Come see Carmen and Cristina: The Cucuy Is Going to Get You Nov 1st, 2025 event in Yakima, WA

In 1923 Soacha, Colombia, La Casona—an opulent mansion perched above the legendary Salto del Tequendama waterfall—was once home to Antonia and her family, who settle in despite their constant nightmares and the house’s malevolent spirit. But tragedy strikes when Antonia’s mother takes a fatal fall into El Salto and her father, consumed by grief, attempts to burn the house down with Antonia still inside.

Three years later, haunted by disturbing dreams and cryptic journal entries from her late mother, Antonia is drawn back to her childhood home when it is converted into a luxurious hotel. As Antonia confronts her fragmented memories and the dark history of the estate, she wrestles with unsettling questions she can no longer ignore: Was her mother’s death by her own hands, or was it by someone else’s?

In this book club episode, Carmen and Cristina recap the book, give their thoughts throughout and then go through discussion questions.

1
00:00:04.799 --> 00:00:08.919
Hello, Hello, this is Christina and Carmen, and this is

2
00:00:08.960 --> 00:00:11.119
another episode of a Booky tell Us, the podcast for

3
00:00:11.160 --> 00:00:15.439
all things spooky, true crime, hunter Places, but also sometimes

4
00:00:15.839 --> 00:00:19.000
book Club. Yes, it's a book Club episode. Book Club,

5
00:00:19.039 --> 00:00:25.000
book Club, book Club and yeah Bochica, it's our Bochika

6
00:00:25.079 --> 00:00:30.399
book Club episode. I well, we'll get into it, well

7
00:00:30.559 --> 00:00:34.920
into it. And as we say in every book Club episode,

8
00:00:35.000 --> 00:00:37.960
the way they go, we start off with a little summarye.

9
00:00:38.479 --> 00:00:40.759
We say who we thought we would cast, who we

10
00:00:40.799 --> 00:00:42.960
would cast in a movie of this book. I don't

11
00:00:42.960 --> 00:00:45.560
know if you have any for this book. You know,

12
00:00:46.439 --> 00:00:49.039
it only comes to mind when I feel strongly about

13
00:00:49.039 --> 00:00:54.000
a book. Okay, okay, yeah, same, I didn't think of anybody. Yeah, yeah,

14
00:00:54.000 --> 00:00:56.600
So yeah we do that, not that summary, that's just

15
00:00:56.640 --> 00:01:01.079
the back of the book. We do sometimes the cast,

16
00:01:01.359 --> 00:01:03.759
and then we just get into a very long recap

17
00:01:03.880 --> 00:01:05.920
of the book, and then at the end we do

18
00:01:05.959 --> 00:01:10.439
the discussion questions and then a rating. So I will

19
00:01:10.439 --> 00:01:15.200
have time steps. But basically that summary, that's the only

20
00:01:15.439 --> 00:01:17.680
spoiler free and it's just from the book.

21
00:01:18.000 --> 00:01:18.280
The back.

22
00:01:18.560 --> 00:01:20.400
Yeah, it's the back of the book. So and the

23
00:01:20.439 --> 00:01:23.560
recap is a recap of the book. Yeah, thoughts and

24
00:01:23.599 --> 00:01:26.519
started in. But we also get into our thoughts, questions,

25
00:01:26.560 --> 00:01:30.400
discussion questions exactly, and that is how the book club

26
00:01:30.439 --> 00:01:34.159
episodes go. If you want to quote join the book club,

27
00:01:34.239 --> 00:01:36.599
it's not really joining. It's like you get the questions

28
00:01:36.640 --> 00:01:38.280
when you send them out, and you can answer them

29
00:01:38.280 --> 00:01:41.920
if you want, and then you get the notification of

30
00:01:41.959 --> 00:01:44.439
what book we're reading next. That way, you finish it

31
00:01:44.480 --> 00:01:46.000
by the time we finish it, and then you can

32
00:01:46.040 --> 00:01:50.560
send us your thoughts or comments answers to the questions

33
00:01:50.719 --> 00:01:51.319
if you want.

34
00:01:51.879 --> 00:01:55.319
And we love getting We do love getting them.

35
00:01:55.640 --> 00:01:58.519
Yeah, I will say the only times we get a

36
00:01:58.560 --> 00:02:03.000
lot of answers is usually when it's Isbarcia. Yeah, but

37
00:02:03.079 --> 00:02:06.799
yeah that did get answers too though, yeah yeah, yeah,

38
00:02:06.840 --> 00:02:10.960
So yeah, that's how these work. One day, maybe you know,

39
00:02:11.120 --> 00:02:14.840
we'll try and do a live recording episode like online live.

40
00:02:15.159 --> 00:02:18.159
That would be fun, yeah, and where people can actually discuss.

41
00:02:18.199 --> 00:02:20.360
But again I stuck at like, I don't know how

42
00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:24.080
to live straight. I can only do a podcast and

43
00:02:24.120 --> 00:02:27.159
TikTok and one weakness, it is my one weakness. I

44
00:02:27.199 --> 00:02:28.680
don't know how to do that. I don't know how

45
00:02:28.719 --> 00:02:31.039
to where so I guess like people do it on zoom,

46
00:02:31.039 --> 00:02:34.159
but you gotta pay for that, and yeah, I don't know.

47
00:02:34.199 --> 00:02:38.759
That's the other weakness, you know. Yeah, so yeah, all

48
00:02:38.840 --> 00:02:39.840
right the summary?

49
00:02:39.840 --> 00:02:40.520
Are you ready?

50
00:02:40.800 --> 00:02:46.599
I am, Okay, let's do this. So this book Club

51
00:02:46.639 --> 00:02:52.800
episode is about Bochica by Carolina Flores Cerchiaro And here

52
00:02:52.879 --> 00:02:56.919
goes the summary. In nineteen twenty three, Soacha Columbia La Casona,

53
00:02:57.319 --> 00:03:01.879
an upland mansion approached above the legendary Santo. The Tekendama

54
00:03:01.960 --> 00:03:04.800
Waterfall was once home to Antonia and her family, who

55
00:03:04.840 --> 00:03:08.360
settle in despite their constant nightmares and the house's malevolent spirit.

56
00:03:09.039 --> 00:03:12.319
The tragedy strikes when Antonia's mother takes a faddle fall

57
00:03:12.319 --> 00:03:15.719
into Xanto, and her father, consumed by grief, attempts to

58
00:03:15.719 --> 00:03:19.599
burn the house down, with Antonia st inside. Three years later,

59
00:03:19.680 --> 00:03:23.199
haunted by disturbing dreams and cryptic journal entries from her

60
00:03:23.280 --> 00:03:26.479
late mother, Antonia is drawn back to her childhood home

61
00:03:26.599 --> 00:03:30.120
when it is converted into a luxurious hotel. As Antonia

62
00:03:30.159 --> 00:03:33.439
confronts her fragmented memories and the dark history of the estate,

63
00:03:33.560 --> 00:03:36.520
she wrestles with unsettling questions she can no longer ignore.

64
00:03:37.280 --> 00:03:39.120
Was her mother's death by her own hands or was

65
00:03:39.159 --> 00:03:42.240
it by someone else's. In a riveting quest for answers,

66
00:03:42.240 --> 00:03:44.800
Antonia must navigate the shadows of La Casna as she

67
00:03:44.919 --> 00:03:48.919
unearthed its darkest secret in this delicately told story of

68
00:03:48.960 --> 00:03:51.319
how the past always finds us and how people can

69
00:03:51.360 --> 00:03:55.360
be haunted just as surely as places can. Yes, thank

70
00:03:55.400 --> 00:03:58.080
you for reading that. And I for one was very

71
00:03:58.080 --> 00:04:01.319
excited for this book because it's takes place in a

72
00:04:01.360 --> 00:04:04.879
place we have covered on the podcast. Yeah, that's one

73
00:04:04.879 --> 00:04:07.360
reason we picked it. Yeah, it was pre Carmen. It

74
00:04:07.400 --> 00:04:09.960
was just me and MJ back then. It was all

75
00:04:10.000 --> 00:04:13.039
the way back in episode fifty three. It's titled Thickened

76
00:04:13.039 --> 00:04:16.879
on My Falls and the Joelma Building a Whelma Building.

77
00:04:17.920 --> 00:04:20.199
So yeah, if anyone wants to listen to the story

78
00:04:20.279 --> 00:04:26.160
behind this haunted place, that episode is there. And yeah,

79
00:04:26.160 --> 00:04:29.120
that's why I was very excited to check this book out.

80
00:04:29.160 --> 00:04:33.399
And honestly, the setting is everything, yeah in this book.

81
00:04:35.120 --> 00:04:37.560
So let's get and this is now recap moment. This

82
00:04:37.639 --> 00:04:43.800
is a spoiler's galore. We're recapping the book. So or sorry,

83
00:04:43.839 --> 00:04:44.759
No you didn't cast.

84
00:04:44.600 --> 00:04:48.199
Anyone, right, No, I didn't. I didn't know you neither, right.

85
00:04:48.120 --> 00:04:52.319
Now no, no one comes to mind. I'm sorry, just

86
00:04:52.360 --> 00:04:53.360
blank faces.

87
00:04:53.839 --> 00:04:59.759
Yeah, okay.

88
00:04:59.839 --> 00:05:02.759
So, so we started off with Antonia teaching a class

89
00:05:02.800 --> 00:05:05.720
of girls in the all girls Catholic school, and she's

90
00:05:05.720 --> 00:05:08.439
talking about exorcisms for some reason, and I guess it

91
00:05:08.519 --> 00:05:11.240
was part of the curriculum because yeah, straight up talking

92
00:05:11.279 --> 00:05:14.399
about it. I remember learning about this in Catechism. Then

93
00:05:14.639 --> 00:05:17.160
that would have caught my eye. Well, yeah, this is

94
00:05:17.240 --> 00:05:20.560
Catholic school, so it's deeper than just Catechism, right, I

95
00:05:20.560 --> 00:05:25.560
guess they really get into everything. Yeah, possessions included, possessions included.

96
00:05:26.560 --> 00:05:28.839
And so you know, in the middle of this lecture,

97
00:05:28.879 --> 00:05:31.279
I guess she starts thinking to herself, while these girls

98
00:05:31.480 --> 00:05:36.120
are all doomed to a shitty life, yeah, because they

99
00:05:36.160 --> 00:05:39.160
are girls in a Catholic school in its nineteen thirties.

100
00:05:39.680 --> 00:05:45.000
Our girl, Antonia is a feminist. Yes, diehard feminists to

101
00:05:45.079 --> 00:05:50.439
a fault and opskin. Well, maybe one can say she's

102
00:05:50.480 --> 00:05:53.160
ahead of her time for sure, Yeah, because this is

103
00:05:53.199 --> 00:05:57.079
the nineteen thirties, not you know, present time. Feminists have

104
00:05:57.079 --> 00:06:00.160
always been around. No, no, no, that's true, that is

105
00:06:00.240 --> 00:06:10.240
very true. But but she felt like not yet, oh

106
00:06:10.279 --> 00:06:12.639
the whole No, okay, we'll get into it. The whole

107
00:06:12.639 --> 00:06:14.639
book didn't feel like it was in nineteen thirties to me.

108
00:06:14.639 --> 00:06:17.399
I'm sorry it didn't. It could have been said today

109
00:06:17.560 --> 00:06:22.720
and I wouldn't have known the difference. So yeah, anyway,

110
00:06:23.680 --> 00:06:25.879
so yeah, right after bat, she's like, man, these girls

111
00:06:25.879 --> 00:06:27.839
are all doomed to a shitty fucking life.

112
00:06:28.319 --> 00:06:29.879
Poor them. Oooh hoo.

113
00:06:30.600 --> 00:06:34.639
And then one girl asks, mister Roubiano, how do we know?

114
00:06:36.079 --> 00:06:40.920
How do we know when someone is possessed by the

115
00:06:40.920 --> 00:06:43.360
The girl can't even finish the sentence, but by the devil,

116
00:06:43.920 --> 00:06:47.800
And I was like, oh, you, poor girl, you can't

117
00:06:47.800 --> 00:06:48.720
even say the devil.

118
00:06:48.759 --> 00:06:49.759
You fucking lose her.

119
00:06:49.920 --> 00:06:53.439
No, dumb bitch was a little word.

120
00:06:54.040 --> 00:06:55.560
She didn't actually say that, No.

121
00:06:55.519 --> 00:06:58.040
I'm exaggerating, but she is like, she can't even finish

122
00:06:58.079 --> 00:07:01.279
the sentence because she's so afraid. So then Antonia gives

123
00:07:01.279 --> 00:07:05.040
them the classic exorcism signs, but not before telling them

124
00:07:05.199 --> 00:07:07.759
that most possessions are not real, which is true.

125
00:07:07.879 --> 00:07:09.920
It is true. She's right about that. She's right.

126
00:07:10.240 --> 00:07:13.680
They have to be medically ruled out. Those are Vatican rules.

127
00:07:14.399 --> 00:07:16.600
And the girl asks again, like, but how do we know?

128
00:07:16.680 --> 00:07:21.000
And she gives them more classic signs streaking, groaning, uttering,

129
00:07:21.040 --> 00:07:26.600
disconnected or strange pattern of speech, having answers to questions

130
00:07:26.680 --> 00:07:29.519
that they couldn't possibly know the answer to, and then

131
00:07:29.720 --> 00:07:30.839
her mind draws off again.

132
00:07:31.879 --> 00:07:32.639
She does that a lot.

133
00:07:34.560 --> 00:07:37.959
I'm sorry she does.

134
00:07:39.160 --> 00:07:43.040
No, no, but yeah, like she really does, she really does.

135
00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:45.639
Yeah, So her mind trails to a time her dad

136
00:07:45.800 --> 00:07:48.160
was apparently bound to a chair in a dark room

137
00:07:49.120 --> 00:07:53.120
with Latin chants from a bad Juan. There's nuns around,

138
00:07:53.160 --> 00:07:55.639
and there's like blood flowing flowing from.

139
00:07:55.480 --> 00:07:56.439
Her dad's eyes.

140
00:07:56.639 --> 00:07:59.759
I'm completely maulud about this, okay, because then my next

141
00:08:00.199 --> 00:08:03.399
is like, this is never addressed again, not really, no

142
00:08:03.680 --> 00:08:07.240
question mark. I yeah, I don't think so so that

143
00:08:08.480 --> 00:08:10.680
we don't really know what is going on. I think

144
00:08:10.759 --> 00:08:13.879
the only way that it's addressed is that she often

145
00:08:13.920 --> 00:08:17.720
talks about how horrible her dad was grieving, how he felt,

146
00:08:17.800 --> 00:08:23.680
how he wasn't himself anymore. So maybe but yeah, yeah, yeah,

147
00:08:24.720 --> 00:08:28.680
so yeah, unless I just faced out and then her

148
00:08:28.720 --> 00:08:30.920
dad went through an exorcism, but yeah, I don't recall

149
00:08:31.000 --> 00:08:35.759
it being thoroughly addressed again, So I want to know

150
00:08:35.799 --> 00:08:38.639
how long these girls were left waiting for answers While

151
00:08:38.679 --> 00:08:41.159
she is in her head thinking about all this, like

152
00:08:42.360 --> 00:08:46.200
how much time has passed? She's just there blankly staring

153
00:08:46.200 --> 00:08:47.039
off at the distance.

154
00:08:47.679 --> 00:08:50.679
Yeah, or does time stop? And then.

155
00:08:53.600 --> 00:08:56.960
So eventually she returns to the rest of the signs

156
00:08:57.360 --> 00:09:00.519
like a person being terrified of religious things like water,

157
00:09:00.799 --> 00:09:03.799
the cross. And then she's interrupted not by her own

158
00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:07.279
thoughts this time, but by La Madres Superior, Madre Asuncion,

159
00:09:08.080 --> 00:09:12.080
and she walks in with her menacing footsteps, and she

160
00:09:12.480 --> 00:09:16.360
dismisses everything. Antonia just told the girls, like, no, don't

161
00:09:16.360 --> 00:09:18.559
listen to her, she's just an atheist. I don't think

162
00:09:18.600 --> 00:09:20.600
she actually says that out loud, but I don't remember

163
00:09:20.639 --> 00:09:24.639
why she said, Oh yeah, she just dismisses it, like, oh,

164
00:09:24.720 --> 00:09:28.960
these things are very real, like don't listen to miss Rubiano.

165
00:09:29.440 --> 00:09:33.720
And so we learned that Madre Asuncion's presence creates tension, anxiety,

166
00:09:33.759 --> 00:09:36.720
and maybe even fear in Antonia, which dates back to

167
00:09:36.759 --> 00:09:38.960
when she was a student at the same school she's

168
00:09:38.960 --> 00:09:43.039
now teaching at, and then madresunzions the class. One of

169
00:09:43.039 --> 00:09:45.919
the most common causes of being possessed is that one

170
00:09:46.000 --> 00:09:48.200
has turned to the devil or to the occult, and

171
00:09:48.240 --> 00:09:50.559
when they try to escape the demonic world. That's when

172
00:09:50.559 --> 00:09:53.679
they get attacked and possessed and then they're killed, which

173
00:09:53.759 --> 00:09:55.399
is like, yeah, that's an insane thing to say to

174
00:09:55.480 --> 00:09:58.879
a group of girls. I mean, yeah, yeah, why can't

175
00:09:58.879 --> 00:10:01.159
you just go with what Antonia I said, which would

176
00:10:01.159 --> 00:10:03.720
have been the correct thing, but nothing like putting godly

177
00:10:03.879 --> 00:10:09.759
fear into these youths exactly. And so Antonia remains fiedma

178
00:10:09.879 --> 00:10:12.440
and she tells Madesuncion that she just wants the girls

179
00:10:12.440 --> 00:10:15.000
to gain some perspective, because it's the nineteen thirties, for

180
00:10:15.080 --> 00:10:15.879
fuck's sake.

181
00:10:16.600 --> 00:10:18.000
Not thout eighteen hundreds anymore.

182
00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:22.279
Then Madrea is like, no, go home, okay, go home.

183
00:10:22.679 --> 00:10:23.320
Yeah. Done.

184
00:10:24.159 --> 00:10:27.759
Before this, though, Antonia has again deep in her thoughts,

185
00:10:27.919 --> 00:10:31.399
remembering that Madaresluncion almost beat one of her class I

186
00:10:31.440 --> 00:10:32.200
mean it's said death.

