah. And at this point, you know,

806
00:45:13.840 --> 00:45:18.000
it's been years since she survived her attack, her captivity,

807
00:45:18.280 --> 00:45:22.039
and still there was no justice because this man only

808
00:45:22.159 --> 00:45:25.239
faced one charge for what he did to her, nothing else.

809
00:45:25.599 --> 00:45:29.199
And by now, by this time, Linda had become a

810
00:45:29.440 --> 00:45:32.960
lawyer herself. Wow. Yes. And she took the case out

811
00:45:33.000 --> 00:45:37.280
of Venezuela and to the Inter American Commission on Human Rights.

812
00:45:37.599 --> 00:45:40.039
I love this court usually they do the right thing right.

813
00:45:40.320 --> 00:45:43.239
Anytime I looked into things like for third as unknown

814
00:45:43.280 --> 00:45:46.119
and they're mentioned, it's a good thing, good outcome. So

815
00:45:46.320 --> 00:45:48.599
I'll just leave it at that. I'm scared to say

816
00:45:48.639 --> 00:45:51.239
anything's good now because this whole thing has been like

817
00:45:51.400 --> 00:45:55.920
just depressing, shit, fucked up things one after the other. Yeah. Okay,

818
00:45:56.039 --> 00:45:58.239
So Linda wanted to be the one to bring her

819
00:45:58.320 --> 00:46:01.119
own case to the Commission, set of relying on a

820
00:46:01.320 --> 00:46:04.360
legal organization to do it. She graduated law school on

821
00:46:04.400 --> 00:46:07.719
twenty eleven, and then she enrolled in a post graduate

822
00:46:08.199 --> 00:46:13.840
double specialization in international and human rights law. Wow. Wow, wow,

823
00:46:14.199 --> 00:46:17.639
I'm amazed. I mean, for anyone to accomplish this is

824
00:46:17.760 --> 00:46:20.960
huge ripe or for someone who had experienced so much

825
00:46:21.039 --> 00:46:25.159
trauma and too, it's hard to live with trauma and

826
00:46:25.840 --> 00:46:27.280
I don't know. For her to be able to do that,

827
00:46:27.400 --> 00:46:31.239
that's amazing. Yeah, and less than one in one hundred

828
00:46:31.760 --> 00:46:35.199
successful petitions to the Commission make it to court. And

829
00:46:35.440 --> 00:46:39.519
knowing this, she still needed to try the Washington Center

830
00:46:39.599 --> 00:46:44.760
for Justice and International Law and the Venezuelan Venezuelan Committee

831
00:46:44.800 --> 00:46:47.360
of Relatives of Victims of the events of February and

832
00:46:47.679 --> 00:46:51.639
March nineteen ninety nine. It's an organization. Oh what is

833
00:46:51.800 --> 00:46:54.679
that for? I need to look into that. I don't know.

834
00:46:54.920 --> 00:46:57.199
I am assue, mean, something happened. This sounds like a

835
00:46:57.239 --> 00:47:01.840
whole thing. Okay, well yeah, let's break that down. Known. Yes, yeah,

836
00:47:02.039 --> 00:47:06.360
So they joined her as co petitioners and also offered

837
00:47:06.480 --> 00:47:10.719
pro bono legal support. Amazing, amazing, Yes, and her petition

838
00:47:11.079 --> 00:47:15.320
to the Commission was accepted in March twenty fifteen, Linda

839
00:47:15.480 --> 00:47:20.880
Loaisa testified before the IACCHR. I'm abbreviating that I've been

840
00:47:21.000 --> 00:47:24.199
very long. Her case happened to be the first case

841
00:47:24.360 --> 00:47:27.840
involving gender based violence against the state of Venezuela to

842
00:47:27.920 --> 00:47:32.119
be heard. Wow. The commission concluded that Linda did not

843
00:47:32.360 --> 00:47:36.360
have equal access to justice and she suffered re victimization.

844
00:47:36.840 --> 00:47:40.159
And then this the court elevated her case to the

845
00:47:40.519 --> 00:47:43.039
Inter American Court. Oh. Sorry, so this is a commission,

846
00:47:43.119 --> 00:47:44.920
the commission. Here is the case, and then it goes

847
00:47:44.960 --> 00:47:48.800
to court. Okay, to see if it goes to court. Okay, okay, Yeah,

848
00:47:48.920 --> 00:47:50.840
this is the commission. It was heard by the commission.

849
00:47:51.039 --> 00:47:53.920
They elevated it to the court, the Inner American Court,

850
00:47:54.039 --> 00:47:56.519
and that's why her goal was to take it to court. Yes.

851
00:47:56.960 --> 00:48:01.280
So on February sixth, twenty eighteen, Oh my god, like

852
00:48:01.559 --> 00:48:06.360
this is a whole lifetime after like it's so long decades. Yeah,

853
00:48:06.679 --> 00:48:09.840
Linda sat before the seven judges of the Inner American

854
00:48:09.920 --> 00:48:12.119
Court of Human Rights and she said to them, it

855
00:48:12.239 --> 00:48:14.760
is important that you value my testimony. I come here

856
00:48:14.840 --> 00:48:18.800
now because I trust you and I expect justice and more.

857
00:48:18.840 --> 00:48:21.159
Of her opening statement, my voice is that of many

858
00:48:21.320 --> 00:48:24.679
women in Venezuela and Latin America who have not been

859
00:48:24.760 --> 00:48:27.800
able to report the events of which they have been victims.

860
00:48:27.920 --> 00:48:30.840
I am outraged because it is impossible to access justice

861
00:48:30.920 --> 00:48:33.639
in my country. I was forced to study law to

862
00:48:33.719 --> 00:48:36.519
fight for my cause. It's important that you value my testimony.

863
00:48:36.719 --> 00:48:40.320
The path traveled has not been far from simple or straight.

864
00:48:40.599 --> 00:48:42.760
It was not easy to get here, but I came

865
00:48:42.880 --> 00:48:45.320
because I trust the system. I hope not to receive

866
00:48:45.400 --> 00:48:49.719
the answers that the Venezuelan judiciary gave me, which never

867
00:48:49.920 --> 00:48:53.480
investigated the facts, just because my attacker was the son

868
00:48:53.800 --> 00:48:58.719
of a person with power. Venezuela's legal representative apologized and

869
00:48:58.880 --> 00:49:02.760
acknowledged that le that did not have access to justice

870
00:49:03.039 --> 00:49:07.800
under conditions of equality. The courts ordered are the courts.

871
00:49:07.880 --> 00:49:10.880
The court ordered the State of Venezuela to compensate Linda

872
00:49:11.000 --> 00:49:13.880
Louisa and her family by covering the costs of her

873
00:49:14.039 --> 00:49:18.760
lifelong medical and psychological care good. They also ordered the

874
00:49:18.800 --> 00:49:23.119
State of Venezuela to acknowledge its responsibility publicly and to

875
00:49:23.320 --> 00:49:29.280
establish a national gender violence curriculum named after Linda Loisa.

876
00:49:30.000 --> 00:49:33.519
And this ruling is the first within the inter American

877
00:49:33.679 --> 00:49:36.920
system to classify violence against a woman at the hands

878
00:49:37.000 --> 00:49:41.519
of an individual as torture. Wow. It's also said a

879
00:49:41.719 --> 00:49:46.039
historic president in terms of violence against women and discrimination

880
00:49:46.199 --> 00:49:50.719
they face in the justice system. Yeah. And Linda called

881
00:49:50.800 --> 00:49:54.480
the ruling a triumph of justice only if the State

882
00:49:54.639 --> 00:50:01.440
of Venezuela actually fulfills it. Yeah. And unfortunately, Venezuela does

883
00:50:01.519 --> 00:50:04.239
not have the best record of adhering to these types

884
00:50:04.239 --> 00:50:07.159
of rulings. I tried to search and search, and I

885
00:50:07.199 --> 00:50:10.480
could not find any other information on if they have

886
00:50:10.599 --> 00:50:14.760
actually done this. So I'm sure that if you can't

887
00:50:14.800 --> 00:50:18.000
find it, because they haven't. Right. She has said that

888
00:50:18.280 --> 00:50:21.800
when the State of Venezuela executes the full content of

889
00:50:22.199 --> 00:50:25.400
the sentence, I'll be able to speak about justice. Until then,

890
00:50:25.760 --> 00:50:29.679
impunity persists. Wow. And She also says that she was

891
00:50:29.760 --> 00:50:32.920
encouraged by the Me Too movement and that she holds

892
00:50:32.920 --> 00:50:36.760
her story inspires others to report violence and seek justice.

893
00:50:36.960 --> 00:50:41.480
She continues her work in advocacy for women in Venezuela.