187
00:10:33.000 --> 00:10:38.960
Oh yeah this I thought another visited, but it was her.

188
00:10:39.200 --> 00:10:41.799
Yeah, it was Madresoncion who beat another one of her

189
00:10:41.799 --> 00:10:47.799
classmens when she was when okay, yeah, yet another thing

190
00:10:47.840 --> 00:10:50.200
that's just like thrown in there and you're like okay,

191
00:10:51.039 --> 00:10:53.480
yeah wow, like I mean I guess, yeah, we learned

192
00:10:53.480 --> 00:10:54.759
Maddestenion sucks.

193
00:10:55.120 --> 00:10:55.399
Yeah.

194
00:10:55.600 --> 00:11:01.039
So Madescion then also tells her something about how Antonia

195
00:11:01.320 --> 00:11:05.440
is going around hiding behind the facade of skepticism, but

196
00:11:05.519 --> 00:11:07.480
that she needs to remember what happened to her mother.

197
00:11:07.679 --> 00:11:10.840
And then we vaguely learned something happened to her mom. Yeah,

198
00:11:11.600 --> 00:11:15.240
and then Madison tells Antonia that she choosing not to

199
00:11:15.279 --> 00:11:18.159
believe doesn't make evil disappear. It just leaves her weak,

200
00:11:18.559 --> 00:11:21.759
unprepared and defenseless. And she says all that in front

201
00:11:21.799 --> 00:11:25.120
of the girls, which is like, okay, like at least

202
00:11:25.120 --> 00:11:28.519
pull her into office hours. I thought that they were

203
00:11:28.559 --> 00:11:30.679
in her office at this point, but I guess not.

204
00:11:31.799 --> 00:11:37.279
Oh you know what, maybe I think they were maybe

205
00:11:37.320 --> 00:11:39.559
because and maybe that's when she told me solders to

206
00:11:39.600 --> 00:11:41.759
go home. Yeah, it's in her Okay, this might be

207
00:11:41.759 --> 00:11:43.919
in her office. Then wow, okay, not bad.

208
00:11:44.039 --> 00:11:46.120
I tried. I tried my best year wrong.

209
00:11:47.200 --> 00:11:51.399
Yeah, and then we suddenly and abruptly go to the past.

210
00:11:51.559 --> 00:11:54.200
In this well, I were run on Kendles. So it

211
00:11:54.279 --> 00:11:56.879
was like my weirdest font. But it tells sized I

212
00:11:56.879 --> 00:12:01.799
have like this dyslexic font. What I used the dyslexia

213
00:12:01.879 --> 00:12:02.559
font because.

214
00:12:02.399 --> 00:12:04.120
It's fun to read.

215
00:12:04.879 --> 00:12:08.480
Yeah, I saw someone someone said that this font would

216
00:12:08.480 --> 00:12:10.840
help you pay more attention if you have like ADHD.

217
00:12:10.879 --> 00:12:12.519
It was like five, like two years ago that I

218
00:12:12.519 --> 00:12:17.080
found it no problem reading. Well, I lose my spot

219
00:12:17.120 --> 00:12:19.960
a lot. But it has like certain parts that are bold,

220
00:12:20.519 --> 00:12:23.720
and then it's like, oh to like make you pay attention. Yeah,

221
00:12:23.759 --> 00:12:28.879
like the the bottom part of the letters are like bold,

222
00:12:29.039 --> 00:12:30.679
and then it's like this funny little font.

223
00:12:30.960 --> 00:12:34.399
Oh wow, yeah, uh.

224
00:12:34.519 --> 00:12:37.039
The part you're talking about that is I like I

225
00:12:37.120 --> 00:12:40.000
tele size. It's uh, it's.

226
00:12:39.840 --> 00:12:41.679
The letter from her mom, right, Yeah.

227
00:12:41.720 --> 00:12:44.679
Then we go to the italicized version and it's like

228
00:12:44.720 --> 00:12:48.519
it's the past. It's dated eight August nineteen twenty one.

229
00:12:48.600 --> 00:12:52.559
It's a journal entry. It's clearly not Antonia's POV anymore,

230
00:12:52.639 --> 00:12:54.120
but we don't know who it is yet.

231
00:12:54.320 --> 00:12:54.879
Yeah.

232
00:12:55.000 --> 00:12:59.519
The letters talking about how beautiful faults or is and

233
00:12:59.639 --> 00:13:03.279
how much that the person writing this needed to own

234
00:13:03.320 --> 00:13:07.600
this land, how secluded the places they finally feel at

235
00:13:07.600 --> 00:13:12.279
home here, and then the journal entry mentions Ricardo said

236
00:13:12.320 --> 00:13:14.440
something something like the workers are going to get this

237
00:13:14.480 --> 00:13:17.360
all cleaned up. And so at that point when Ricardo's mentioned,

238
00:13:17.360 --> 00:13:20.799
we were like, okay, that's probably her mom. Yeah, and

239
00:13:20.879 --> 00:13:25.679
so that's who's writing the journal entry. And then Estella.

240
00:13:25.799 --> 00:13:29.360
Her mom asks herself if Antonia will appreciate this place

241
00:13:29.399 --> 00:13:32.159
as much as her gothic books, Like this just seems

242
00:13:32.200 --> 00:13:33.919
so random, like, oh, she's gonna like this better than

243
00:13:33.960 --> 00:13:38.919
her little, stupid books.

244
00:13:41.159 --> 00:13:42.440
It just seems running to me.

245
00:13:42.519 --> 00:13:44.159
But you know, and maybe she was really I guess

246
00:13:44.200 --> 00:13:47.960
she was really obsessed with the books, so she was. Yeah,

247
00:13:47.960 --> 00:13:50.639
she was all like, because this place is so much

248
00:13:50.679 --> 00:13:55.120
better than her stupid gothic books. Basically is what she's saying,

249
00:13:55.600 --> 00:13:58.200
and one day it will all be hers, which contains

250
00:13:58.200 --> 00:13:59.799
a deeper meaning by the end of the book, But

251
00:14:00.080 --> 00:14:02.120
this point in the book, we don't know how deep

252
00:14:02.240 --> 00:14:05.200
this really is. Completely forgot about that when I read

253
00:14:05.639 --> 00:14:08.519
later on right now it just seems like a mom

254
00:14:08.679 --> 00:14:12.960
wanting to pass on her material belongings to a child. Yeah,

255
00:14:13.159 --> 00:14:16.000
And then we're back in the nineteen thirties with Antonia.

256
00:14:16.120 --> 00:14:20.080
She's walking to her house from her school job because

257
00:14:20.120 --> 00:14:24.279
she was forced to leave an hour early, and she's

258
00:14:24.279 --> 00:14:27.159
sneaking to herself as she's walking, how it wouldn't be

259
00:14:27.240 --> 00:14:29.559
so bad to be fired, because after all, her former

260
00:14:29.639 --> 00:14:32.279
childhood home is being turned into Colma's first selexury hotel.

261
00:14:32.320 --> 00:14:37.000
And I'm like, Okay, that doesn't like flow together. I'm sorry, Like.

262
00:14:36.919 --> 00:14:39.360
Maybe what would relate to.

263
00:14:42.360 --> 00:14:44.559
Yeah, yeah, like, oh, maybe it wouldn't be so bad

264
00:14:44.600 --> 00:14:47.879
to be fired because my former home is.

265
00:14:48.000 --> 00:14:49.600
Like it's like, okay, there should have been something I

266
00:14:49.639 --> 00:14:50.600
don't know, maybe.

267
00:14:50.559 --> 00:14:54.080
Like yes and yes and what does this mean for

268
00:14:54.200 --> 00:14:56.320
you specifically, like can you live there?

269
00:14:56.519 --> 00:14:58.559
Or what? Right? Right?

270
00:14:58.679 --> 00:15:01.039
But I guess if she got fire, she would be

271
00:15:01.080 --> 00:15:04.240
away from all of it. I don't know, I don't know,

272
00:15:04.480 --> 00:15:08.120
I don't know, but yeah, we learned here that her

273
00:15:08.159 --> 00:15:12.200
former childhood home is being turned into Columbia's first luxury hotel.

274
00:15:12.440 --> 00:15:15.399
This hotel is had to have a ballroom, sixteen rooms, murals,

275
00:15:15.559 --> 00:15:21.120
gold everywhere, crystal chandeliers, electricity telephones, three restaurants, a cellar,

276
00:15:21.440 --> 00:15:25.000
and a balcony facing the five hundred foot waterfall. It

277
00:15:25.039 --> 00:15:28.120
sounds really nice, it sounds beautiful. And then she's like,

278
00:15:28.279 --> 00:15:30.759
the house was bugly and I fucking hated in. It

279
00:15:30.799 --> 00:15:34.000
was the worst place ever, which we will hear again

280
00:15:34.039 --> 00:15:36.480
and again and again how ugly the house was and

281
00:15:36.559 --> 00:15:39.200
how it was the worst place ever. Stinky, it always

282
00:15:39.200 --> 00:15:46.440
had a funky musty smell. Do it's tink it's dunk. Yes,

283
00:15:47.000 --> 00:15:50.519
so we're gonna hear that again and again. She also

284
00:15:50.679 --> 00:15:53.600
thinks about the depression her dad has been fighting since

285
00:15:53.600 --> 00:15:56.480
her mom died four years ago in the house. Then

286
00:15:56.559 --> 00:15:59.279
suddenly she thinks about the demonic possession and that the

287
00:15:59.320 --> 00:16:01.320
girls in her class have no idea what real possession

288
00:16:01.360 --> 00:16:04.399
looks like because I look like her dad grieving, which, yeah,

289
00:16:04.440 --> 00:16:07.000
I could see that. I could see that making sense.

290
00:16:07.919 --> 00:16:09.799
I still don't enjoy the way it was written, though.

291
00:16:10.720 --> 00:16:14.600
It was very clunky writing. It wasn't smooth like you

292
00:16:14.639 --> 00:16:17.720
said earlier. One thought didn't connect to the other. It

293
00:16:17.840 --> 00:16:20.279
was just like saying it to say it because we

294
00:16:20.320 --> 00:16:24.399
need to know it, instead of yes, I don't know,

295
00:16:25.679 --> 00:16:35.240
just delivering it more. Yeah, creatively, I don't know, right, Yeah, exactly, Okay.

296
00:16:35.320 --> 00:16:38.480
And so as she's walking, she feels like she's being

297
00:16:38.600 --> 00:16:42.840
followed and watched, and then she hears the sound of

298
00:16:42.840 --> 00:16:46.480
someone rushing towards her, like when someone walks fast, I guess.

299
00:16:46.679 --> 00:16:48.720
She looks up and she sees a dark silhouette with

300
00:16:48.759 --> 00:16:51.559
red eyes across the street, and she's like, I have

301
00:16:51.679 --> 00:16:54.840
seen these eyes, but I don't remember where her house

302
00:16:56.559 --> 00:16:59.960
where else, I don't know the street sounds too quiet,

303
00:17:00.159 --> 00:17:01.720
and she's like, is this a dream?

304
00:17:02.000 --> 00:17:02.200
Now?

305
00:17:02.200 --> 00:17:04.480
It's not real? And she's deep in her thoughts and

306
00:17:04.519 --> 00:17:07.319
she's like, it couldn't be. She says it's out loud,

307
00:17:07.359 --> 00:17:08.799
and then Emmi goes like, what the fuck are you

308
00:17:08.839 --> 00:17:09.400
talking about?

309
00:17:09.839 --> 00:17:12.400
She does that a lot too, Yeah, she does. Yeah.

310
00:17:13.039 --> 00:17:16.400
He's like, Senorita, what the fuck? No, He's like, are

311
00:17:16.440 --> 00:17:18.680
you okay? Are you okay?

312
00:17:18.839 --> 00:17:19.759
Which are you dumb?

313
00:17:21.000 --> 00:17:22.880
And then she's like, with there's someone at the door.

314
00:17:23.079 --> 00:17:26.279
Is my dad outside? He's like, no, no, one's outside.

315
00:17:26.400 --> 00:17:27.680
The weather sucks right now.

316
00:17:28.839 --> 00:17:30.559
Who in there goddamn mind would.

317
00:17:30.400 --> 00:17:32.839
Be outside right now? And that's basically what he sayss

318
00:17:32.839 --> 00:17:36.200
but nicer, and then he asks her, very seriously, how

319
00:17:36.200 --> 00:17:36.759
do you do it?

320
00:17:36.839 --> 00:17:38.720
All? Work? Take care of your father?

321
00:17:38.880 --> 00:17:42.200
This house, the business, what business? I'm not sure? The

322
00:17:42.319 --> 00:17:47.039
other house there's a business, he said, the business question

323
00:17:47.119 --> 00:17:49.720
mark or I put the question mark in my back.

324
00:17:49.799 --> 00:17:50.559
I don't know what business.

325
00:17:50.599 --> 00:17:54.000
I don't remember how business being mentioned. And this's the

326
00:17:54.039 --> 00:17:57.880
business of the house being rented as a hotel. Maybe,

327
00:17:58.279 --> 00:18:00.519
But then he also says the other house, which is

328
00:18:00.920 --> 00:18:03.960
the hotel, So I don't know, but yeah, I don't know.

329
00:18:04.000 --> 00:18:07.240
What business it would be, and he's like, you're doing

330
00:18:07.279 --> 00:18:08.920
too much. She's like, I don't have a choice, and

331
00:18:08.960 --> 00:18:12.240
he's like, there's always a choice, which I guess it

332
00:18:12.359 --> 00:18:19.880
seems like an unnatural conversation. Yeah. Yeah. Also like Carmela

333
00:18:20.000 --> 00:18:28.880
does a lot. She's there like lifelong made and so likes.

334
00:18:27.079 --> 00:18:28.359
Carmela be free.

335
00:18:29.079 --> 00:18:31.200
Yeah, she's the one doing the most here.

336
00:18:31.440 --> 00:18:34.000
I don't know wants to be there, No, she does.

337
00:18:34.079 --> 00:18:36.519
She wants to be there, But I'm saying, I'm saying

338
00:18:36.559 --> 00:18:39.279
that Antonia isn't doing it by herself.

339
00:18:39.680 --> 00:18:41.359
Yeah. Yeah, Carmela does a lot.

340
00:18:42.279 --> 00:18:47.759
Yeah, she has a superwoman Caramela by her side. So yeah. Anyway,

341
00:18:48.079 --> 00:18:50.799
she finally goes inside the house. She thinks about how

342
00:18:50.839 --> 00:18:53.799
whatever she saw left her all disarrayed, and how it

343
00:18:53.839 --> 00:18:56.519
all started a year before her mom died and she

344
00:18:56.519 --> 00:18:58.759
would wake up screaming, shrieking for help in the middle

345
00:18:58.759 --> 00:19:00.839
of the night. Her parents would come and Carmela would

346
00:19:00.880 --> 00:19:03.559
rush to her too, and they would then dismiss her fears,

347
00:19:03.599 --> 00:19:05.640
all in their own ways, like oh, it's gonna be okay,

348
00:19:05.720 --> 00:19:08.759
or it was nothing, aren't real, Yeah, all in their

349
00:19:08.799 --> 00:19:11.519
own ways, but doing that, which, yeah, I get it. Again,

350
00:19:12.480 --> 00:19:15.240
I would do the same thing. But no matter what

351
00:19:15.400 --> 00:19:18.960
they said or her mom said, those supposed dreams did

352
00:19:18.960 --> 00:19:21.759
not get better. And she thought that being away from

353
00:19:21.799 --> 00:19:25.240
the former house, her former home, would make it all okay,

354
00:19:25.440 --> 00:19:28.640
make it go away, but what she saw today proved

355
00:19:28.640 --> 00:19:33.000
that that was not the case. And she has some

356
00:19:33.079 --> 00:19:35.240
of her mama's journals, just the few that she was

357
00:19:35.279 --> 00:19:39.279
able to get before the house was burned by her father,

358
00:19:40.799 --> 00:19:42.559
and so she wants to find the rest of the

359
00:19:42.599 --> 00:19:45.960
journal entries so she could get real answers like what

360
00:19:46.480 --> 00:19:49.799
was she seeing and why did her mom die? And

361
00:19:49.839 --> 00:19:52.160
that's basically exactly what the book says.

362
00:19:53.119 --> 00:19:56.400
Yeah, it's like.

363
00:19:59.079 --> 00:20:01.440
I always think I I don't recognize bad writing and

364
00:20:01.480 --> 00:20:02.559
that I love everything I read.

365
00:20:02.599 --> 00:20:03.440
But that's not true.

366
00:20:04.160 --> 00:20:09.759
And this, like we said earlier, it was very clunky

367
00:20:09.839 --> 00:20:17.559
written over explained, yeah, very what is that thing? It

368
00:20:17.680 --> 00:20:21.640
was very telling instead of showing yes, I like to

369
00:20:21.680 --> 00:20:24.519
be shown, Yeah, I don't mind, and.

370
00:20:24.640 --> 00:20:28.039
Dined you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

371
00:20:28.799 --> 00:20:31.839
So she's deep in her thoughts again, Carmela walks up

372
00:20:31.880 --> 00:20:34.000
to her and tells her that her dad is ready

373
00:20:34.000 --> 00:20:37.400
for the grand opening. Uh, and Antonia doesn't want it

374
00:20:37.480 --> 00:20:40.400
to go because the deep depression that has engulfed him

375
00:20:40.440 --> 00:20:41.880
since his wife died.

376
00:20:42.640 --> 00:20:43.640
That's another thing.

377
00:20:44.039 --> 00:20:46.960
She goes back and forth from my mom Estella and

378
00:20:47.039 --> 00:20:49.480
his wife, and then I'm like, pick one.

379
00:20:50.000 --> 00:20:51.759
It took me a second to real.

380
00:20:51.640 --> 00:20:55.960
One because I keep forgetting yes, you forgetting with ye.

381
00:20:57.200 --> 00:20:59.960
And then I was like, wait, is Carmela Stella? Oh no, sorry,

382
00:21:00.119 --> 00:21:02.000
two different people my bad. And there's not even that

383
00:21:02.039 --> 00:21:04.799
many characters in this book, but it's because of this,

384
00:21:05.640 --> 00:21:07.839
Like she'll start thinking and she's like, oh, and then

385
00:21:07.920 --> 00:21:09.559
his wife and then it's like, Okay, you could just

386
00:21:09.640 --> 00:21:10.839
had my mom because you're thinking.