894
00:50:42.320 --> 00:50:44.880
One lawyer who works with her on her case has

895
00:50:44.920 --> 00:50:48.639
said the following about Linda, she has managed to transcend

896
00:50:48.719 --> 00:50:51.599
her own personal story in favor of a collective quest

897
00:50:51.800 --> 00:50:55.760
a well deserved and recognized human rights defender, Linda as

898
00:50:55.760 --> 00:51:00.599
an example of courage, persistence, and resistance. Truly, truly. Yeah,

899
00:51:00.800 --> 00:51:03.159
and of course there's you know, still work left to

900
00:51:03.199 --> 00:51:06.639
be done. Like I said, Venezuela, I can't find information

901
00:51:06.760 --> 00:51:11.119
on whether they've done their fulfilled their sentence. Violence against

902
00:51:11.199 --> 00:51:17.760
women increased after COVID worldwide, but especially in Latin America

903
00:51:17.880 --> 00:51:22.960
and of course Venezuela. And this statistic is like, oh

904
00:51:23.039 --> 00:51:24.679
my god, almost ten years old. Now I can't find

905
00:51:24.679 --> 00:51:27.440
it a new one specifically for Venezuela. But from the

906
00:51:27.800 --> 00:51:31.960
seventy thousand, seven hundred and sixty three complaints of violence

907
00:51:32.000 --> 00:51:35.880
against women, only zero point seven percent make it a trial.

908
00:51:36.119 --> 00:51:39.079
Can you say the percentage again? Zero point seven Oh

909
00:51:39.159 --> 00:51:44.480
my god out of basically seventy thousand. Wow. And you

910
00:51:44.559 --> 00:51:46.960
know that's that they make it a trial. And if

911
00:51:47.000 --> 00:51:48.880
they make it's a trial and face the same kind

912
00:51:48.880 --> 00:51:51.440
of fucking trial that Linda did, then like what does

913
00:51:51.480 --> 00:51:55.360
that tell you? That's just awful? Yeah, yeah, this whole

914
00:51:55.360 --> 00:51:58.039
thing was awful. That's what I'm sorry to everyone. But

915
00:51:58.159 --> 00:52:00.800
I felt that her story was very important, especially because

916
00:52:00.800 --> 00:52:03.199
we were talking about you know, we're sharing fund spooky

917
00:52:03.280 --> 00:52:06.000
legends from Venezuela. No no, and you know what, it's

918
00:52:06.000 --> 00:52:10.159
such an important story to tell always. But I mean,

919
00:52:10.280 --> 00:52:14.519
not that violence against women ever gets I don't know.

920
00:52:14.559 --> 00:52:17.039
I feel like it has to get better. But recently

921
00:52:17.199 --> 00:52:22.679
we've heard headlines of violence against women like at our

922
00:52:22.760 --> 00:52:25.079
nationally and here in the United States. Actually I don't

923
00:52:25.079 --> 00:52:27.360
remember anything from the United States. But there was that

924
00:52:27.920 --> 00:52:29.840
man or do you know what I'm talking about, that

925
00:52:30.599 --> 00:52:34.360
man who was basically drugging his wife and exploiting her

926
00:52:34.679 --> 00:52:38.639
to any man that wanted to rape her. Oh my god.

927
00:52:38.760 --> 00:52:41.559
Where was this. I believe this was in France and

928
00:52:41.679 --> 00:52:44.360
she testified against him in court. Such a brave woman

929
00:52:44.519 --> 00:52:48.639
to do that. They were married for years, decades, Oh

930
00:52:48.719 --> 00:52:52.920
my god. Yeah, so just awful, awful stuff. And then

931
00:52:53.119 --> 00:52:57.239
the Olympic runner who was set on fire by her

932
00:52:57.719 --> 00:53:02.719
partner husband in front of their kids. Also in Beaverit

933
00:53:02.800 --> 00:53:06.039
in Oregon. A nurse, twenty seven year old nurse. She

934
00:53:06.199 --> 00:53:09.440
had just gotten married late August. She was waiting on

935
00:53:09.599 --> 00:53:12.519
housing to move to her husband move finally moved with

936
00:53:12.559 --> 00:53:15.159
her husband to Fort Lewis. She was waiting on that

937
00:53:15.280 --> 00:53:17.239
to finally be able to go move with her husband.