387
00:21:10.880 --> 00:21:13.920
You're the one thinking right now. Yeah, yeah, I don't know.

388
00:21:14.400 --> 00:21:17.440
You're not maybe about your dad and your mom in

389
00:21:17.480 --> 00:21:20.359
relation to each other. You're thinking of your mom in

390
00:21:20.519 --> 00:21:22.400
relation to you. So why would you be It's like

391
00:21:22.400 --> 00:21:24.440
if I was talking about my mom and then I'd

392
00:21:24.480 --> 00:21:26.559
be like, instead of saying my mom, I'd be like

393
00:21:26.720 --> 00:21:28.920
my dad's ex wife.

394
00:21:30.680 --> 00:21:34.559
Non exactly story, like.

395
00:21:34.480 --> 00:21:37.440
Oh, yeah, I'm going to visit my dad's ex wife today.

396
00:21:37.640 --> 00:21:39.039
What my mom?

397
00:21:39.359 --> 00:21:41.720
Your mom? I'm a mommy? Yeah.

398
00:21:41.960 --> 00:21:43.839
So yeah, that was I think one of my bigger

399
00:21:43.880 --> 00:21:46.240
issues with the book. And I know, like Hey, I

400
00:21:46.279 --> 00:21:48.640
can't write a book, That's why I'm not an author.

401
00:21:48.680 --> 00:21:49.200
But I read.

402
00:21:52.680 --> 00:21:55.039
I can't write for shit either. No, I can't write

403
00:21:55.039 --> 00:21:57.920
for shit either, but but we do read. Yeah, but

404
00:21:58.000 --> 00:22:01.920
you know, people I think. I mean, I I don't

405
00:22:01.960 --> 00:22:03.680
usually even really listen to reviews.

406
00:22:03.720 --> 00:22:04.519
I'll just read whatever.

407
00:22:04.960 --> 00:22:08.519
Yeah, but I think that it's fair. That's how it's written.

408
00:22:09.680 --> 00:22:10.039
Yeah.

409
00:22:10.200 --> 00:22:13.000
No, I agree, And at the premise it had potential,

410
00:22:13.039 --> 00:22:16.640
and it has potential, like you know, it picked up.

411
00:22:16.519 --> 00:22:18.200
For me towards the end too.

412
00:22:18.279 --> 00:22:21.359
Yeah, so it wasn't like a horrible read, just like

413
00:22:21.400 --> 00:22:26.200
the first half. Yes, and I think, you know, if

414
00:22:26.200 --> 00:22:27.839
she comes down with work in the future, I think

415
00:22:27.839 --> 00:22:29.839
I will check it out because I would imagine that

416
00:22:29.839 --> 00:22:34.200
she improved from this one based on like critiques. Yeah,

417
00:22:34.440 --> 00:22:36.160
so I would for sure check it out. Like the

418
00:22:36.160 --> 00:22:38.960
setting was cool, We'll get into all that. Yeah, and

419
00:22:39.000 --> 00:22:42.160
we're recapping right now. I'm already trying to talk about that. Yeah,

420
00:22:43.400 --> 00:22:53.440
X give me to the end, Like, okay, so, yeah,

421
00:22:53.920 --> 00:22:56.920
his wife died and she thinks that being away from

422
00:22:56.960 --> 00:23:00.799
the house is the answer. And Caramela tells Antonia that

423
00:23:01.119 --> 00:23:04.400
he her dad will never forget the house. So you know,

424
00:23:04.400 --> 00:23:06.119
we learn a little bit about her dad, check out

425
00:23:06.160 --> 00:23:08.640
about having been a super successful architect and that he

426
00:23:08.720 --> 00:23:13.839
built the mansion on Elsalto that was his ultimate project

427
00:23:13.920 --> 00:23:20.039
for his wife. Her mom, and she continues to think

428
00:23:20.039 --> 00:23:23.480
about how this is a terrible idea returning to the

429
00:23:23.519 --> 00:23:25.559
house because I also that wasn't like said right away,

430
00:23:25.599 --> 00:23:26.799
Like some of the things that I should have been

431
00:23:26.839 --> 00:23:29.880
said weren't said, and then other things were over explained. Yeah,

432
00:23:30.039 --> 00:23:32.400
so she thinks this is a terrible idea for them

433
00:23:32.440 --> 00:23:35.559
to go to the ground opening of the former house

434
00:23:35.599 --> 00:23:39.240
turned into hotel, and she's like, we need to forget

435
00:23:39.279 --> 00:23:41.720
everything that happened in the house. We cannot return to it.

436
00:23:42.599 --> 00:23:45.240
And her father holds all these good memories from the house,

437
00:23:45.279 --> 00:23:47.440
while she was like, it was a terrible place. I

438
00:23:47.440 --> 00:23:49.799
have not a single good memory from it. Befair she

439
00:23:50.079 --> 00:23:55.119
was being haunted there, no, of course, although honestly, I

440
00:23:55.200 --> 00:23:58.480
kind of wish that we would have like gotten povs

441
00:23:58.519 --> 00:24:01.920
from her punting in the house. I think that would

442
00:24:01.920 --> 00:24:04.359
have meant more. I think I would have understood how

443
00:24:04.440 --> 00:24:06.440
haunting it was, because right now I'm like, all right, fine,

444
00:24:06.480 --> 00:24:09.119
like you were scared in the house, Like yeah, so

445
00:24:09.240 --> 00:24:11.160
you know, we learned about her first memory of the house,

446
00:24:11.200 --> 00:24:13.160
and that is the only happy memory of the house.

447
00:24:13.200 --> 00:24:16.160
They were sitting by the fireplace together and he's like,

448
00:24:16.200 --> 00:24:18.519
this is our place, Nona. Sorry, I don't know why

449
00:24:18.519 --> 00:24:21.279
I said it, like that, this is our place. Nona

450
00:24:22.279 --> 00:24:24.319
and her parents have a bunch of gifts for her,

451
00:24:24.640 --> 00:24:28.599
like all these fancy gothic books, and she's thinking all

452
00:24:28.640 --> 00:24:33.400
this while Karmela is like waiting for a response. It

453
00:24:33.400 --> 00:24:35.319
doesn't take her that long to think of these things.

454
00:24:35.359 --> 00:24:35.720
You know what.

455
00:24:35.799 --> 00:24:37.799
Maybe I'm on the one thinking like it would take

456
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:39.720
me for ever to think these things, so there would

457
00:24:39.759 --> 00:24:42.160
be a long awkward pause, but maybe not for her.

458
00:24:42.319 --> 00:24:46.440
Maybe she's beef things, you know. So Carmela interrupts these

459
00:24:46.480 --> 00:24:48.720
thoughts and tells her that her father's going to that

460
00:24:48.839 --> 00:24:51.640
opening with or without her, And then her dad comes

461
00:24:51.680 --> 00:24:54.079
out like he was summoned or something, and he's like, yeah,

462
00:24:54.079 --> 00:24:56.640
I'm going, I'm going to that party. He's like, your

463
00:24:56.640 --> 00:24:59.680
mom would have wanted us to go, and she's like, no, you.

464
00:24:59.599 --> 00:25:00.200
Don't know that.

465
00:25:00.240 --> 00:25:04.759
You'll never know that because she's dead, which is like

466
00:25:05.119 --> 00:25:08.480
I was married to her, I think I would know. No, No,

467
00:25:08.599 --> 00:25:11.720
he would never know she's dead. She's said she's ever

468
00:25:11.799 --> 00:25:16.480
coming back. She's not, but she's not true, not making

469
00:25:16.559 --> 00:25:19.240
fun of and no, I'm not just saying what she

470
00:25:19.279 --> 00:25:22.640
would say. She says this a lot. She says variations

471
00:25:22.640 --> 00:25:23.519
of this a lot. No.

472
00:25:24.960 --> 00:25:25.240
Yeah.

473
00:25:25.680 --> 00:25:27.359
This goes on for a while, this back and forth

474
00:25:27.400 --> 00:25:29.640
of like, no, you don't know, Oh I do know,

475
00:25:29.559 --> 00:25:31.720
No you don't know, Oh I do know.

476
00:25:33.599 --> 00:25:33.960
A while.

477
00:25:34.279 --> 00:25:37.799
Eventually she agrees to go as long as Carmela goes.

478
00:25:37.839 --> 00:25:40.279
And why are you dragging Carmela into this? She didn't

479
00:25:40.279 --> 00:25:43.519
want to go either. She never gets a break. Yeah,

480
00:25:43.799 --> 00:25:47.920
that's why I'm saying, doesn't when we get a day off. Ever, No, no,

481
00:25:49.599 --> 00:25:51.920
And then there's another journal entry, and in this one

482
00:25:52.039 --> 00:25:54.680
is Stella. Her mom is talking about how the house

483
00:25:54.759 --> 00:25:58.640
lacks warmth despite its beauty, and that Antonia has locked

484
00:25:58.680 --> 00:26:01.119
herself in her room and has been I'm increasingly lonely

485
00:26:01.160 --> 00:26:03.559
in a hostile and that she doesn't understand why she

486
00:26:03.599 --> 00:26:07.119
doesn't like the waterfall, and she's worried for Antonia. And

487
00:26:07.160 --> 00:26:09.880
she ends the entry with saying that there's been increasing

488
00:26:10.000 --> 00:26:12.240
visitors to the house, but it doesn't worry her because

489
00:26:12.240 --> 00:26:14.880
she's a protector of this Latin now and so yeah,

490
00:26:14.880 --> 00:26:17.359
that's that journal entry. We learned that Antonia is just

491
00:26:17.400 --> 00:26:20.759
not having a good time there back in the nineteen thirties.

492
00:26:20.799 --> 00:26:23.880
Now with Antonia, she's in the car with her dad, Carmela,

493
00:26:23.960 --> 00:26:27.480
and Emiro the driver, and again she's thinking about how

494
00:26:27.519 --> 00:26:30.000
horrible the house was and what it must look like

495
00:26:30.079 --> 00:26:36.200
now with Dounia Perida's extravagant taste. And at first, I'm like,

496
00:26:36.200 --> 00:26:38.759
why would it matter what her taste is if Leon

497
00:26:39.079 --> 00:26:40.720
was the one who bought the house because Leone is

498
00:26:40.759 --> 00:26:41.160
her son?

499
00:26:42.599 --> 00:26:43.799
Yeah, I did it is?

500
00:26:44.480 --> 00:26:46.960
So does she buy it or he bought it for

501
00:26:47.160 --> 00:26:49.839
I don't know, but she's the one who's apparently choosing

502
00:26:50.240 --> 00:26:54.160
what the house looks like even though her son bought it. Yeah, which, okay, fine,

503
00:26:54.200 --> 00:26:56.279
I guess you know. It was just kind of like

504
00:26:56.319 --> 00:27:00.119
confusing at first because we didn't know exactly the situ

505
00:27:00.480 --> 00:27:01.559
that we will learn at the end.

506
00:27:01.480 --> 00:27:01.880
Of the book.

507
00:27:01.960 --> 00:27:06.240
Yeah, so Leone is Ricardo's bestie who bought or rented

508
00:27:06.400 --> 00:27:09.519
the hotel. Guess they're renting it, they didn't buy it

509
00:27:09.720 --> 00:27:14.720
something like that, right, Yeah, right, I think, Yeah, I

510
00:27:14.759 --> 00:27:20.480
do love this line as she's like reminiscing about the

511
00:27:20.480 --> 00:27:23.079
house and she says, quote, what a nice dist guy's

512
00:27:23.160 --> 00:27:28.160
it had on It appeared innocent, defenseless, welcoming. Even that

513
00:27:28.240 --> 00:27:30.640
was a fun line. I didn't enjoy that line. I

514
00:27:30.680 --> 00:27:34.480
think the description of the house and the house as

515
00:27:34.920 --> 00:27:38.119
almost like a life thing. That's partly what makes it

516
00:27:38.200 --> 00:27:41.079
like Gothic, right. But it's like one of my favorite

517
00:27:41.079 --> 00:27:43.839
parts of the book. And that's what I was saying

518
00:27:43.839 --> 00:27:46.160
at the beginning. The setting us everything for this book,

519
00:27:46.240 --> 00:27:48.279
and I think that if you go into it, not

520
00:27:48.400 --> 00:27:51.720
we'll we'll get into it. We'll get into it at

521
00:27:51.759 --> 00:27:55.400
the end. My dad recapping, we're recapping, Okay. So this

522
00:27:55.480 --> 00:27:59.480
goes on for quite a bit about her thoughts on

523
00:27:59.480 --> 00:28:01.400
the house and how she's nervous or scared to set

524
00:28:01.480 --> 00:28:04.799
in house, set foot in the house again because she's

525
00:28:04.839 --> 00:28:07.119
pushed these memories deep inside her and she doesn't really

526
00:28:07.160 --> 00:28:10.960
remember a ton except not liking the house. Uh.

527
00:28:11.039 --> 00:28:13.599
They finally get to the hotel and right away.

528
00:28:13.440 --> 00:28:15.640
Carna is like, oh, the smell has gotten worse, but

529
00:28:15.640 --> 00:28:20.839
they just don't notice it. Yeah, I'm like okay, And

530
00:28:20.880 --> 00:28:23.839
once again she's deep in her thoughts thinking about how

531
00:28:23.839 --> 00:28:27.759
her papa tried to burn the house down the night

532
00:28:27.839 --> 00:28:33.039
her also, Okay, we don't get a clear picture of

533
00:28:33.039 --> 00:28:36.079
how the house then last night on the house, how

534
00:28:36.119 --> 00:28:38.799
that happened. But I get I understand Antonia doesn't have

535
00:28:38.880 --> 00:28:41.039
her full memories. Yeah, and we don't get a clear

536
00:28:41.079 --> 00:28:43.720
picture of the house. We get these tiny little snippets

537
00:28:44.640 --> 00:28:47.000
and it's like, maybe like one third into it or

538
00:28:47.039 --> 00:28:49.759
something that you realize she doesn't have all her memories

539
00:28:49.799 --> 00:28:51.559
that she has a hard time remembering, like it's not

540
00:28:51.759 --> 00:28:53.599
right away, so it's right and like you're like, what

541
00:28:53.680 --> 00:28:57.279
the hell? Yeah, I think I don't actually have to

542
00:28:57.279 --> 00:28:59.839
remember how soon. It's not right away, But she meant

543
00:28:59.839 --> 00:29:02.799
she is like, I don't remember everything from you know that.

544
00:29:05.400 --> 00:29:10.000
I think maybe, yeah, so we she is deeper thoughts

545
00:29:10.000 --> 00:29:11.799
thinking about how her papa had tried to burn the

546
00:29:11.839 --> 00:29:14.119
house down the night her mom died and her and

547
00:29:14.160 --> 00:29:16.960
Carmela were still inside, and so you know, we learned

548
00:29:16.960 --> 00:29:18.759
that little piece of it, and we get these little

549
00:29:18.799 --> 00:29:21.519
snippets that night that her mom died.

550
00:29:22.680 --> 00:29:23.279
And then.

551
00:29:25.000 --> 00:29:26.720
Oh that's why she said, because I was like, why

552
00:29:26.759 --> 00:29:28.480
is she thinking about this right now as they're entering

553
00:29:28.519 --> 00:29:30.440
the party? Is what I'm wondering Half the time, I'm

554
00:29:30.440 --> 00:29:33.279
like why is she bringing this up right now? But okay,

555
00:29:33.359 --> 00:29:35.960
so she stopped Padre Juan and that's why she's thinking

556
00:29:36.119 --> 00:29:42.359
about because is the one who did the exorcism. Yes, yes,

557
00:29:43.039 --> 00:29:45.279
and that was the last time she stop Padre Juan

558
00:29:45.599 --> 00:29:50.640
her father's exorcism. But again that's like all that's that's

559
00:29:50.680 --> 00:29:55.160
the last we hear about that exorcism. And so now

560
00:29:55.200 --> 00:29:57.400
she's out of her thoughts. She greets Pather Juan and

561
00:29:57.559 --> 00:30:01.200
Don Pereira. Dona Pereira seems to be a decade younger

562
00:30:01.440 --> 00:30:02.680
than when she last saw her.

563
00:30:03.519 --> 00:30:04.680
It's little weird.

564
00:30:04.799 --> 00:30:08.160
Which they mentioned quite a bit too, like it was

565
00:30:08.240 --> 00:30:12.799
suspicious already. Really yeah, my bells were ringing, like okay,

566
00:30:12.839 --> 00:30:13.799
why did she look younger?

567
00:30:14.640 --> 00:30:16.079
Yeah? Yeah.

568
00:30:16.440 --> 00:30:20.319
And so then Antonia tells padre Juan how surprised she

569
00:30:20.400 --> 00:30:22.079
used to see him at a party, and he's like, well,

570
00:30:22.079 --> 00:30:23.920
I'm here to bless the place, and then right away

571
00:30:23.960 --> 00:30:26.160
Dona Peeda steps in and he's like.

572
00:30:26.480 --> 00:30:29.079
That's one of my closest friends. He'll always be welcome.

573
00:30:29.119 --> 00:30:33.720
Hereto, and I'm like all right, like calm down, calm down,

574
00:30:33.920 --> 00:30:36.960
Like why are you coming with coming out Antonia with

575
00:30:37.039 --> 00:30:42.799
this energy? Yeah, coming out it was weird. And then

576
00:30:42.839 --> 00:30:47.279
Antonia's dad, Ricado, thanks Donia Peda for the invite. Antonia,

577
00:30:47.359 --> 00:30:49.920
I know this fuck already, and then she she sees

578
00:30:49.960 --> 00:30:54.519
a cutie across the room. Donia Perea introduces this cut

579
00:30:54.720 --> 00:30:58.559
as Alexandro Sole, a reporter sent from Lanota to cover

580
00:30:58.960 --> 00:31:03.440
this opening, the grand opening, and then Regardo was like, oh, Alejo,

581
00:31:03.680 --> 00:31:06.559
what a pleasure, and Antonia's like, Alejo, why the fuck

582
00:31:06.640 --> 00:31:08.759
do you know him? Like she's like so perplexed by this,

583
00:31:08.920 --> 00:31:11.000
and I'm like, why are you so like perplexed by this?