938
00:53:17.360 --> 00:53:20.280
She was killed by her neighbor, a man. She was

939
00:53:20.320 --> 00:53:23.880
a nurse. Wow, it just happened. But yeah, I mean,

940
00:53:24.000 --> 00:53:27.559
and so so often, like violence against women never is

941
00:53:27.639 --> 00:53:32.679
never depicted or categorized as like hate crime, right or

942
00:53:33.039 --> 00:53:37.280
as you know, like a hate based violence or anything

943
00:53:37.360 --> 00:53:39.639
like that. But men who do this kind of stuff

944
00:53:39.679 --> 00:53:44.599
to women, they hate women, So like it should be right,

945
00:53:44.719 --> 00:53:48.039
it should be oh, like you sent in our group chat,

946
00:53:48.280 --> 00:53:52.239
another Danity Caine member came forward to press charges against

947
00:53:52.320 --> 00:53:56.280
p Diddy. Yeah done, Richard that's her name. Yeah, I mean,

948
00:53:56.360 --> 00:54:00.800
like violence against women is so normalized, yeah, joked about,

949
00:54:01.199 --> 00:54:04.280
and it's serious. It's a very serious, torrible thing that

950
00:54:04.480 --> 00:54:07.360
like no one should have to face. Yeah. So yeah,

951
00:54:07.719 --> 00:54:09.360
that's why I wanted to share her story and to

952
00:54:09.440 --> 00:54:13.199
share that she's still she's still working for protecting women

953
00:54:13.280 --> 00:54:16.079
and their rights in Venezuela, which is like amazing ever

954
00:54:16.079 --> 00:54:19.280
her to be able to do after everything she went through. Yeah. Well, yeah,

955
00:54:19.440 --> 00:54:22.559
that brings us to the end of the episode. We'll

956
00:54:22.599 --> 00:54:30.159
take a quick ad break here and anyway, yes, speaky recommendations.

957
00:54:30.719 --> 00:54:32.800
I'll go first, because Carmen's taking a giant sip of water.

958
00:54:32.960 --> 00:54:35.320
Whatever you're drinking. What are you drinking? Actually it's water

959
00:54:35.519 --> 00:54:39.599
water water in here. Okay, I finally, and I feel

960
00:54:39.599 --> 00:54:41.519
like I'm so late to this, but I finally watched

961
00:54:41.519 --> 00:54:46.239
Abigail Melissa Burra's new movie, Newish movie. Oh I've never

962
00:54:46.280 --> 00:54:49.639
even heard of that. Oh my god, where have you been? Anyway?

963
00:54:49.800 --> 00:54:52.039
It was so fun. It was such a fun watch.

964
00:54:52.280 --> 00:54:55.159
I think everyone knows by now, but you know, skip

965
00:54:55.159 --> 00:54:57.039
ahead of the seconds if you don't want spoilers. But

966
00:54:57.280 --> 00:55:00.880
it is a vampire movie. Oh and it's so funny

967
00:55:00.880 --> 00:55:02.840
because they know they know what they're doing. It's so

968
00:55:02.920 --> 00:55:05.199
funny because there's a part where they're like, Okay, well

969
00:55:05.239 --> 00:55:07.119
what do we know about vampires? And I just love

970
00:55:07.199 --> 00:55:09.760
when movies are so self aware. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,

971
00:55:10.159 --> 00:55:12.760
I see my favorite thing and that's my favorite thing ever.

972
00:55:13.440 --> 00:55:16.159
But also there has it has its scary moments, it's

973
00:55:16.199 --> 00:55:20.239
never told. The parts where they're like fighting the vampire amazing.

974
00:55:20.679 --> 00:55:25.840
Also so the cast top notch, Melissa Burra, love her,

975
00:55:26.199 --> 00:55:29.440
she's amazing. It also has this white guy that I

976
00:55:29.599 --> 00:55:31.880
just love and I don't know if you even wonder

977
00:55:32.000 --> 00:55:34.400
it is me? What is he been on? Of course

978
00:55:34.440 --> 00:55:37.119
I can't remember his name. Okay, so Dan Stevens is

979
00:55:37.159 --> 00:55:41.079
his name, and so he's been on Legion is a show.