584
00:31:11.240 --> 00:31:14.480
Like your parents, I know, people you don't remember, especially

585
00:31:14.480 --> 00:31:18.759
with your memory issues, Like she faces like a everything

586
00:31:18.880 --> 00:31:21.079
is like a dramatic thought to her, but you know what,

587
00:31:21.440 --> 00:31:24.039
nothing is that We're like, yeah, the more I think

588
00:31:24.079 --> 00:31:29.319
about it, that's also part of the Gothic uh horror genre.

589
00:31:29.920 --> 00:31:33.599
Or her not knowing and not trusting those around her. No,

590
00:31:33.720 --> 00:31:38.240
her being like frantic and anxious, oh oh yeah yeah,

591
00:31:38.359 --> 00:31:40.920
because you're right a little too worried about why her

592
00:31:41.000 --> 00:31:46.119
dad knows him. Yeah. Ricardo tells her Handro that he

593
00:31:46.160 --> 00:31:48.920
thought he was working at rad and then that name

594
00:31:49.039 --> 00:31:52.279
suddenly brings back memories for Antonia. She remembers that her

595
00:31:52.319 --> 00:31:55.039
mom collected the magazine and that that magazine fed her

596
00:31:55.079 --> 00:31:59.240
fascination with Tekanama Falls, a fascination that killed her, and

597
00:31:59.359 --> 00:32:01.960
we never reach into that thought. How did the magazine

598
00:32:02.000 --> 00:32:06.480
do this? I don't think that comes up again. I

599
00:32:06.519 --> 00:32:09.680
don't think so, but I guess just from like thinking

600
00:32:09.680 --> 00:32:12.000
about it right now, it's like she read about it's

601
00:32:12.039 --> 00:32:14.519
like a paranormal type magazine, and so we got her

602
00:32:14.599 --> 00:32:15.160
more into that.

603
00:32:15.240 --> 00:32:17.039
I guess. I don't know, but we.

604
00:32:17.200 --> 00:32:18.799
Learned by the end of the book it's not even

605
00:32:18.839 --> 00:32:22.000
the case. She was all she was destined to be

606
00:32:22.119 --> 00:32:26.519
obsessed with this place. Yeah, it was written in the stars.

607
00:32:32.599 --> 00:32:34.680
So at some point she gots out of her head

608
00:32:34.720 --> 00:32:37.079
again and she tells son Peda that she can hardly

609
00:32:37.200 --> 00:32:41.160
tell it was ever a house. And then she's thinking

610
00:32:41.200 --> 00:32:44.400
to herself like, oh, I still see like our stuff here,

611
00:32:44.519 --> 00:32:46.480
or like I can still see how it was a house,

612
00:32:46.559 --> 00:32:48.599
right like. She's going on about this, and then Lona

613
00:32:48.680 --> 00:32:52.839
Peda interrupts her thoughts again and she's like, well, that's

614
00:32:52.920 --> 00:32:55.920
because it's no longer a house, silly, And she thinks

615
00:32:55.920 --> 00:33:02.599
she's stay that yeah, it's a hotel. Yeah, and so yeah,

616
00:33:02.640 --> 00:33:05.079
they walk around the hotel, the smell is apparently worse.

617
00:33:05.480 --> 00:33:08.960
Donia Perreira asks Antonia what she thinks of the inscience,

618
00:33:09.000 --> 00:33:12.240
and Antonia ignores the question because she's once again remembering

619
00:33:12.319 --> 00:33:14.000
the past, something she will do.

620
00:33:14.279 --> 00:33:17.279
A lot more. She's always in her head that one.

621
00:33:18.720 --> 00:33:21.359
I'm just dying out like like people, I'm just picturing

622
00:33:21.359 --> 00:33:24.119
people waiting for her to answer, and as someone who

623
00:33:24.319 --> 00:33:28.359
like misses people because I'm like thinking about other things.

624
00:33:28.279 --> 00:33:28.880
Like I get it.

625
00:33:29.000 --> 00:33:31.359
But oh my god, this is why I would be

626
00:33:31.480 --> 00:33:41.559
the worst character. He said, Hey yourself, I'm just kidding. Yeah, no, no,

627
00:33:42.039 --> 00:33:43.599
I would be the worst because I'd be like what

628
00:33:43.920 --> 00:33:46.000
But then in the middle of in the middle of

629
00:33:46.079 --> 00:33:48.839
someone responding, I realize that I know what they said,

630
00:33:49.319 --> 00:33:55.440
and then I answer while they're talking now while they're talking,

631
00:33:55.960 --> 00:33:57.880
or I don't hear what they said, and I just

632
00:33:57.960 --> 00:34:00.000
smile and nod and I never asked what they say

633
00:34:00.079 --> 00:34:05.839
that again yeah, and like mm hmm yeah anyway, so yeah,

634
00:34:06.519 --> 00:34:09.599
she ignores the yahid ask question, and she starts remembering

635
00:34:09.679 --> 00:34:12.000
about how her mom looked at the waterfall every morning,

636
00:34:12.559 --> 00:34:14.719
and how she would talk about how the place held

637
00:34:14.800 --> 00:34:18.440
so much power, and I think it sounds so cool. Oh,

638
00:34:18.599 --> 00:34:22.000
I honestly believe that it sounds very cool, although it

639
00:34:22.119 --> 00:34:25.559
is very haunted according to legend and the people who've

640
00:34:25.559 --> 00:34:28.079
been there. But yeah, this place holds so much power

641
00:34:28.159 --> 00:34:31.159
and meaning to the Muiscap people. And then others came

642
00:34:31.239 --> 00:34:34.599
to corrupt this sacred land. And she would talk about Bochica,

643
00:34:35.239 --> 00:34:37.679
the heroin of the Muiscap people, and how they would

644
00:34:37.679 --> 00:34:41.239
go to Tekanama Falls to worship her, thanking them, thanking

645
00:34:41.320 --> 00:34:45.960
her for giving them life. And see, I feel like

646
00:34:46.000 --> 00:34:47.800
that could have been written in a way where you

647
00:34:48.280 --> 00:34:50.599
hear the story as she's telling it, but instead you're

648
00:34:50.639 --> 00:34:52.880
hearing it like if I'm telling it to you, you

649
00:34:52.960 --> 00:34:53.480
know what I mean?

650
00:34:53.599 --> 00:34:54.440
Does that make sense?

651
00:34:56.159 --> 00:34:59.639
So Antonia would be like, oh my gosh, she was

652
00:34:59.679 --> 00:35:02.360
a woman, and then Estella would be like, she's whatever

653
00:35:02.440 --> 00:35:03.039
you need her to be.

654
00:35:03.159 --> 00:35:04.880
But it's like, okay, she's a woman. Just say that.

655
00:35:08.719 --> 00:35:11.079
Since says she's like, she is whatever you need her

656
00:35:11.159 --> 00:35:13.480
to be. And I guess it depends who you ask history.

657
00:35:13.880 --> 00:35:16.800
After all, it's written by men. And then you think

658
00:35:16.880 --> 00:35:20.079
it's gonna be over there, but she continues, but I

659
00:35:20.159 --> 00:35:22.400
believe we can rewrite it. Nothing is ever set in

660
00:35:22.519 --> 00:35:25.639
stone and it's like, Okay, yeah, I mean what you're

661
00:35:25.639 --> 00:35:27.920
saying is right, but just say yeah, she's a goddess,

662
00:35:28.000 --> 00:35:29.719
she's a woman, fuck.

663
00:35:32.039 --> 00:35:32.360
All right.

664
00:35:32.400 --> 00:35:35.320
And then Antonia continues to think about how she cherished

665
00:35:35.400 --> 00:35:39.320
these stories blah blah blah. And then somehow this ends

666
00:35:39.360 --> 00:35:42.079
in her saying, God, Malla, what's her heroine? And I'm like, well, yeah,

667
00:35:42.880 --> 00:35:45.639
she's the She's the queen. She is the person who

668
00:35:45.719 --> 00:35:49.639
does everything for he. She keeps the family together and running. Yeah,

669
00:35:50.320 --> 00:35:52.320
and we're back in the party now, out of her

670
00:35:52.400 --> 00:35:56.039
head in the party. When she steps in the ballroom,

671
00:35:56.119 --> 00:35:59.760
she feels unsettled, like she's being watched and like scratching

672
00:35:59.800 --> 00:36:03.320
our her neck, which ooh, probably the scariest.

673
00:36:02.960 --> 00:36:04.199
Part in the book, honestly. Yeah.

674
00:36:06.199 --> 00:36:09.760
Suddenly the party's gone, replaced by the scent of fresh blood.

675
00:36:10.159 --> 00:36:15.079
Goosebumps spread through her. Fear strikes her, immobilizing her, and

676
00:36:15.239 --> 00:36:18.440
then there's these human like creatures covered in mud. She's

677
00:36:18.519 --> 00:36:22.400
by the waterfall. Suddenly bloony fingers wrap around her neck

678
00:36:22.480 --> 00:36:27.159
from behind. She feels pain, but bam, she's back on

679
00:36:27.239 --> 00:36:31.559
the party. She runs back to the lobby, but then

680
00:36:31.679 --> 00:36:33.840
ends up upstairs in a room with a bunch of

681
00:36:33.920 --> 00:36:37.079
books and stuff, and it turns out this is most

682
00:36:37.079 --> 00:36:40.320
of her mom's stuff. She grabs one of the books,

683
00:36:40.440 --> 00:36:44.320
opens it, immediately recognizes it as her mom's handwriting. And

684
00:36:44.639 --> 00:36:47.679
where we arrive at another journal entry, this one from

685
00:36:47.880 --> 00:36:51.719
the twenty one of December in nineteen thirty one, and

686
00:36:51.920 --> 00:36:54.320
in this one, Estella is talking about how she saw

687
00:36:54.320 --> 00:36:56.679
a pair of red eyes staring back at her in

688
00:36:56.760 --> 00:36:59.800
the dark, and somehow she had been locked in her

689
00:37:00.239 --> 00:37:03.320
safe space, her sanctuary, her that room that was hers,

690
00:37:04.400 --> 00:37:04.679
and that.

691
00:37:06.440 --> 00:37:07.880
She didn't feel safe.

692
00:37:08.360 --> 00:37:12.400
And then it ends the journal entry and now we're back,

693
00:37:12.519 --> 00:37:16.119
you know, in the present with Antonia, and it's cut

694
00:37:16.159 --> 00:37:19.000
off with the words Estella saying like that she needed

695
00:37:19.039 --> 00:37:22.320
to run, I'm not going to die tonight. I think

696
00:37:22.320 --> 00:37:25.239
it's like the last part of that journal entry. And

697
00:37:25.320 --> 00:37:28.360
Antonia she reads this her, you know, her hands are shaking.

698
00:37:29.159 --> 00:37:31.840
She wonders if there could be more hidden pages in

699
00:37:31.920 --> 00:37:35.440
the house. But she returns to the party and there

700
00:37:35.519 --> 00:37:38.639
were hundreds of questions running through her mind and she

701
00:37:38.719 --> 00:37:41.079
felt like everyone was judging her and looking at her.

702
00:37:41.639 --> 00:37:45.639
They probably were right, or maybe she's just exaggerating. I

703
00:37:45.719 --> 00:37:49.239
feel like she's an exaggerator. Well, I think that she's

704
00:37:49.320 --> 00:37:53.880
like a pariah in the town for her dad because

705
00:37:53.920 --> 00:37:57.320
of what happened in all the drama that was involved. Yeah,

706
00:37:57.719 --> 00:38:00.400
be plus her mom died. Her mom is dead, which

707
00:38:00.480 --> 00:38:05.639
we hear going back. And then suddenly she's thinking about

708
00:38:05.639 --> 00:38:08.039
how she dreamed of seeing Europe and instead she's stuck

709
00:38:08.119 --> 00:38:12.280
taking care of her dad after this hotel deal or whatever,

710
00:38:13.000 --> 00:38:15.320
and she's being haunted by her past and all the

711
00:38:15.360 --> 00:38:19.800
what ifs. And then she finds and Carmela is like, bela,

712
00:38:19.880 --> 00:38:24.440
where the hell have you been Locaton?

713
00:38:24.840 --> 00:38:25.960
The hell you been Loca.

714
00:38:26.199 --> 00:38:31.480
Exactly like that a direct quote from the book. And

715
00:38:31.599 --> 00:38:33.639
she's like, we were supposed to look after your dad

716
00:38:33.639 --> 00:38:35.159
and you disappeared for half an hour.

717
00:38:35.880 --> 00:38:39.480
Everything I get is on my shoulders. I'm doing my

718
00:38:39.639 --> 00:38:40.199
fucking job.

719
00:38:40.480 --> 00:38:43.920
Yeah, And Antonette came back looking like aha mess, that's

720
00:38:43.960 --> 00:38:48.440
why people were staring at her, honestly, yeah, not because

721
00:38:48.480 --> 00:38:51.280
of everything else. And then Antonia tells her she was

722
00:38:51.360 --> 00:38:54.199
dancing and enjoying herself, and Karamela doesn't believe it. She

723
00:38:54.320 --> 00:38:57.280
looks like fucking ship. She lots scared as fuck eyes

724
00:38:57.360 --> 00:39:01.880
like this, like when you sweating panting. Yeah, the color

725
00:39:01.920 --> 00:39:05.440
had gone from her face. Yeah, Bali, then shit, yes, yes,

726
00:39:05.920 --> 00:39:08.760
and then Garmeta tells her that she missed Donata's five

727
00:39:08.800 --> 00:39:13.000
minute toast, which was an agonizing nightmare, and that doesn't.

728
00:39:12.719 --> 00:39:13.239
Seem that long.

729
00:39:13.239 --> 00:39:16.320
I'll rather be for real haunted. No, yeah, I'd rather

730
00:39:17.360 --> 00:39:22.199
fallen off the waterfahone. So Garmela asks if she's enjoying

731
00:39:22.239 --> 00:39:26.559
the party because she was just dancing, and then Antonia,

732
00:39:26.679 --> 00:39:28.880
like a fucking weirdo, is likeugh, no, how can I

733
00:39:28.920 --> 00:39:31.400
be enjoying myself? And everyone is scrutinizing me and telling

734
00:39:31.440 --> 00:39:33.320
me I'm sorry for your last and it's like, well, bitch,

735
00:39:33.360 --> 00:39:38.519
you just told Goarmeda you were dancing. I'm so tired

736
00:39:38.719 --> 00:39:39.440
I can with her.

737
00:39:40.960 --> 00:39:42.280
She is the drama.

738
00:39:43.639 --> 00:39:46.239
She is the problem, yeah, because it's like if you

739
00:39:46.360 --> 00:39:49.119
told me you were just dancing and then I'm like,

740
00:39:49.159 --> 00:39:50.920
oh yeah, and then this happened, but yeah, so you're

741
00:39:50.960 --> 00:39:52.519
having a good time, right, and then you're like.

742
00:39:52.599 --> 00:39:56.719
No, I'm always dead. She's dead.

743
00:39:56.880 --> 00:39:57.239
She's dead.

744
00:39:57.400 --> 00:40:01.000
Going back, and then everyone is asking me how I'm doing,

745
00:40:02.199 --> 00:40:04.639
and then they're sorry for my loss and it's been.

746
00:40:04.559 --> 00:40:09.079
Three fucking years, right, and so then my response would

747
00:40:09.079 --> 00:40:11.920
have been like, oh, you just said you were dancing.

748
00:40:15.480 --> 00:40:18.280
But then Carmela says, the same people telling her this.

749
00:40:18.480 --> 00:40:24.119
Now we're calling her Mama Bluca after she died. Yeah, okay,

750
00:40:24.920 --> 00:40:29.199
old people aren't two faced, no. Yeah, And this rumor, yeah,

751
00:40:29.239 --> 00:40:32.719
began because people started believing that El Castillochica was haunted,

752
00:40:33.320 --> 00:40:36.800
which yeah, it was. It's always been haunted. Yeah, since

753
00:40:37.039 --> 00:40:39.119
the since the time for the realization.

754
00:40:39.599 --> 00:40:40.320
Yeah.

755
00:40:41.639 --> 00:40:43.519
And then Antonio was like, I never cared what people

756
00:40:43.559 --> 00:40:46.239
said about my mom, but now she's full of questions,

757
00:40:47.119 --> 00:40:49.960
and you know what, she'll have all these thoughts to herself,

758
00:40:50.079 --> 00:40:53.199
and she she'll repeat her thoughts to like out loud,

759
00:40:53.280 --> 00:40:57.960
to yeah, so we hear whatever, Yeah, yeah, like why

760
00:40:58.079 --> 00:40:58.920
and how she diing?

761
00:40:59.000 --> 00:41:01.840
What really happened? Again? We have are we heard this?

762
00:41:01.960 --> 00:41:03.880
We're gonna hear it again and again and again.

763
00:41:04.280 --> 00:41:04.519
Yeah.

764
00:41:04.639 --> 00:41:08.119
So she tells Kama she needs to see the waterfall again,

765
00:41:08.400 --> 00:41:10.719
and then she has a flashback to the night her

766
00:41:10.800 --> 00:41:14.280
mom died. That something had distracted her from her parents

767
00:41:14.400 --> 00:41:20.519
momentarily before her mom jumped, and she only knew that

768
00:41:20.840 --> 00:41:23.960
she jumped because her dad says she jumped something that

769
00:41:24.039 --> 00:41:26.679
she did not believe at all, and then her dad

770
00:41:26.719 --> 00:41:29.199
would be like, you can't know that. She wouldn't jump.

771
00:41:29.320 --> 00:41:30.800
She jumped like she did jump.

772
00:41:31.239 --> 00:41:32.440
And then Antonio would be like.

773
00:41:32.519 --> 00:41:35.599
No, she's suspicious of her dad. Yeah, but sorry, we

774
00:41:36.199 --> 00:41:38.760
in short, she's suspicious of her dad. But we go

775
00:41:38.880 --> 00:41:40.920
on for a few pages of this back and forth. Yeah,

776
00:41:41.920 --> 00:41:46.840
and he's like, no one pushed her, And then she's like, push,

777
00:41:47.039 --> 00:41:47.960
I never mentioned a push.

778
00:41:48.000 --> 00:41:50.559
Did you push her? Yeah?

779
00:41:50.679 --> 00:41:54.480
And this happens again like in the later on. Yeah,

780
00:41:55.119 --> 00:41:57.760
it's just like how do you get from A to B? Yeah,

781
00:41:57.960 --> 00:42:00.199
she's like going from A to Z without thinks king

782
00:42:00.239 --> 00:42:03.519
of other things in between, especially because she read the

783
00:42:03.599 --> 00:42:05.840
journal entry about her mom having been locked.

784
00:42:05.559 --> 00:42:07.519
In the room, but her mom writes something not.

785
00:42:09.079 --> 00:42:11.400
Locked me in the book, like or in my sanctuary

786
00:42:11.519 --> 00:42:14.199
or whatever in my room she says something, but she

787
00:42:14.320 --> 00:42:19.280
immediately jumps on her dad having done this. Then she's bob.

788
00:42:19.679 --> 00:42:25.119
She's brought back to the present because Caramela is like hello, hello,

789
00:42:26.000 --> 00:42:31.360
mm hmmm, yes I'm here, So she's like sorry. Carmela

790
00:42:31.480 --> 00:42:34.320
is like, hey, we don't need to go to the waterfall.

791
00:42:34.360 --> 00:42:36.159
Actually we need to go look for your dad, Like

792
00:42:36.239 --> 00:42:37.679
we said we were going to watch him and I'm

793
00:42:37.719 --> 00:42:46.039
doing it by myself. Yeah, and again, I need to

794
00:42:46.119 --> 00:42:47.840
know how long people are there waiting for her to

795
00:42:48.079 --> 00:42:53.239
like finish before they're like hey, but no, Antonia ignores

796
00:42:53.280 --> 00:42:55.639
Carmela because she ignores everyone in this book.

797
00:42:55.920 --> 00:42:56.639
It's insane.

798
00:42:58.440 --> 00:43:00.480
So yeah, she just does whatever the what she wants.

799
00:43:00.519 --> 00:43:04.480
She ignores Carmela and heads to the balcony, but she's

800
00:43:04.519 --> 00:43:09.119
interrupted by the Muiska mural that had been painted by Estella,

801
00:43:09.679 --> 00:43:10.079
her mom.

802
00:43:11.679 --> 00:43:14.960
Yeah, and it's a mural of.

803
00:43:15.119 --> 00:43:18.320
The waterfall and it's showing the Muiska men that are

804
00:43:18.360 --> 00:43:21.119
being swallowed by the mist. But then they rise up

805
00:43:21.199 --> 00:43:24.199
as one of the largest birds, the condor, a type

806
00:43:24.239 --> 00:43:27.159
of vulture that lives in the Andes. And this is

807
00:43:27.280 --> 00:43:29.920
the legend and we talked about it in our episode

808
00:43:30.079 --> 00:43:32.679
of fifty three or fifty four. This is a depiction

809
00:43:32.920 --> 00:43:35.679
of the legend of the Muiska people who chose to

810
00:43:35.840 --> 00:43:39.199
die and escape colonization in this way because it was

811
00:43:39.320 --> 00:43:42.880
better than colonization. Until they believe that they would jump

812
00:43:43.000 --> 00:43:45.559
down the waterfall into freedom and once they jumped, they

813
00:43:45.599 --> 00:43:48.920
would become birds. Butchka, the goddess would turn them into birds,

814
00:43:48.960 --> 00:43:52.079
and it was like returning home, and it's because Bochica

815
00:43:52.559 --> 00:43:56.159
had already saved them once from death at that waterfall.

816
00:43:56.480 --> 00:44:00.400
The legend is that there was this giant flood and

817
00:44:00.559 --> 00:44:03.760
the goddess made this patch of land that they could

818
00:44:03.800 --> 00:44:06.760
all stand in while everything was being flooded. And now

819
00:44:06.800 --> 00:44:09.960
the waterfall was there, and that piece of land is

820
00:44:10.159 --> 00:44:13.599
what is still there from saving them, and they didn't

821
00:44:13.679 --> 00:44:15.679
drown because she saved them. So she saved them once.

822
00:44:15.960 --> 00:44:18.119
If they jump off this again, she's gonna save them again.

823
00:44:18.159 --> 00:44:21.760
It's a beautiful legend. Yeah, sad and beautiful. And that's

824
00:44:21.840 --> 00:44:25.679
what she was suspected by the painting of the depiction

825
00:44:25.840 --> 00:44:29.199
of this legend. And so she's looking at this painting

826
00:44:29.280 --> 00:44:31.639
and she's like, okay, we Chica, well you didn't give

827
00:44:31.679 --> 00:44:33.599
my mom wings. Instead, she's dead.

828
00:44:35.280 --> 00:44:39.880
She's dead. She they were coming back, but she didn't

829
00:44:39.880 --> 00:44:43.119
save her. Yeah. Well you know what I get. I get.

830
00:44:43.199 --> 00:44:45.440
I think you people do this with God too. Yeah.

831
00:44:45.559 --> 00:44:47.800
Yeah, of course she's gonna do it. I just it's this,

832
00:44:48.000 --> 00:44:49.760
like the tenth time we hear this sentence.

833
00:44:51.159 --> 00:44:52.599
That's why we're like low.

834
00:44:52.559 --> 00:44:58.840
KEI like maybe even her, because man, she's a little insufferable.

835
00:44:58.880 --> 00:45:00.840
She is the problem, she's the drama. Yeah.

836
00:45:01.119 --> 00:45:04.920
Yeah, and then like you would think that was enough

837
00:45:05.000 --> 00:45:09.519
to convey that she is upset, but Chica or like, okay,

838
00:45:10.000 --> 00:45:12.239
if you were a goddess, why is my mom dead? Right?

839
00:45:12.440 --> 00:45:15.480
Like that was enough, but no, then she says, why

840
00:45:15.559 --> 00:45:18.320
didn't Butchika save my mom if she was a devoted

841
00:45:18.360 --> 00:45:21.199
worshiper And it's like, okay, that was kind of already said,

842
00:45:21.760 --> 00:45:25.719
but then it's see what you're saying. Yeah, and then

843
00:45:25.760 --> 00:45:27.760
she goes on to talk about how her mom was

844
00:45:28.280 --> 00:45:31.239
such a devoted mom before they moved to the Casna,

845
00:45:31.719 --> 00:45:33.760
and then she became more and more obsessed with the house,

846
00:45:34.559 --> 00:45:40.079
and Dounia Preia encouraged this obsession, and that in the

847
00:45:40.199 --> 00:45:42.880
year before her mom died, she hardly came out of

848
00:45:42.960 --> 00:45:45.559
her room because she was so busy with the obsession

849
00:45:45.599 --> 00:45:49.079
of the house, and she had mood swings.

850
00:45:49.199 --> 00:45:50.199
She would feel better.

851
00:45:50.079 --> 00:45:51.960
When they were away from the house for days at

852
00:45:52.000 --> 00:45:54.960
a time, but then when they were back, she would

853
00:45:55.000 --> 00:45:59.159
immediately return to being obsessed with the falls and the house.

854
00:46:00.800 --> 00:46:02.880
And yeah, I mean at first you're like why, but

855
00:46:03.119 --> 00:46:04.880
by the end, dude, this is very clear.

856
00:46:05.320 --> 00:46:05.519
Yeah.

857
00:46:06.239 --> 00:46:08.599
And then Carmela's like Hello, are you listening to me?

858
00:46:08.960 --> 00:46:11.360
And she wasn't because she never is. She's always ignoring

859
00:46:11.400 --> 00:46:14.519
her and ignoring everyone. Yeah, and so Carmela is like,

860
00:46:14.559 --> 00:46:17.199
stop running away from me like that, because I'm old

861
00:46:17.280 --> 00:46:20.599
and I can't chase you anymore. Antonio tell Carmela that

862
00:46:20.719 --> 00:46:23.559
she has to see the waterfalls again, and then they go.

863
00:46:24.519 --> 00:46:26.920
When they're there, she wants again, thinks of her mom

864
00:46:27.440 --> 00:46:30.559
the night her mom jumped deep her thoughts until Carmela

865
00:46:30.639 --> 00:46:32.360
is like, all right, let's go. We've left your father

866
00:46:32.519 --> 00:46:36.440
long enough. And then Antonia tells Carmela that she doesn't

867
00:46:36.519 --> 00:46:39.880
think her mom phil or that anyone pushed her. But

868
00:46:40.039 --> 00:46:41.960
she's like, well, if my dad was so close, why

869
00:46:42.039 --> 00:46:45.000
didn't he stop her? And now they're back to the party.

870
00:46:45.159 --> 00:46:48.679
Suddenly her dad is her number one suspect. When it's like, okay,

871
00:46:48.719 --> 00:46:50.760
you just told Caramela you didn't they anyone pushed her?

872
00:46:51.480 --> 00:46:52.960
And then she sees her dad and she's like, yeah,

873
00:46:53.000 --> 00:46:53.559
he pushed her.

874
00:46:56.239 --> 00:46:56.440
Yeah.

875
00:46:57.639 --> 00:47:00.360
She wonders if his love was so intoxicated that he

876
00:47:00.519 --> 00:47:02.159
could have killed her, And I was like, why are

877
00:47:02.239 --> 00:47:07.119
you wondering that? How did you arrive here? Take a

878
00:47:07.159 --> 00:47:13.159
few steps back? She jumped into conclusions like her mom

879
00:47:13.360 --> 00:47:23.599
jumped into a sound No she did, No, she did,

880
00:47:23.719 --> 00:47:30.519
but that was crazy to say, I'm not thinking straight.

881
00:47:30.599 --> 00:47:34.000
I'm sorry, I've been through it today.

882
00:47:34.039 --> 00:47:35.239
Okay she has.

883
00:47:35.679 --> 00:47:38.920
Yeah, so then I'm then I go to the bar

884
00:47:39.000 --> 00:47:41.960
and asked for the strongest drink that the guy has.

885
00:47:42.320 --> 00:47:45.119
The bartender and he's like, are you becoming of a

886
00:47:45.199 --> 00:47:47.440
woman in this time? She should have never asked for this?

887
00:47:48.239 --> 00:47:50.920
How dare she? So He's like, are you alone?

888
00:47:51.000 --> 00:47:54.760
A senorita like yourself should never be drinking alone. It's

889
00:47:54.840 --> 00:47:57.519
not recommended. And she's like, okay, well I'm not a

890
00:47:57.639 --> 00:48:03.880
signorita bitch, I'm a basically, And yeah, of course that

891
00:48:04.159 --> 00:48:04.639
anchored her.

892
00:48:05.599 --> 00:48:05.800
Yeah.

893
00:48:07.000 --> 00:48:09.239
Alejandro then walks up to her and they talk for

894
00:48:09.320 --> 00:48:12.639
a bit. He's like to him, she's so rude. I'm like,

895
00:48:12.679 --> 00:48:15.440
wach whatever, I guess she's been through it. That night

896
00:48:15.559 --> 00:48:18.960
she was kind of like, looky haunted, So I probably

897
00:48:19.000 --> 00:48:22.159
would have been rude to not gonna lie. Yeah, yeah,

898
00:48:22.239 --> 00:48:24.599
you're right, I'm okay with this now. At first I'm like,

899
00:48:25.159 --> 00:48:30.239
you gage, you know what a man? But no, now

900
00:48:30.280 --> 00:48:30.880
I understand.

901
00:48:31.199 --> 00:48:31.719
Thank you for.

902
00:48:33.360 --> 00:48:37.000
Bring me back calling me in calling you in thank you,

903
00:48:37.440 --> 00:48:40.760
you're welcome, and so yeah, he wants to interview her

904
00:48:40.800 --> 00:48:44.280
and she doesn't want to. Obviously, he's like insisting and

905
00:48:44.400 --> 00:48:46.360
she's like, go start it reeling. You should know that

906
00:48:47.079 --> 00:48:50.920
when she leaves and she's standing in the courtyard and

907
00:48:51.039 --> 00:48:53.280
she's like, we need to leave. But then she's like,

908
00:48:53.320 --> 00:48:55.639
you know what, I'm not scared of your house leaving yet.

909
00:48:56.840 --> 00:48:59.480
Then she sees a dead to hit a snake and

910
00:48:59.800 --> 00:49:02.800
its moments really freaked out. But then she's like brought

911
00:49:02.880 --> 00:49:07.840
back because she hears doing Yareida Cathleen at something with

912
00:49:08.000 --> 00:49:14.400
Padaraquan mm hmm, and then doing Preda walks up to her,

913
00:49:15.119 --> 00:49:18.559
tells her, your dad looks so much better since your mom,

914
00:49:18.880 --> 00:49:23.039
and then Anthonia interrupts that and it's like, so she

915
00:49:23.159 --> 00:49:26.440
killed herself, you know what? Like she she's kind of

916
00:49:26.480 --> 00:49:29.800
funny in that way that people are like skirting around

917
00:49:30.599 --> 00:49:34.079
her mom throwing herself into you know what. I mean,

918
00:49:35.519 --> 00:49:39.159
she's not she's not, she's sure to be. She doesn't

919
00:49:39.199 --> 00:49:40.840
have to be polite, she doesn't have to be a

920
00:49:40.920 --> 00:49:44.480
woman about this, like yeah, yeah, and also she's not

921
00:49:44.599 --> 00:49:47.760
sure exactly what happened either, but she's like tired of people.

922
00:49:47.800 --> 00:49:48.280
It's pity.

923
00:49:48.400 --> 00:49:50.320
And so she's all like, oh, you mean says she

924
00:49:50.440 --> 00:49:52.920
killed herself, which.

925
00:49:52.760 --> 00:49:53.440
Is kind of funny.

926
00:49:53.599 --> 00:49:55.800
Yeah it is, but you know what, now that we're

927
00:49:56.039 --> 00:50:01.159
talking here, I'm like, god, wait, wait, my fan, sometimes

928
00:50:01.239 --> 00:50:04.960
you have to talk things through, you know what. Yeah,

929
00:50:05.440 --> 00:50:06.320
and don never forgive me.

930
00:50:06.519 --> 00:50:07.559
I kind of get it.

931
00:50:07.639 --> 00:50:14.199
I kind of get it now. And then yeah, I

932
00:50:14.280 --> 00:50:16.199
was like, well, it was a hard time for him.

933
00:50:17.320 --> 00:50:19.440
She seemed fine that day. And then Antonia was like,

934
00:50:19.440 --> 00:50:20.519
wait a minute, you saw.

935
00:50:20.400 --> 00:50:20.880
Her that day?

936
00:50:21.000 --> 00:50:25.440
What? And yeah, that is actually a relevation, that revelation

937
00:50:25.800 --> 00:50:29.159
that I understand her reaction to, unlike her, like, why

938
00:50:29.239 --> 00:50:31.920
do you know what A handle like this one I understand, Like, yeah,

939
00:50:31.960 --> 00:50:32.800
this one is true?

940
00:50:33.039 --> 00:50:34.360
Like what excuse me?

941
00:50:34.480 --> 00:50:37.639
What? What her reaction is valid here? Yeah, And so

942
00:50:37.920 --> 00:50:40.840
she's frazzled by this revelation and she tells that she

943
00:50:40.880 --> 00:50:43.599
needs to leave. She excuses herself, and then she feels

944
00:50:43.639 --> 00:50:46.880
like someone is following her. She's like hello, and then

945
00:50:46.920 --> 00:50:48.119
she hears a loud.

946
00:50:48.119 --> 00:50:49.760
Leave mm hmmm.

947
00:50:50.639 --> 00:50:52.840
And she's scared, but she's not ready to face her

948
00:50:52.880 --> 00:50:54.639
dad yet because she still thinks her dad pushed her

949
00:50:54.679 --> 00:50:56.119
mom for no reason.

950
00:50:56.679 --> 00:50:56.920
Yeah.

951
00:50:58.519 --> 00:51:00.960
So she goes upstairs and set back to the party,

952
00:51:01.599 --> 00:51:04.800
and she's in the same room that she had been

953
00:51:04.840 --> 00:51:07.360
in before. She finds another journal, but this one is

954
00:51:07.679 --> 00:51:10.559
in Chichiba, the language of the Muiska people, and it's

955
00:51:10.599 --> 00:51:12.280
in her own handwriting, and she's like, wait a minute,

956
00:51:12.280 --> 00:51:14.840
I don't, I don't. I didn't learn this, and that's trippy.

957
00:51:14.920 --> 00:51:18.320
Things are getting weird and and you're she's like what,

958
00:51:18.719 --> 00:51:21.079
And then you're like what. Both of us were like

959
00:51:21.159 --> 00:51:24.239
what what? Yeah, And she quickly folds the paper and

960
00:51:24.280 --> 00:51:26.239
puts in her pocket and then goes back to the party.

961
00:51:26.679 --> 00:51:28.559
She and I were both wondering how long the party

962
00:51:28.559 --> 00:51:32.000
had been going on. I was just gonna say, to

963
00:51:32.239 --> 00:51:36.480
this party, feel like it lasted forever. I was like, damn,

964
00:51:37.920 --> 00:51:44.400
we've already for real, it's been it's been that way, yeah, way.

965
00:51:45.400 --> 00:51:46.880
And then she runs into her done and it's like,

966
00:51:46.880 --> 00:51:49.280
all right, we need to go. We doesn't want to

967
00:51:49.320 --> 00:51:51.199
because he never listens to her, just like she never

968
00:51:51.280 --> 00:51:52.039
listens to anyone.

969
00:51:52.800 --> 00:51:53.920
That's where she gets it from.

970
00:51:56.119 --> 00:51:58.159
And then instead of thinking that's where I get her from,

971
00:51:58.199 --> 00:51:59.840
she's like, and he never listened to my mom.

972
00:52:04.840 --> 00:52:10.519
Then she wonders again, saying things like that, That's how

973
00:52:10.599 --> 00:52:13.880
I hurt them, That's how I heard them, and the

974
00:52:13.960 --> 00:52:19.960
movie playing in my head A Little Face you never

975
00:52:20.079 --> 00:52:20.800
listened to, Bro.

976
00:52:25.079 --> 00:52:27.559
And then Carmela is like, listen to Antonia and he's

977
00:52:27.599 --> 00:52:31.760
like no. She begs him again, telling him that the house,

978
00:52:31.880 --> 00:52:33.320
this place changes him and he's like.

979
00:52:33.400 --> 00:52:35.159
No, I'm staying.

980
00:52:38.679 --> 00:52:41.199
And she's that and then suddenly, like the tenth time,

981
00:52:41.280 --> 00:52:42.679
she's like, we need to go and he's like no.

982
00:52:42.920 --> 00:52:47.639
She's like, well, well, I know mom was murdered. I

983
00:52:47.719 --> 00:52:52.239
don't know where her dad musn't been like what where's

984
00:52:52.239 --> 00:52:53.440
this coming from? Yeah.