980
00:55:41.119 --> 00:55:42.800
I don't think you watched them, but he was on

981
00:55:43.400 --> 00:55:46.079
Huh can you see me a picture? Oh? Yeah, yeah,

982
00:55:46.519 --> 00:55:50.239
but yeah Legion? What else? I mean, that's the main

983
00:55:50.280 --> 00:55:52.000
thing I knew him for, but a lot of movies

984
00:55:52.199 --> 00:55:54.920
and shows. Oh, I've never seen him before. Oh okay,

985
00:55:55.000 --> 00:55:56.679
Well I love this man. So he was a fun

986
00:55:56.719 --> 00:55:59.280
addition to the movie. He's also like a perfect villain.

987
00:55:59.599 --> 00:56:03.639
And okay, so he's a vampire. Just he I won't

988
00:56:03.639 --> 00:56:07.719
say more than that, but yeah, very fun movie. Also,

989
00:56:09.159 --> 00:56:13.360
the guy from Breaking Bad, the one just no, no no,

990
00:56:14.559 --> 00:56:16.679
he's also a bad guy and Breaking Bad I only

991
00:56:16.760 --> 00:56:19.960
know so many I didn't like watching that show. I

992
00:56:20.039 --> 00:56:21.400
mean I tried to get into that show and I

993
00:56:21.440 --> 00:56:25.199
didn't like it. Giancarlo Esposito Oh okay, I know I've

994
00:56:25.280 --> 00:56:28.320
seen him before. He's always a villain. He's all, yeah, exactly.

995
00:56:28.760 --> 00:56:30.880
I just you know, the perfect perfect cast scene for

996
00:56:30.960 --> 00:56:34.199
this movie. Rip Angus Kloud. He's in it. He's a

997
00:56:34.280 --> 00:56:37.039
kid from Euphoria who was from Oakland. He's in it.

998
00:56:37.760 --> 00:56:39.280
So yeah, I mean it was just it's a very

999
00:56:39.360 --> 00:56:42.239
fun movie. I definitely recommend it. I mean, it's honestly

1000
00:56:42.400 --> 00:56:44.559
like perfect for his book season and if you know,

1001
00:56:44.679 --> 00:56:47.239
I feel like vampires, so it was fun. I highly

1002
00:56:47.320 --> 00:56:51.679
recommend it. Okay, Okay, I think Paul would watch that

1003
00:56:51.840 --> 00:56:54.800
probably because like when it's like vampire stuff, like I

1004
00:56:54.840 --> 00:56:57.159
think it's like mostly like ghots he doesn't watch and

1005
00:56:57.239 --> 00:56:59.880
slasher movies. He didn't like those either. Okay, you should

1006
00:57:00.000 --> 00:57:03.079
watch it then? Cool? Cool? Is that it? That's my

1007
00:57:03.199 --> 00:57:06.760
spooky recommendation. Yeah, okay, So I've been listening to a

1008
00:57:06.800 --> 00:57:10.679
lot of audiobooks. The last spooky one that I finished

1009
00:57:10.880 --> 00:57:12.480
let me just stumble check because I feel like I

1010
00:57:12.559 --> 00:57:15.679
finished another one in between. You need to start reading,

1011
00:57:16.239 --> 00:57:18.159
and that's what you need to do. I told you

1012
00:57:18.280 --> 00:57:22.639
on chapter seven that I'm finishing Oh you already started. Yeah. Anyway,

1013
00:57:22.800 --> 00:57:25.599
I told you that I'm finishing Love in the Time

1014
00:57:25.679 --> 00:57:30.000
of Cholera that I hate. I listened to this book

1015
00:57:30.079 --> 00:57:32.480
called Mother Thing. Have you heard of it? I have

1016
00:57:32.719 --> 00:57:35.360
heard of it. I've seen the cover. It looks oh yeah,

1017
00:57:35.360 --> 00:57:37.679
I said this thing. Yeah, but before that, I had

1018
00:57:37.679 --> 00:57:40.119
to come across the two. I first saw it like

1019
00:57:40.199 --> 00:57:43.280
a while ago, and what caught my eye was the cover.

1020
00:57:43.480 --> 00:57:46.079
I do judge books by their cover. I mean, that's

1021
00:57:46.079 --> 00:57:50.199
why they're there, right to judge them. And it caught

1022
00:57:50.239 --> 00:57:53.800
my eye because it's so spooky looking and it was interesting.

1023
00:57:54.079 --> 00:57:56.760
So there's like a feel like a category of it's

1024
00:57:56.800 --> 00:57:59.079
not really a genre, but there's like a category of

1025
00:57:59.559 --> 00:58:03.159
books are like unhinged woman loses it right, and this

1026
00:58:03.280 --> 00:58:07.239
really fits in there. Okay, I love those books me too.