985
00:52:54.039 --> 00:52:57.039
He was like you're chasing shadows and you're acting just

986
00:52:57.159 --> 00:53:00.519
like your mom. And then he repeats that he's not leaving,

987
00:53:00.800 --> 00:53:03.760
and then the argument's over. She's like fine, and then

988
00:53:03.800 --> 00:53:07.679
she hears something say leave, leave, leave, but scary. That

989
00:53:07.760 --> 00:53:17.719
wasn't scary, and then she's in her thoughts again. She

990
00:53:17.840 --> 00:53:20.480
remembers the night that her mom died and when her

991
00:53:20.519 --> 00:53:23.960
body was found, and Haldoya Parida made her look at

992
00:53:24.000 --> 00:53:26.280
her mom's body, telling her she needed to do that

993
00:53:26.400 --> 00:53:28.719
for closure, and I'm like okay, like yeah, paida fucking

994
00:53:29.119 --> 00:53:31.159
where was it Ricarathold doing all this, like why wasn't

995
00:53:31.159 --> 00:53:32.960
he like, let her do this in her own time?

996
00:53:33.079 --> 00:53:37.119
Like kill you know? Where do we seeing? I was like,

997
00:53:37.239 --> 00:53:40.039
look at your mom, look at her body, look at

998
00:53:40.039 --> 00:53:42.599
her look away, you need to look.

999
00:53:43.760 --> 00:53:46.119
And then suddenly, as she's thinking about this, she walks

1000
00:53:46.159 --> 00:53:49.679
into a dead body on the fourth floor. And I'm

1001
00:53:49.719 --> 00:53:54.320
not sure if I'm just like dumb or this part

1002
00:53:54.400 --> 00:53:56.320
wasn't super clear to me, Like, no, the dead body

1003
00:53:56.400 --> 00:53:56.679
is real.

1004
00:53:56.800 --> 00:53:58.159
This is the one that they no, no, no.

1005
00:53:58.480 --> 00:54:01.280
Her flashback and her fighting the body seems so intertwined

1006
00:54:01.320 --> 00:54:03.639
that I couldn't tell if it was still a flashback.

1007
00:54:03.760 --> 00:54:05.840
But that might just me be a me problem, honestly,

1008
00:54:06.000 --> 00:54:09.760
I think, so, okay, that's right, Tom. I've even read

1009
00:54:09.800 --> 00:54:11.280
it again when I was doing these notes, and I

1010
00:54:11.360 --> 00:54:14.159
was like, I don't really, it wasn't clear enough to me.

1011
00:54:14.880 --> 00:54:16.559
I thought she was still in the past and it

1012
00:54:16.639 --> 00:54:19.760
was her mom's body that she stumbles upon. But no,

1013
00:54:20.000 --> 00:54:23.679
it's a fresh body, fresh dead body, and so anyway,

1014
00:54:23.920 --> 00:54:25.960
she's back in the president. She sees the dead body,

1015
00:54:26.360 --> 00:54:28.199
and then her dad is also with the dead body,

1016
00:54:28.719 --> 00:54:31.320
and she thinks something's wrong with her dad. But and

1017
00:54:31.400 --> 00:54:34.280
then she realizes that this dead man is the mayor's

1018
00:54:34.360 --> 00:54:37.480
chief of staff, Carlos Lopez, and then she feels the

1019
00:54:37.599 --> 00:54:40.920
corpse grab her hand and say it begins again, and

1020
00:54:41.000 --> 00:54:43.280
she's like no, no, no, no, no to herself, and

1021
00:54:43.360 --> 00:54:46.599
then Alexandro is like, Antonia, the five oz is on

1022
00:54:46.800 --> 00:54:49.000
their way. They're gonna get your poppy. We need to

1023
00:54:49.119 --> 00:54:51.440
get him out of here, and she's like in shock,

1024
00:54:51.519 --> 00:54:52.360
still ignoring him.

1025
00:54:52.800 --> 00:54:55.039
Again. She ignores a lot of people, but she's a

1026
00:54:55.079 --> 00:54:57.199
shock here. No, no, no, this time she's in shock.

1027
00:54:57.679 --> 00:55:02.440
This sameon Salad. He's like, this guy is dead. Antonia, awake.

1028
00:55:02.840 --> 00:55:05.599
We need to get out of here. Your puppy was

1029
00:55:05.639 --> 00:55:08.280
the only witness. It's not gonna look good. We need

1030
00:55:08.400 --> 00:55:09.000
to move him.

1031
00:55:09.360 --> 00:55:11.880
And she continues to ignore him, and then she's like no,

1032
00:55:12.000 --> 00:55:13.719
I need to know what happened. And her dad's not

1033
00:55:13.920 --> 00:55:18.679
talking either, and then Leon gets there so fast with

1034
00:55:18.840 --> 00:55:20.039
the police and they take.

1035
00:55:19.920 --> 00:55:27.039
Away her dad. She hears the word murder, murderer.

1036
00:55:26.880 --> 00:55:29.480
Sorry, murderer again and again in her mind and I

1037
00:55:29.599 --> 00:55:31.159
think it's out louder. They gets turned in her mind

1038
00:55:31.519 --> 00:55:33.280
and then she's like, oh, yeah, my dad did it,

1039
00:55:33.320 --> 00:55:35.159
and I'm like, damn, girl, give him the benefit of

1040
00:55:35.239 --> 00:55:39.280
the doubt and she follows behind us a popo is

1041
00:55:39.320 --> 00:55:43.000
taking him away, and then Carmela when everyone at the

1042
00:55:43.039 --> 00:55:45.760
party sees them walking down the stairs and him being

1043
00:55:45.880 --> 00:55:49.159
taken away. If there wasn't rumors about them before, and

1044
00:55:49.239 --> 00:55:53.159
there was, they're even worse now exactly. Kamina was like

1045
00:55:53.199 --> 00:55:58.400
what happened? And Antonia ignores her again and then she

1046
00:55:58.679 --> 00:56:01.840
just repeats it begins again, and Karla has been like

1047
00:56:01.880 --> 00:56:06.320
what the fuck? Alejandro tells her that she needs to

1048
00:56:06.400 --> 00:56:09.760
go now, like go be with your dad, don't trust anyone,

1049
00:56:10.360 --> 00:56:12.280
And for some reason, all she can think of was

1050
00:56:12.400 --> 00:56:14.079
this in this moment, is that he still wants to

1051
00:56:14.159 --> 00:56:16.480
interview her. And I'm like, she's he's telling you to

1052
00:56:16.599 --> 00:56:19.480
leave and with your dad, and You're like, he wants

1053
00:56:19.559 --> 00:56:21.719
an interview, that's all he wants from me, his story.

1054
00:56:22.119 --> 00:56:24.079
I'm like, how did you get there?

1055
00:56:24.119 --> 00:56:32.559
Again? Girl? Jump into the conclusions? Cat.

1056
00:56:33.440 --> 00:56:35.280
It takes her three hours to get to the prison

1057
00:56:35.599 --> 00:56:38.199
and Bogata. She wants to see her dad, but the

1058
00:56:38.239 --> 00:56:40.320
police is like, nope, he can only see his lawyer.

1059
00:56:40.480 --> 00:56:43.760
And Leon was already there because he left with them.

1060
00:56:44.800 --> 00:56:48.719
He accompanied them when he was first arrested, and then

1061
00:56:49.079 --> 00:56:51.039
Leon tells Antonia he's going to take care of it,

1062
00:56:51.199 --> 00:56:53.320
and that her dad would not want her to see

1063
00:56:53.400 --> 00:56:56.559
him like this, and that a Signorita does not belong there,

1064
00:56:56.719 --> 00:56:58.079
which of course makes her so angry.

1065
00:56:58.159 --> 00:56:59.360
She cannot hear this word.

1066
00:56:59.800 --> 00:57:04.840
You cannot tell her anything mm hmm, because she's going

1067
00:57:04.880 --> 00:57:07.119
to be like no, and she's right though, she she

1068
00:57:07.159 --> 00:57:10.159
should be allowed to see her dad, like please. There's

1069
00:57:10.199 --> 00:57:12.079
a bunch of back and forth. She's finally able to

1070
00:57:12.079 --> 00:57:14.360
see her dad and the first thing he tells her

1071
00:57:14.480 --> 00:57:17.039
is I didn't kill that man. It was the house,

1072
00:57:17.199 --> 00:57:20.159
but she doesn't want to hear it. And then he's like,

1073
00:57:20.639 --> 00:57:22.679
we made a mistake. We should have never gone back there.

1074
00:57:22.760 --> 00:57:25.239
That hotel shouldn't even exist. The whole place used to

1075
00:57:25.280 --> 00:57:27.519
be burned down or there will be more deaths. We

1076
00:57:27.559 --> 00:57:29.559
should have never rented it out. We were never meant

1077
00:57:29.599 --> 00:57:34.320
to be there. And he's like, I should have listened

1078
00:57:34.360 --> 00:57:40.360
to you, and Antonia is like, oh no, no, I

1079
00:57:40.400 --> 00:57:42.719
should have listened to her. Yeah, he says I should

1080
00:57:42.760 --> 00:57:45.760
have listened to her, and Antonia is like, who, old man,

1081
00:57:46.000 --> 00:57:46.800
what are you talking about?

1082
00:57:46.880 --> 00:57:47.559
Who is her?

1083
00:57:49.360 --> 00:57:53.119
I feel like she she should yessed it was his Yeah,

1084
00:57:53.320 --> 00:57:55.960
I'm like, she should have known it was her mom. Yeah,

1085
00:57:56.079 --> 00:57:58.519
he's also going to be talking about right, That's what

1086
00:57:58.679 --> 00:58:01.639
I thought. But no. So then she demands the truth

1087
00:58:01.719 --> 00:58:04.559
from him, and he again blames the house and she's like,

1088
00:58:04.639 --> 00:58:06.679
what happened to my mom the night she passed away?

1089
00:58:07.199 --> 00:58:08.960
And then he was like she was sick, She felt

1090
00:58:08.960 --> 00:58:12.079
like she had no choice and she had to jump.

1091
00:58:12.280 --> 00:58:14.320
And then she's so over his hit. She's like, stop,

1092
00:58:14.360 --> 00:58:15.280
it told me the truth.

1093
00:58:15.480 --> 00:58:16.079
You pushed her.

1094
00:58:17.800 --> 00:58:24.239
And he's like no, He's like, goddamn it, God. And

1095
00:58:24.760 --> 00:58:28.400
then he tells her that he and Alejandro found the

1096
00:58:28.480 --> 00:58:31.599
chief of staff dead and she's like, wait, he was

1097
00:58:31.679 --> 00:58:33.880
with you. He didn't tell me anything, which, yeah, that

1098
00:58:33.920 --> 00:58:37.360
would be like, okay, why didn't he say anything? And

1099
00:58:37.440 --> 00:58:38.920
so it turns out that they had agreed to meet

1100
00:58:38.960 --> 00:58:41.239
on the fourth floor for an interview and they heard

1101
00:58:41.360 --> 00:58:44.400
voices and whispers behind a locked door. They knocked, and

1102
00:58:44.519 --> 00:58:46.360
when they were about to leave, they heard someone scream.

1103
00:58:46.639 --> 00:58:49.559
They split up to find another way. Actually she didn't

1104
00:58:49.599 --> 00:58:51.079
know this yet, but they had split up when the

1105
00:58:51.119 --> 00:58:53.400
scream happened to find another way into the room, and

1106
00:58:53.480 --> 00:58:57.119
in those five minutes is when the guy was found dead.

1107
00:58:57.280 --> 00:58:59.840
So Alejandro is not an actual witness because he had

1108
00:59:00.039 --> 00:59:03.239
walked away for those five minutes, and he says he

1109
00:59:03.320 --> 00:59:04.159
doesn't her dad.

1110
00:59:04.280 --> 00:59:04.960
Now we're back here.

1111
00:59:05.360 --> 00:59:08.800
Her dad doesn't remember anything after they heard the scream.

1112
00:59:08.880 --> 00:59:12.960
He just remembers waking up in her arms covered in blood.

1113
00:59:13.239 --> 00:59:17.760
But she's still not convinced. And then then we see

1114
00:59:17.800 --> 00:59:20.159
her at work the next day, the same day. I'm

1115
00:59:20.199 --> 00:59:22.559
not sure, honestly, it has to be the next day.

1116
00:59:22.639 --> 00:59:25.719
They work up party. No, no, no. The next day,

1117
00:59:25.719 --> 00:59:28.920
after she's at the jail, she goes to see him

1118
00:59:28.960 --> 00:59:32.000
in jail. She goes to jail right after leaving the party. Oh, okay,

1119
00:59:32.039 --> 00:59:33.400
so this is the next day.

1120
00:59:33.559 --> 00:59:34.039
Ye got it.

1121
00:59:34.199 --> 00:59:37.599
Okay, She's at work the next day, she's apologizing to

1122
00:59:38.039 --> 00:59:43.599
Madre for not meeting her weekly schedule, and Madre is like, well,

1123
00:59:43.679 --> 00:59:48.559
your dad was just arrested, And somehow Antonia is surprised

1124
00:59:48.639 --> 00:59:51.039
that she already knows. And I'm like, he was arrested

1125
00:59:51.119 --> 00:59:53.760
at the party to be the grand opening the hotel

1126
00:59:54.039 --> 00:59:57.400
Actuary Hotel. Yeah, like, how can this be surprising to you?

1127
00:59:57.840 --> 01:00:01.840
Plus bothered? Whatever was there, pa Juan? Yeah, And I

1128
01:00:01.840 --> 01:00:04.559
would assume just because he's a bather and she's a madre.

1129
01:00:05.679 --> 01:00:06.559
They would know each other.

1130
01:00:07.000 --> 01:00:11.079
Yeah, So she promises to go back to her regular

1131
01:00:11.119 --> 01:00:13.719
schedule next week and to make up all the missing work,

1132
01:00:14.199 --> 01:00:18.000
and madre A is like, actually stay home, and Antonia

1133
01:00:18.199 --> 01:00:20.320
is again shocked for some reason, and I'm like, I

1134
01:00:20.440 --> 01:00:22.639
think it's reasonable that she would expect you not to

1135
01:00:22.719 --> 01:00:23.760
come to work during all this.

1136
01:00:24.239 --> 01:00:24.480
Yeah.

1137
01:00:24.719 --> 01:00:26.719
One, this is in the nineteen thirties. This is a

1138
01:00:26.800 --> 01:00:31.679
Catholic institution. Your dad was just arrested, whether he's guilty

1139
01:00:31.800 --> 01:00:31.920
or not.

1140
01:00:32.239 --> 01:00:33.480
And she's like, well he's not guilty.

1141
01:00:33.480 --> 01:00:36.639
And she's like okay, but the parents like, ye're concerned

1142
01:00:36.840 --> 01:00:39.079
and it makes sense to me, but it doesn't make

1143
01:00:39.159 --> 01:00:42.679
sense to Antonia. Yeah, she shook even though she was

1144
01:00:42.760 --> 01:00:43.880
dreaming about getting fired.

1145
01:00:44.320 --> 01:00:46.920
It's you wanted, Like who do you want?

1146
01:00:46.960 --> 01:00:51.320
Then that you wanted this right, so then mad because

1147
01:00:51.360 --> 01:00:54.960
Antonia is like basically like arguing so much. She's like, fine,

1148
01:00:54.960 --> 01:00:56.800
you can stay as long as you get your shit together,

1149
01:00:56.920 --> 01:00:58.639
get a good lawyer, and don't talk to the press,

1150
01:00:58.679 --> 01:01:01.519
and Antonia agrees. When she walks out of the school,

1151
01:01:01.519 --> 01:01:04.400
alone is there and offers her a ride home. She's like,

1152
01:01:04.440 --> 01:01:06.960
why are you really here? And he proposes to her

1153
01:01:07.639 --> 01:01:11.440
that they declare her dad mentally ill. What she doesn't

1154
01:01:11.440 --> 01:01:15.039
want to do because she doesn't think he's guilty, but

1155
01:01:15.159 --> 01:01:19.800
then she does, I don't know anyway. She goes back

1156
01:01:19.840 --> 01:01:24.159
and forth like she she's questioning yeah, and he's like, no,

1157
01:01:24.400 --> 01:01:27.360
but this is our only option because a mental institution

1158
01:01:27.519 --> 01:01:31.719
is safer than prison. She asks again if he thinks

1159
01:01:31.760 --> 01:01:33.920
her dad is guilty, and he dodges the answer like

1160
01:01:33.960 --> 01:01:39.840
a professional truly. He also tells her that Alejandro and

1161
01:01:39.880 --> 01:01:43.880
her dad were had been together, but they separated five

1162
01:01:43.960 --> 01:01:47.480
minutes before the guy died, and that's when everything happened,

1163
01:01:47.559 --> 01:01:49.760
and so or they found the guy dead, and so

1164
01:01:50.039 --> 01:01:53.880
he Alejandro is not a viable witness to her dad

1165
01:01:54.000 --> 01:01:57.920
being not guilty, And based on that, she's like, Okay,

1166
01:01:58.000 --> 01:02:01.760
my dad's innocent because he couldn't have done that much

1167
01:02:01.840 --> 01:02:05.800
damage to that body. He didn't have that time physical ability.

1168
01:02:05.480 --> 01:02:05.800
To do that.

1169
01:02:06.360 --> 01:02:09.840
No, because that guy was mingled, which yeah, final, at

1170
01:02:09.920 --> 01:02:13.760
least finally she arrived to this conclusion, A reasonable conclusion, yes, finally,

1171
01:02:14.000 --> 01:02:19.360
a factual conclusion, yeah, based in reality. And Leana is like,

1172
01:02:19.440 --> 01:02:21.760
it's our only option, think about it, but she yeah,

1173
01:02:21.840 --> 01:02:29.800
she doesn't want to understandable. Once she's back home, she

1174
01:02:29.880 --> 01:02:32.239
tells Caramela that she thinks Lane is hiding something, and

1175
01:02:32.320 --> 01:02:35.800
she calls Alexandro. He gave her his phone number when

1176
01:02:36.760 --> 01:02:40.519
they all this took place. Yeah, and so you know

1177
01:02:40.639 --> 01:02:42.880
he answers. So he tells her he will help her

1178
01:02:43.000 --> 01:02:47.039
in exchange for her story, and she agrees, and then

1179
01:02:47.079 --> 01:02:50.760
he reveals that he thinks they walked into some sort

1180
01:02:50.800 --> 01:02:54.360
of blood ritual, which I mean, yeah, maybe because the

1181
01:02:54.400 --> 01:02:58.000
guy was pretty messed up. And so then they make

1182
01:02:58.079 --> 01:03:01.400
a plan to return to the hotel because Antonia feels

1183
01:03:01.440 --> 01:03:03.800
like the answer is late in the journal entries from

1184
01:03:03.800 --> 01:03:07.760
her mom like this is somehow all connected and they're

1185
01:03:07.800 --> 01:03:11.800
in luck because that same night is the Blukas party, even.

1186
01:03:11.679 --> 01:03:13.559
Though there was just a fucking death at the hotel.

1187
01:03:14.400 --> 01:03:17.599
Yeah, but even she doesn't give a fuck, so I

1188
01:03:17.679 --> 01:03:19.840
will add, Okay, So I don't know, maybe it was

1189
01:03:19.920 --> 01:03:23.320
different because this was an elite circles, but how many

1190
01:03:23.360 --> 01:03:27.039
people were celebrating Halloween and Latin America. Oh yeah, I

1191
01:03:27.159 --> 01:03:29.679
was wondering about that too, because I know for a

1192
01:03:29.760 --> 01:03:34.559
fact that and In it wasn't celebrated. It's only recent. Yeah,

1193
01:03:34.599 --> 01:03:37.320
and then even when our own mother was a child

1194
01:03:37.519 --> 01:03:39.880
in Mexico, it was not celebrated at all.

1195
01:03:40.079 --> 01:03:40.639
I don't think.

1196
01:03:40.960 --> 01:03:44.159
I think in Mexico probably in the last what fifteen years,

1197
01:03:44.280 --> 01:03:49.960
maybe twenty nacts is my guest. I remember when we

1198
01:03:50.039 --> 01:03:54.159
were reading a Silver Nitrate. I forgot her the main

1199
01:03:54.239 --> 01:03:58.639
character's name, but she complains about or Monterra complained about

1200
01:03:59.559 --> 01:04:04.840
it started to see Halloween and Christmas decorations, yes.

1201
01:04:04.800 --> 01:04:05.920
And that shit.

1202
01:04:06.039 --> 01:04:11.239
And I think, isn't that said in the nineties or eighties, yes, nineties, yeah, yeah,

1203
01:04:11.480 --> 01:04:14.440
and that was Mexico. Yeah, gonna be us further further.

1204
01:04:14.760 --> 01:04:18.719
But I also understand that elite people were very wanting

1205
01:04:18.760 --> 01:04:21.800
to be very trune with very American American trends.

1206
01:04:21.920 --> 01:04:22.119
Yeah.

1207
01:04:22.239 --> 01:04:25.199
So that's why I'm giving it the benefit of the

1208
01:04:25.280 --> 01:04:27.800
down because I'm like, oh, yeah, that would make sense.

1209
01:04:28.039 --> 01:04:31.199
So if and this was only on a people, elite people,

1210
01:04:31.320 --> 01:04:33.199
so maybe it was a thing, because they even mentioned

1211
01:04:33.239 --> 01:04:37.639
Halloween by name, and I'm like, I don't know, but maybe.

1212
01:04:38.679 --> 01:04:40.360
And so they make a plan to go in disguise,

1213
01:04:40.880 --> 01:04:44.960
and at some point during all this, Carmela or after

1214
01:04:45.039 --> 01:04:48.679
she hins up, Carmela knocks in Antonia's room and asks

1215
01:04:48.800 --> 01:04:52.079
if she has seen Donia Perea's necklace because it was

1216
01:04:52.280 --> 01:04:59.199
uh it had like us Oh sorry, pfore this Antonia

1217
01:04:59.239 --> 01:05:01.480
was asleep and she had an okay, moving on for them.

1218
01:05:01.760 --> 01:05:05.199
Carmela knocks, she's always having nightmares. Also, yes, yeah, she

1219
01:05:05.559 --> 01:05:07.320
just assumes she's having a nightmare.

1220
01:05:08.719 --> 01:05:09.280
One of the two.

1221
01:05:09.920 --> 01:05:12.880
Those are her two stages, uh a sleeper dependent thoughts.

1222
01:05:13.400 --> 01:05:17.920
So Garmela knox and asks Antonia if she has seen

1223
01:05:17.960 --> 01:05:21.519
Dona Pareta's necklace because it was of a svetiva and

1224
01:05:22.519 --> 01:05:24.960
this is an evil entity that Bochika is supposed to

1225
01:05:25.000 --> 01:05:29.079
protect them from. And so when Carmela mentions the spetiva,

1226
01:05:29.800 --> 01:05:33.199
Antonia has a memory of her mom. So I know,

1227
01:05:33.280 --> 01:05:35.400
I can't forget in who Estella was because here she's

1228
01:05:35.480 --> 01:05:37.400
like and then I thought of Estella And why would

1229
01:05:37.400 --> 01:05:39.599
you say that if you're would you be in the

1230
01:05:39.639 --> 01:05:43.880
first name basis with your mom? Yeah, so she has

1231
01:05:43.920 --> 01:05:45.760
a memory of her mom. Her mom will selling her

1232
01:05:45.800 --> 01:05:47.880
that a svetiva can't come into their house or into

1233
01:05:47.920 --> 01:05:50.320
their family, that they're evil and they only come and

1234
01:05:50.400 --> 01:05:52.800
called upon, they need to be summoned, and only bad

1235
01:05:52.840 --> 01:05:56.159
people summon bad things. And she's like, why, Mom, why,

1236
01:05:56.880 --> 01:06:01.000
And then her mom tells her those who summon svetivas

1237
01:06:01.079 --> 01:06:03.800
think that it can do. Sevedia can give them joy,

1238
01:06:03.920 --> 01:06:07.000
good fortune, anything they wanted, but there's a price that pays.

1239
01:06:07.119 --> 01:06:09.320
This I thought of like making a deal with the

1240
01:06:09.440 --> 01:06:11.199
demon basically, like all those stories.

1241
01:06:11.880 --> 01:06:12.000
Uh.

1242
01:06:12.199 --> 01:06:15.280
And then Antonia realizes that Donia Perea did indeed have

1243
01:06:15.360 --> 01:06:18.679
a svetiva necklace. And then Karamela is like, well it

1244
01:06:18.800 --> 01:06:21.519
suits her because she's fucking evil. She's a buck a

1245
01:06:21.599 --> 01:06:26.000
bitch basically. And then Antonia asks Caramela to go see

1246
01:06:26.039 --> 01:06:28.760
her dad in jail because her and Alejandro are leaving.

1247
01:06:29.519 --> 01:06:32.039
And then Caramela is like, oh, speaking of Alejandro, so

1248
01:06:32.119 --> 01:06:34.280
good to see him after all these years. By the way,

1249
01:06:34.519 --> 01:06:37.920
you knew each other as kids until Alejandro's mom died.

1250
01:06:38.280 --> 01:06:40.519
And then she realizes or I don't even think she

1251
01:06:40.639 --> 01:06:44.320
remembers this her by herself yet either. She says Carmela

1252
01:06:44.400 --> 01:06:46.519
they have a plan to get her dad released, but

1253
01:06:46.679 --> 01:06:48.920
doesn't want to tell her. No, it's like theeless, you know,

1254
01:06:49.079 --> 01:06:52.920
the better type of situation. And then Carmela leaves the

1255
01:06:53.039 --> 01:06:56.360
room and Antonia stays here wondering if Tunjos the little

1256
01:06:56.519 --> 01:07:01.480
objects that made Caramela even bring up the vediva necklace

1257
01:07:02.800 --> 01:07:06.480
if douncos hold more than just power, because yeah, she

1258
01:07:06.559 --> 01:07:08.519
was holding one when Carala walked in and the guy

1259
01:07:08.519 --> 01:07:12.199
said that. And then there's another general entry. Basically her

1260
01:07:12.239 --> 01:07:14.800
mom is Madrina if Antonia has light in the darkness,

1261
01:07:15.440 --> 01:07:17.559
which just Lisa Antonia more confused. She's like, what do

1262
01:07:17.639 --> 01:07:19.360
you mean lay in the darkness? And she starts to

1263
01:07:19.440 --> 01:07:22.519
believe she was the one who brought or summoned the svetiva,

1264
01:07:23.320 --> 01:07:25.519
and she remembers the red eyes that have haunted her

1265
01:07:25.679 --> 01:07:29.639
forever now and again recently, and then there's a four

1266
01:07:29.679 --> 01:07:34.400
hour drive. They are at Ensanto de Tekedama and now

1267
01:07:34.480 --> 01:07:40.320
they're Lena and Manuelospina disguise in disguise, and while in

1268
01:07:40.400 --> 01:07:43.599
the party, you know, she's looking around. There's more descriptions,

1269
01:07:43.679 --> 01:07:46.079
but she's looking around and she sees a woman holding

1270
01:07:46.159 --> 01:07:48.679
a baby like doll. But then suddenly the eyes the

1271
01:07:48.760 --> 01:07:51.840
doll's eyes turn red, and then everything smells weird, and

1272
01:07:51.920 --> 01:07:52.480
she shears like.

1273
01:07:52.480 --> 01:07:53.320
Oh, welcome home.

1274
01:07:54.039 --> 01:07:59.360
Thing in her ear again ooh, and then she's like, oh, no,

1275
01:07:59.559 --> 01:08:01.880
I don't know that was. She's all frazzled. She thinks

1276
01:08:02.000 --> 01:08:05.079
of her mom's journals and how the journals said that

1277
01:08:05.159 --> 01:08:09.920
Antonia was losing control of herself. She's all frazzled, and

1278
01:08:10.360 --> 01:08:12.079
Alejandro steps away because she's like, girls, you.

1279
01:08:12.119 --> 01:08:12.800
Need a drink.

1280
01:08:13.800 --> 01:08:16.640
And then while they're they're like waiting, or she's waiting

1281
01:08:16.680 --> 01:08:19.119
for Alejandro, a woman is like, oh, Antonia, Hi, I

1282
01:08:19.159 --> 01:08:23.359
haven't seen it so long. Yeah, She's like, I don't

1283
01:08:23.359 --> 01:08:27.399
know who Antonia is, and she doesn't recognize the woman either,

1284
01:08:27.880 --> 01:08:30.239
so we don't never find out who this is.

1285
01:08:30.279 --> 01:08:32.439
It doesn't matter. It's almost as if this didn't need

1286
01:08:32.479 --> 01:08:35.319
to be in there. The cover was almost blown.

1287
01:08:37.159 --> 01:08:39.520
I feel that we should know that their cover is

1288
01:08:39.560 --> 01:08:43.560
in danger anyway. Yeah, you know whatever, that's just me.

1289
01:08:44.439 --> 01:08:46.600
They talking for her. At some point she tells them

1290
01:08:46.640 --> 01:08:49.039
she can't give them her story because she doesn't remember

1291
01:08:49.199 --> 01:08:51.359
much at all. And I believe this is where we

1292
01:08:51.560 --> 01:08:56.199
really really realize she only has pieces of her memories

1293
01:08:56.479 --> 01:08:58.920
of her time in the house. And then she shows

1294
01:08:59.000 --> 01:09:01.720
him the note that's rat in Cheechba, which he can read,

1295
01:09:02.079 --> 01:09:05.239
and he tells her that it's an ancient prayer like

1296
01:09:05.319 --> 01:09:08.800
a summons, and then she asks how much he knows

1297
01:09:08.800 --> 01:09:12.640
about Spetibas, and he's like, well, they take hold of

1298
01:09:12.720 --> 01:09:15.680
a place or torment one person. They haunt you at

1299
01:09:15.760 --> 01:09:19.319
all times. You're not even safe from them when you're asleep. Uh.

1300
01:09:19.720 --> 01:09:22.199
And then she's like, oh my god, I summoned a spetiba,

1301
01:09:22.800 --> 01:09:26.600
which honestly is one of her more reasonable conclusions to

1302
01:09:26.680 --> 01:09:30.520
jump to. Yeah, and as they're talking, a woman randomly

1303
01:09:30.560 --> 01:09:35.600
recognizes Alejandro, and to get out of this woman talking

1304
01:09:35.640 --> 01:09:38.239
to him, he just pulls Antonia in for a kiss,

1305
01:09:39.159 --> 01:09:42.560
and Dona Perda happened to be around, but she didn't

1306
01:09:42.560 --> 01:09:44.560
see them when all this took place, and she's like,

1307
01:09:44.640 --> 01:09:45.920
oh my god, why did you kiss me?

1308
01:09:46.159 --> 01:09:48.600
Fuck and whatever?

1309
01:09:48.720 --> 01:09:51.239
They talk about stuff, blah blah blah blah blah. She

1310
01:09:51.319 --> 01:09:53.359
tells him that they have to get the rest of

1311
01:09:53.359 --> 01:09:56.439
the journal entries, that's where the answers are, which I

1312
01:09:56.479 --> 01:09:59.720
thought she had already told them about whatever. At some point,

1313
01:09:59.760 --> 01:10:02.560
they're dancing together, and then suddenly the room changes and

1314
01:10:02.640 --> 01:10:05.520
she sees the creature with a bloody scythe and blood everywhere,

1315
01:10:05.560 --> 01:10:08.399
and she lets out a little scream. Suddenly she's by

1316
01:10:08.439 --> 01:10:12.039
herself and she's running, and then Alejandro is there again,

1317
01:10:12.239 --> 01:10:14.439
and he's like, are you okay? Where are you going,

1318
01:10:16.600 --> 01:10:18.560
and she's like, I saw a thing and he didn't

1319
01:10:18.560 --> 01:10:21.560
see it. And she remembers that she used to see

1320
01:10:21.600 --> 01:10:23.239
things like that all the time in the house, and

1321
01:10:23.319 --> 01:10:27.239
she's deeper thoughts again, and then Alejandro is like, hey, hey,

1322
01:10:27.920 --> 01:10:31.920
earth to Antonia, and he tells her that Dona Perea

1323
01:10:32.079 --> 01:10:34.640
left the ballroom and that the plan or his plan

1324
01:10:34.800 --> 01:10:36.880
is on. He pulls out a knife from his pocket,

1325
01:10:36.920 --> 01:10:39.960
which is carved in moistcat carvings, and he's like, oh, yeah,

1326
01:10:40.039 --> 01:10:42.119
this is a copycat version of the murder weapon. By

1327
01:10:42.159 --> 01:10:44.399
the way, I took a picture and then I made

1328
01:10:44.399 --> 01:10:48.720
a duplicate and then there. I still I'm not sure

1329
01:10:48.760 --> 01:10:52.720
what his plan was with that. He does explain his plan, Yeah,

1330
01:10:54.319 --> 01:10:58.880
something about placing it somewhere they would pretend that this

1331
01:10:59.000 --> 01:11:00.800
is the murder work some ship.

1332
01:11:01.800 --> 01:11:02.000
Yeah.

1333
01:11:02.840 --> 01:11:05.920
So they're walking to the courtyard and then they see

1334
01:11:05.960 --> 01:11:09.760
a dozen people dressed in black with black candles around

1335
01:11:09.800 --> 01:11:16.319
them and black pointy hoods. Oh yeah, cold cold, and

1336
01:11:17.079 --> 01:11:19.600
they're chanting, of course, and I was like, oh, we

1337
01:11:19.720 --> 01:11:24.439
have a cold baby. Were you suspecting this that there

1338
01:11:24.560 --> 01:11:27.039
was going to be a cool Yeah? No, I was

1339
01:11:27.159 --> 01:11:31.039
just like either, it was a nice surprise yeah, I

1340
01:11:31.399 --> 01:11:34.680
like that it was just going to be a normal hunting. Oh,

1341
01:11:35.520 --> 01:11:39.079
but yeah, the cold brought in interest that we really needed.

1342
01:11:39.199 --> 01:11:43.680
So and so they're watching there was taking pictures. I'm

1343
01:11:43.720 --> 01:11:46.079
guessing I don't remember, but yeah he was. He has

1344
01:11:46.119 --> 01:11:48.560
to be right because they have evidence later. So yeah,

1345
01:11:49.239 --> 01:11:52.399
they see Don Pira of all people, chanting something in

1346
01:11:52.520 --> 01:11:56.000
Chiapa and the only word that Antonia recognizes is vetiva.

1347
01:11:56.800 --> 01:12:00.079
And then they see then swinging the blade which.

1348
01:12:00.199 --> 01:12:05.359
Cut through someone's neck. Oh, she like beheaded someone.

1349
01:12:06.600 --> 01:12:09.199
Then they watched the colt leave and they realized that

1350
01:12:10.000 --> 01:12:12.239
they were the ones who murdered that man, not her dad,

1351
01:12:12.880 --> 01:12:17.760
and now this cult is framing her dad. She wants

1352
01:12:17.800 --> 01:12:19.279
to go to the police, but he's like, no, we

1353
01:12:19.319 --> 01:12:21.199
need to stick to the plan. Then hear a scream

1354
01:12:21.239 --> 01:12:23.960
and they rush back inside, but everything looks normal and

1355
01:12:24.119 --> 01:12:26.760
Dona Pieda is not in the ballroom, but then they

1356
01:12:26.840 --> 01:12:31.239
see her with Badri Juan and she tells that they

1357
01:12:31.239 --> 01:12:34.399
need to leave before they're recognized by one of them,

1358
01:12:35.000 --> 01:12:37.319
and they go to her old room on the fourth floor,

1359
01:12:38.760 --> 01:12:41.079
and they just kill time in her old room because

1360
01:12:41.119 --> 01:12:43.359
they want Dona Peda to be gone from the party.