1027
00:58:07.400 --> 00:58:09.440
I love an unhinged woman and loses it, And it's

1028
00:58:09.480 --> 00:58:12.920
a variety of unhinged woman loses it right, like I

1029
00:58:13.039 --> 00:58:16.320
feel like was the last one. I the eyes of

1030
00:58:16.400 --> 00:58:19.199
the good part, our best part probably is right good part,

1031
00:58:19.239 --> 00:58:23.559
the best part the unhinged woman loses it, goes on

1032
00:58:23.639 --> 00:58:27.039
a killing spree, becomes a serial killer, gone girl. I

1033
00:58:27.039 --> 00:58:31.199
would put that under unhinged woman loses it and gets

1034
00:58:31.280 --> 00:58:35.280
the worst kind of revenge. So yeah, I would classify

1035
00:58:35.400 --> 00:58:39.920
this under that, although she loses it in a different

1036
00:58:39.960 --> 00:58:45.519
way and it's very like rambling like her mind. But

1037
00:58:45.679 --> 00:58:47.880
I liked it. I liked it. Okay, let me read

1038
00:58:47.960 --> 00:58:51.800
the synopsis in case people want to listen to it. So,

1039
00:58:51.960 --> 00:58:55.440
when Ralph and Abby Lamb move in with Ralph's mother Laura,

1040
00:58:55.719 --> 00:58:57.719
Abby hopes it's just what she and her mother in

1041
00:58:57.840 --> 00:59:01.239
law need to finally connect if they're a traumatic childhood.

1042
00:59:01.280 --> 00:59:04.559
Abby is desperate for a mother figure, especially now that

1043
00:59:04.679 --> 00:59:07.920
she and Ralph are trying to become parents themselves. Abby

1044
00:59:08.079 --> 00:59:10.519
just has so much love to give to Ralph, to Laura,

1045
00:59:10.960 --> 00:59:13.800
and to Missus Bondi, her favorite resident at the long

1046
00:59:13.960 --> 00:59:16.960
term care home where she works. But Laura isn't interested

1047
00:59:17.039 --> 00:59:20.639
in bonding with her daughter in law. She's venomous and cruel,

1048
00:59:20.840 --> 00:59:25.000
especially to Abby, and life with her is hellish ooh.

1049
00:59:25.559 --> 00:59:28.400
When Laura takes her own life, her ghost haunts Abby

1050
00:59:28.480 --> 00:59:32.679
and Ralph in very different ways. Ralph is plunged into depression,

1051
00:59:32.880 --> 00:59:35.880
and Abby is terrorized by a forced intent on destroying

1052
00:59:36.000 --> 00:59:39.519
everything she loves. To make matters worse, Missus Bondie's daughter

1053
00:59:39.639 --> 00:59:42.599
is threatening to move Missus Bondi from the home, leaving

1054
00:59:42.719 --> 00:59:46.280
Abby totally alone. With everything on the line, Abby comes

1055
00:59:46.480 --> 00:59:48.400
up with a chilling plan that will allow her to

1056
00:59:48.480 --> 00:59:51.719
keep Missus Bondi, rescue Ralph from his tortured mind, and

1057
00:59:51.880 --> 00:59:54.719
break Laura's hold on the family for good. All it

1058
00:59:54.840 --> 00:59:58.280
requires is a little ingenuity, a lot of determination, and

1059
00:59:58.360 --> 01:00:03.000
a unique recipe for Chicken a La King interesting. So yeah,

1060
01:00:03.639 --> 01:00:06.480
I could see people not liking it because of how

1061
01:00:06.599 --> 01:00:09.079
much she rambles and how much like her thoughts in

1062
01:00:09.159 --> 01:00:11.920
her seed with like the story. I guess, oh, but

1063
01:00:12.039 --> 01:00:15.679
I like that kind of stuff sometimes sometimes yeah, when

1064
01:00:15.719 --> 01:00:17.599
it's like interesting, usually when it's a man, I'm not

1065
01:00:17.679 --> 01:00:24.079
interested now, And another thing like you don't know what

1066
01:00:24.719 --> 01:00:29.440
is real and what's not, like if she really yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.

1067
01:00:29.920 --> 01:00:32.199
Ain is like kind of like confusing because you're like,

1068
01:00:32.360 --> 01:00:34.400
did she do that or not? But I won't say

1069
01:00:34.480 --> 01:00:37.159
more than this is real. Yeah, yeah, so I don't know.

1070
01:00:37.280 --> 01:00:41.119
I liked it. And then I also read or listened

1071
01:00:41.159 --> 01:00:45.079
to What Moves the Dead and What Feasts at Night,

1072
01:00:45.519 --> 01:00:47.719
so it's like a series and I don't know there's more,

1073
01:00:47.760 --> 01:00:50.079
but this is all there was on Libby and these

1074
01:00:50.119 --> 01:00:52.840
were they were okay. I liked What Feasts at Night.

1075
01:00:52.960 --> 01:00:55.760
Better read the snops of that in case people want

1076
01:00:55.880 --> 01:00:58.519
to listen to that or read it. Also, what comment

1077
01:00:58.639 --> 01:01:00.519
I was the cover? Did I say it's by T.

1078
01:01:00.679 --> 01:01:03.800
Kingfisher yet? No? Okay? That name of the author also

1079
01:01:03.880 --> 01:01:05.679
called my eye. I was like, what a cool name?

1080
01:01:05.880 --> 01:01:08.719
So it says from T. King Fisher, the award winning

1081
01:01:08.800 --> 01:01:11.360
author of The Twisted One. Oh they have other books.

1082
01:01:11.480 --> 01:01:14.719
Comes What Moves the Dead, a gripping an atmospheric retelling

1083
01:01:14.880 --> 01:01:17.679
of Edgar Allen Poet's classic The Fall of the House

1084
01:01:17.719 --> 01:01:20.599
of Usher. So that's also what caught my eye. Okay, yeah,

1085
01:01:20.880 --> 01:01:22.960
it's already caught my eye. So it was good. I

1086
01:01:22.960 --> 01:01:24.440
don't want to say it was bad or anything. So

1087
01:01:24.599 --> 01:01:28.800
when Alex Easton, a retired soldier, receives word that their

1088
01:01:28.920 --> 01:01:32.559
childhood friend Madeleine Usher is dying, they raise to the

1089
01:01:32.559 --> 01:01:37.199
ancestral home of the Ushers in the remote countryside of Ruretania.

1090
01:01:37.519 --> 01:01:40.079
When they find there was a nightmare of fungal growths

1091
01:01:40.119 --> 01:01:44.079
and possessed wildlife surrounding a dark pulsine lake. What they

1092
01:01:44.119 --> 01:01:46.360
find out when they find me bad. I love fungus

1093
01:01:46.599 --> 01:01:49.280
in books, Yes, so I like that part too. Madeleine

1094
01:01:49.360 --> 01:01:52.119
sleepbox and speaks, speaks in strange voices at night, and

1095
01:01:52.239 --> 01:01:55.880
her brother Roderick, is consumed with the mysterious malady of

1096
01:01:56.079 --> 01:02:01.199
the nerves. Aided by a redoubtable British mycologist and a

1097
01:02:01.280 --> 01:02:04.960
baffled American doctor, Alex must unravel the secret of the

1098
01:02:05.039 --> 01:02:07.880
House of Usher before it consumes them all. So I

1099
01:02:07.960 --> 01:02:11.039
guess it was good there, But there was a lot

1100
01:02:11.119 --> 01:02:13.599
of like I guess, like world building because it is

1101
01:02:13.719 --> 01:02:16.400
a series and so a lot of like background and

1102
01:02:16.480 --> 01:02:19.760
context on the main character is provided, which is fine,

1103
01:02:19.800 --> 01:02:23.440
it's necessary. But things really picked up at the end

1104
01:02:24.199 --> 01:02:27.199
and it was wild. So I really liked it once

1105
01:02:27.320 --> 01:02:31.280
things got up. Yeah, And okay, second one is what

1106
01:02:31.480 --> 01:02:34.960
Feasts that Night, So then this one is about retired

1107
01:02:35.000 --> 01:02:39.000
soldier Alex Easton returns in a horrifying new adventure. After

1108
01:02:39.159 --> 01:02:43.280
their terrifying ordeal at the usher Manor, Alex Easton feels

1109
01:02:43.400 --> 01:02:46.159
as if they just survived another war. All they crave

1110
01:02:46.320 --> 01:02:49.360
is rest, routine and sunshine, but instead, as a favorite

1111
01:02:49.360 --> 01:02:51.800
to Angus and Miss Potter and their characters from the

1112
01:02:51.800 --> 01:02:55.239
first one, they find themselves heading to their family hunting

1113
01:02:55.320 --> 01:02:59.599
lodge deep in the cold, damp forests of their home country, Galacia.

1114
01:03:00.079 --> 01:03:02.880
Theory one can find relaxation and even the coldest and

1115
01:03:03.000 --> 01:03:05.920
dampest of Galician atoms. But when Easton arrives, they find

1116
01:03:05.920 --> 01:03:08.880
the caretaker dead, the lodge in disarray, and the grounds

1117
01:03:08.960 --> 01:03:13.039
troubled by strange, uncanny silence. The villagers whisper that a

1118
01:03:13.079 --> 01:03:17.280
breaststealing monster from folklore has taken up residence in Easton's home.

1119
01:03:17.480 --> 01:03:20.199
Easton knows better than to put too much stock in

1120
01:03:20.480 --> 01:03:23.039
local superstitions, but they can tell that something is not

1121
01:03:23.199 --> 01:03:25.800
quite right in their home or in their dreams. So

1122
01:03:26.440 --> 01:03:28.599
I think I like this one better because of the

1123
01:03:29.320 --> 01:03:34.159
folklore and what the spookiness I guess was like based on.

1124
01:03:34.440 --> 01:03:36.880
So okay, but I mean, you know, we love a

1125
01:03:36.920 --> 01:03:42.679
fungy story, we love a folklore haunting. Also, the main

1126
01:03:42.800 --> 01:03:47.000
character is what's called in you know that that series,

1127
01:03:47.039 --> 01:03:52.239
a sworn soldier, so like a trans person. I guess

1128
01:03:52.519 --> 01:03:54.320
they explain it in the book better than I'll be

1129
01:03:54.360 --> 01:03:56.639
able to explain it. So I'll just you know, if

1130
01:03:56.719 --> 01:03:59.519
you if you people want to read more like books

1131
01:03:59.639 --> 01:04:04.599
about LGBTQ characters queer characters, then this would be a

1132
01:04:04.679 --> 01:04:08.559
good one to check out. Cool okay, okay, okay, all right, well,

1133
01:04:08.800 --> 01:04:11.000
I think now we have finally arrived at the end

1134
01:04:11.039 --> 01:04:13.920
of the episode. One of these days we'll record another

1135
01:04:14.039 --> 01:04:18.239
episode for Patreon. I am currently making stickers all spooky

1136
01:04:18.280 --> 01:04:22.360
deaned pumpkins and stuff. So yeah, if you want an

1137
01:04:22.440 --> 01:04:25.639
exclusive giant keychain, that's just Spooky Tells and it's all

1138
01:04:25.719 --> 01:04:28.199
fuzzy and cute. You can join the eight dollar tier

1139
01:04:28.440 --> 01:04:31.159
if you want access to the bonus episodes where usually

1140
01:04:31.239 --> 01:04:33.719
we read Reddit stories or paranormal news to each other.

1141
01:04:34.159 --> 01:04:37.079
I would say access to the episodes early, but it's

1142
01:04:37.199 --> 01:04:40.880
usually like the night before. It's not very early, but

1143
01:04:41.000 --> 01:04:43.000
it is at free. That's the one dollar tier, and

1144
01:04:43.039 --> 01:04:45.519
you got to shout out every episode. So yeah, if

1145
01:04:45.559 --> 01:04:47.599
you're interested in that, go ahead and do that. Also

1146
01:04:47.679 --> 01:04:49.480
shout out to the people that have been buying merch

1147
01:04:49.599 --> 01:04:51.960
and got emails when people do and that's very exciting.

1148
01:04:52.400 --> 01:04:55.719
Someone just bought a beanie. Thank you nice? All right,

1149
01:04:55.840 --> 01:04:59.440
I don't know, um gosh, I can't remember. If you

1150
01:04:59.480 --> 01:05:03.960
see a ball fire, run, Candela's coming after you. Yeah?

1151
01:05:04.119 --> 01:05:06.480
Is that her name? Yeah? Okay, say Spooki and we'll

1152
01:05:06.519 --> 01:05:09.880
catch everyone next time. Bye. A Book Tells is hosted

1153
01:05:09.920 --> 01:05:13.360
by Christina and Carmen, produced and edited by Christina, researched

1154
01:05:13.400 --> 01:05:16.400

01:05:25.719 --> 01:05:27.920