1361
01:12:43.600 --> 01:12:45.520
So they can sneak back down to look through the

1362
01:12:45.600 --> 01:12:48.960
mom's stuff to find more journal injuries, and so in

1363
01:12:49.039 --> 01:12:51.479
her room she finds her old dollhouse. She's looking through it,

1364
01:12:51.600 --> 01:12:54.439
she finds another journal entry. In this one, her mom

1365
01:12:54.640 --> 01:12:56.800
wrote that the gatherings are getting out of control and

1366
01:12:56.880 --> 01:12:59.880
there's a sense of distrust now and something about the

1367
01:12:59.880 --> 01:13:03.319
sh sheep escaping with the fox, and first she's like

1368
01:13:03.560 --> 01:13:06.239
too confused about this, and then she eventually realizes that

1369
01:13:06.479 --> 01:13:09.800
it's doing Pareda is the fox, but it takes her

1370
01:13:09.840 --> 01:13:12.520
a little too long to get there, and then at

1371
01:13:12.560 --> 01:13:14.279
some point they fall asleep, I don't know. The phone

1372
01:13:14.359 --> 01:13:16.880
rings and it's Carmela who tells her Leon stop by

1373
01:13:16.960 --> 01:13:20.159
looking for her and that she has a feeling Loan

1374
01:13:20.279 --> 01:13:22.279
is going to the hotel now because she wasn't at

1375
01:13:22.279 --> 01:13:28.079
her house. Antonia wasn't at our house, and Caramela wants

1376
01:13:28.119 --> 01:13:30.439
them to leave so that they're not found by Leon,

1377
01:13:30.800 --> 01:13:34.239
but she Antonio's Carmela, Nope, we can't leave, and she

1378
01:13:34.319 --> 01:13:38.439
hangs up and whatever she wants, very much like her

1379
01:13:38.520 --> 01:13:42.439
father earlier when he's like, I can't leave yet. Then

1380
01:13:42.479 --> 01:13:44.640
they make their way to the room with her mom

1381
01:13:44.760 --> 01:13:47.479
stuff on the way there. She hears people calling her,

1382
01:13:47.560 --> 01:13:51.319
but she keeps on walking, and then suddenly Alejandro is

1383
01:13:51.399 --> 01:13:54.159
nowhere near her. She tries to run, and she hears

1384
01:13:54.239 --> 01:13:56.399
her name three times, like no, no, no, no, no no,

1385
01:13:57.159 --> 01:13:59.079
and she's like, was that my mom's voice? And she's

1386
01:13:59.119 --> 01:14:01.800
like no, and then she's back in reality. Alejandro's shaking

1387
01:14:01.880 --> 01:14:05.159
her and asking her, hey, what happened. And then this

1388
01:14:05.399 --> 01:14:07.239
is a little bit of back and forth where she's

1389
01:14:07.279 --> 01:14:09.640
there and she's not there, and so she finally comes

1390
01:14:09.720 --> 01:14:13.279
to and they're taking the elevator down to her mom's sanctuary.

1391
01:14:14.640 --> 01:14:17.159
Down there, it's basically untouched. It was left the same.

1392
01:14:17.720 --> 01:14:21.159
They see tunkos, those little figures, and then Alexandra's like, well,

1393
01:14:21.199 --> 01:14:25.159
these aren't just figures. They have ritualistic purposes. And then

1394
01:14:25.199 --> 01:14:28.159
he tells her that he's not sure. He wasn't sure before,

1395
01:14:28.560 --> 01:14:31.560
but he is now after seeing these figures, and he

1396
01:14:31.680 --> 01:14:33.800
tells her, your mom was the leader of a cult

1397
01:14:33.880 --> 01:14:39.239
called Lasika's Debochica. They considered themselves protectors of Alisalto, and

1398
01:14:39.279 --> 01:14:41.520
it was their duty to protect it from those who corrupted,

1399
01:14:41.560 --> 01:14:45.000
who wanted to corrupt the land. And this place you

1400
01:14:45.079 --> 01:14:51.359
call your mom sanctuary was where they met, and his

1401
01:14:51.479 --> 01:14:53.720
own mom was a member of this cult before she

1402
01:14:53.840 --> 01:14:58.279
passed away, and that before her mom took over as

1403
01:14:58.399 --> 01:15:01.279
leader of the cult, it was led by her Antonia's

1404
01:15:01.279 --> 01:15:04.600
grandmother and Donia perieda together. But then when her grandmother

1405
01:15:04.640 --> 01:15:08.000
passed away, her mom was voided as the cult leader

1406
01:15:08.119 --> 01:15:13.840
instead of Donia Parida because she's younger, and her having

1407
01:15:13.920 --> 01:15:16.840
become the leader of the cult is the whole reason

1408
01:15:16.960 --> 01:15:19.560
her father built the mansion here in the first place,

1409
01:15:21.800 --> 01:15:25.960
and that Antonia herself is supposed to be next in line.

1410
01:15:26.159 --> 01:15:27.920
And Antonia is like, I don't want anything to do

1411
01:15:28.000 --> 01:15:28.479
with this place.

1412
01:15:28.520 --> 01:15:30.239
I hated living here. It was a nightmare.

1413
01:15:33.720 --> 01:15:36.319
And yeah, then they're grabbing books. She finds another entry

1414
01:15:36.439 --> 01:15:39.520
which makes her emotional. It says something about her I

1415
01:15:39.880 --> 01:15:40.640
didn't write this down.

1416
01:15:40.640 --> 01:15:43.399
I don't know why. I'm sorry.

1417
01:15:45.560 --> 01:15:47.439
And then they find a picture of all the women

1418
01:15:47.560 --> 01:15:52.119
in the cult and all of them are dead except Dona.

1419
01:15:53.640 --> 01:15:53.840
Yes.

1420
01:15:55.560 --> 01:15:57.800
And then there's another deral entry, and in this one,

1421
01:15:58.000 --> 01:16:00.319
Estella wrote about losing all of her at my lass

1422
01:16:00.479 --> 01:16:02.760
and that she needs to figure out how to stop

1423
01:16:02.800 --> 01:16:03.880
it before it comes for her.

1424
01:16:04.359 --> 01:16:06.560
She asks but Chica for help.

1425
01:16:06.680 --> 01:16:11.359
In that journal entry, and Antonia realizes that the it

1426
01:16:11.640 --> 01:16:14.319
that her mom is referring to is the Vettiva summoned

1427
01:16:14.359 --> 01:16:17.920
by Don Pear, and that that's what pushed your mom,

1428
01:16:18.439 --> 01:16:20.920
the vettiva, and it also killed the rest of the

1429
01:16:22.000 --> 01:16:30.720
Chica and her and Lejandra decided they need to go

1430
01:16:30.840 --> 01:16:34.760
find evidence of this, and they head for the water

1431
01:16:35.039 --> 01:16:39.960
which is known as the La Mortos. I guess that's

1432
01:16:40.039 --> 01:16:42.880
where they put all the people they kill. I don't know,

1433
01:16:44.920 --> 01:16:45.279
I don't know.

1434
01:16:46.000 --> 01:16:49.600
And as they're walking, she hears her name again, No Nona, Nona, Nona,

1435
01:16:49.840 --> 01:16:52.039
We'll come home, and.

1436
01:16:52.119 --> 01:16:55.119
She tries to run again and Alejandro stops her and

1437
01:16:55.560 --> 01:16:59.279
she's like, something's here with us watching and he's like okay,

1438
01:17:00.760 --> 01:17:04.399
scared and they keep going and then suddenly Alejandro is

1439
01:17:04.399 --> 01:17:06.359
the one in the trans not for her. Well now

1440
01:17:06.439 --> 01:17:09.319
you know what it feels like, and she's begging him

1441
01:17:09.359 --> 01:17:12.479
to wake up, and she hears Nona, Nona, Nona again

1442
01:17:13.039 --> 01:17:14.239
and it's the Sveetiba.

1443
01:17:14.760 --> 01:17:17.359
This part was actually like kind of creepy. It was.

1444
01:17:17.840 --> 01:17:21.840
It's moving closer until it snatches her hand with this

1445
01:17:22.159 --> 01:17:28.319
clammy skin and it tells her that it's there for her,

1446
01:17:28.479 --> 01:17:31.960
and she's like no, no, don't get away, and then

1447
01:17:32.039 --> 01:17:35.199
it's pitch black. She wakes up and sees her mom,

1448
01:17:35.880 --> 01:17:40.359
I don't know where, and her mom tells her that

1449
01:17:40.720 --> 01:17:43.680
she Antonia has no idea what it means to be

1450
01:17:43.760 --> 01:17:46.319
together again, but that she can't stay. You know that

1451
01:17:46.439 --> 01:17:49.359
typical trope of like so when someone's like in the

1452
01:17:49.399 --> 01:17:51.479
middle of dying in a hospital and then the person

1453
01:17:51.560 --> 01:17:53.680
they see is like, you can't see you. You have

1454
01:17:53.760 --> 01:17:55.159
to choose if you're gonna stay or leave.

1455
01:17:55.239 --> 01:17:56.359
But I want you to leave.

1456
01:17:56.479 --> 01:17:58.720
You can't stay here. It's not your time yet that

1457
01:17:59.560 --> 01:18:02.560
Antonia again not listening. It's like, well, I'm not leaving

1458
01:18:02.640 --> 01:18:06.159
until you tell me what happened, But no, I get

1459
01:18:06.199 --> 01:18:08.039
it her. This is her chance to learn from her

1460
01:18:08.079 --> 01:18:11.920
own mom what was happening. So her mom told her

1461
01:18:12.000 --> 01:18:15.479
that evil played the land and that she was a

1462
01:18:15.600 --> 01:18:19.479
fool to think that she could protect it, and that

1463
01:18:20.760 --> 01:18:24.840
by the end, it felt so powerful for her to

1464
01:18:24.960 --> 01:18:28.720
be the leader of this culte that it was like intoxicating,

1465
01:18:28.840 --> 01:18:31.439
like she she had been overtaken by the power and

1466
01:18:31.960 --> 01:18:36.800
the power yeah instead of worrying about just protecting the land.

1467
01:18:37.800 --> 01:18:40.800
And then that Dounia Peda summoned the Svetiva and then

1468
01:18:40.840 --> 01:18:42.800
by then, by then it was too late, not even

1469
01:18:42.880 --> 01:18:47.439
Bochica could help them save them, and that she was

1470
01:18:47.479 --> 01:18:49.840
so happy when her and her dad got away, but

1471
01:18:50.000 --> 01:18:52.439
then they returned and she's like, what are you guys

1472
01:18:52.479 --> 01:18:55.560
doing here? But apparently this was Dona Verda's duane, that

1473
01:18:55.680 --> 01:18:59.039
she messed with Herta, messed with her dad's mind and

1474
01:18:59.199 --> 01:18:59.760
forced him.

1475
01:18:59.640 --> 01:19:03.319
To reach into the house, and that she.

1476
01:19:05.000 --> 01:19:06.720
Estella thought the only way to get rid of the

1477
01:19:06.760 --> 01:19:11.159
spativa was to die, but it didn't work, and then

1478
01:19:11.199 --> 01:19:13.039
Antonia's like, well, how can we get rid of it?

1479
01:19:13.159 --> 01:19:15.319
And it still I was like you can't. Only the

1480
01:19:15.319 --> 01:19:17.439
person who's somebody can get rid of it. And then

1481
01:19:17.479 --> 01:19:21.359
they tell each other goodbye, and Antonie comes to and

1482
01:19:21.439 --> 01:19:24.239
then she shakes Alejandro, begging him to wake up. He's

1483
01:19:24.319 --> 01:19:26.880
not waking up, and then he finally does, and then

1484
01:19:26.960 --> 01:19:29.920
he asked what happened and she's like, it was Salto

1485
01:19:30.000 --> 01:19:32.279
and Santo did all this. We need to get this

1486
01:19:32.359 --> 01:19:34.439
hotel shut down or people are going to keep dying.

1487
01:19:35.119 --> 01:19:37.479
And then they drag themselves to a house that's not

1488
01:19:37.640 --> 01:19:42.319
too far from Mensalto. A woman named Rosalia opens the door.

1489
01:19:42.680 --> 01:19:44.800
This is kind of where I was like, really all right,

1490
01:19:46.520 --> 01:19:49.840
but he had this This was his plan, because his

1491
01:19:49.960 --> 01:19:54.079
plan was to find evidence for his journalism or whatever,

1492
01:19:54.880 --> 01:19:58.119
for the story about the rich people being in the cult.

1493
01:19:59.279 --> 01:20:01.119
That's right. He had been found. He knew there was

1494
01:20:01.119 --> 01:20:02.560
a cult, and he was already in.

1495
01:20:02.560 --> 01:20:06.520
Communication with Rosalia about this, so she was like expecting them.

1496
01:20:08.560 --> 01:20:09.399
You're right, you're right.

1497
01:20:11.239 --> 01:20:15.039
She's another reporter. And Alexandra tells Antonia like, hey, we

1498
01:20:15.119 --> 01:20:18.800
can trust her. And then from there anton Carmela and

1499
01:20:18.960 --> 01:20:22.039
she's like, hey, we're okay. And while she's on the phone,

1500
01:20:22.039 --> 01:20:26.239
Alexandro updates Rosalia, who then agrees to report all of

1501
01:20:26.359 --> 01:20:28.880
this and drive them to the city, and then they

1502
01:20:28.920 --> 01:20:32.159
get back to Antonia's place. He stays here with Antonia

1503
01:20:32.720 --> 01:20:34.960
and he's like, don't worry, Rosalia, We'll make sure this

1504
01:20:35.039 --> 01:20:37.640
story gets out. I'm not leaving you alone ever again.

1505
01:20:37.720 --> 01:20:43.359
And then they kiss again, but this time like consensually. Yeah,

1506
01:20:44.760 --> 01:20:45.720
like they're both consenting.

1507
01:20:45.960 --> 01:20:46.159
Yeah.

1508
01:20:46.840 --> 01:20:49.159
They walk inside the house and Mela's like, wow, you

1509
01:20:49.199 --> 01:20:52.640
guys look like shit, Well like you look like hell,

1510
01:20:52.720 --> 01:20:55.159
that's what she says, actually, uh, and then she's like

1511
01:20:55.399 --> 01:20:55.920
what happened?

1512
01:20:56.000 --> 01:20:56.640
Tell me everything?

1513
01:20:56.800 --> 01:20:59.840
And then she tells him alone seems scared when he

1514
01:21:00.039 --> 01:21:03.199
I'm looking for Antonia and they tell her everything. Later

1515
01:21:03.479 --> 01:21:06.279
a Metal drives them to like I said that the

1516
01:21:06.359 --> 01:21:09.760
newspaper that is gonna report this story and they're gonna

1517
01:21:09.760 --> 01:21:12.279
meet there with Rosalia. She gives back the pictures that

1518
01:21:12.359 --> 01:21:14.680
I Handro gave her and they realized that Pada Juan

1519
01:21:14.840 --> 01:21:16.880
is in the picture, so he's another member of the school.

1520
01:21:17.239 --> 01:21:19.039
And then Rosalia is like, yeah, we're really seeing a

1521
01:21:19.079 --> 01:21:22.079
special edition at the paper this very afternoon.

1522
01:21:22.159 --> 01:21:23.279
This is going to be a big story.

1523
01:21:24.399 --> 01:21:26.000
Then a Handro was like, all right, let's go to

1524
01:21:26.079 --> 01:21:28.079
the police, Antonia, you need to go see your dad.

1525
01:21:28.119 --> 01:21:31.960
But Antonia again doesn't listen, and she's like nope, I'm

1526
01:21:32.000 --> 01:21:35.119
going with you to the police. And then they're at

1527
01:21:35.119 --> 01:21:39.079
the police station and the police doesn't they don't want

1528
01:21:39.119 --> 01:21:41.600
to like listen, and then she threatens to go to

1529
01:21:41.680 --> 01:21:43.479
the press. But I'm like, okay, but the press is

1530
01:21:43.520 --> 01:21:44.479
already getting the story.

1531
01:21:44.720 --> 01:21:48.399
I don't know what that that like. I don't know.

1532
01:21:50.359 --> 01:21:52.359
The press already has a story to me in my

1533
01:21:52.479 --> 01:21:57.560
hand but whatever isn't Yeah, but she tells the police

1534
01:21:57.880 --> 01:21:59.800
like let me see my dad or I'm going to

1535
01:21:59.840 --> 01:22:02.319
the press. Oh, but maybe going to the press about

1536
01:22:02.319 --> 01:22:05.319
them not letting her see her dad. Okay, maybe, yeah,

1537
01:22:06.119 --> 01:22:09.000
I think that's what she meant. And then they signed

1538
01:22:09.039 --> 01:22:11.760
to Carlo's release and they're like okay, but he still

1539
01:22:11.760 --> 01:22:15.159
has to go to trial. And then police and detectives

1540
01:22:15.199 --> 01:22:19.840
head to the hotel and they went to her dad.

1541
01:22:20.039 --> 01:22:23.399
She understands that he was innocent. They tell him it

1542
01:22:23.479 --> 01:22:28.159
was all Dogna Pareida's doing and that everyone was in

1543
01:22:28.279 --> 01:22:30.840
her cold, including her son, like she just has a

1544
01:22:30.880 --> 01:22:34.119
lot of power in this town. And then they're back

1545
01:22:34.199 --> 01:22:36.920
at her house and she's looking through this book called

1546
01:22:37.039 --> 01:22:39.760
Evil in the Times of Buchika, which is very convenient

1547
01:22:39.800 --> 01:22:44.960
to have, and she's looking for clues and she is

1548
01:22:45.039 --> 01:22:48.680
reading this book and she sees like something handwritten in

1549
01:22:48.840 --> 01:22:51.079
someone else's hand ready, not her own, not her mom's.

1550
01:22:51.239 --> 01:22:54.319
She assumes is paida because the sentence sas the house

1551
01:22:54.439 --> 01:22:56.359
must stand, like this will only work if the house

1552
01:22:56.399 --> 01:22:58.800
is still there, and so she's like, well, I need

1553
01:22:58.880 --> 01:23:01.119
to destroy the house. The house else cannot stand anymore,

1554
01:23:01.239 --> 01:23:04.159
is what she realizes. And for some reason, she then

1555
01:23:04.239 --> 01:23:08.039
goes back to the Catholic school and she tells off madrequids.

1556
01:23:09.079 --> 01:23:14.720
Oh this is just her, her badass feminist journey journey.

1557
01:23:14.840 --> 01:23:15.479
Yeah yeah.

1558
01:23:16.239 --> 01:23:18.520
And then it's been a few days, her dad is free.

1559
01:23:18.600 --> 01:23:21.239
Now Dona Peda is on the run, but they haven't

1560
01:23:21.239 --> 01:23:25.560
found her. Then she gets a call from Lucia, Leon's wife,

1561
01:23:26.319 --> 01:23:28.399
who begs them for help because Leon has that been

1562
01:23:28.479 --> 01:23:31.640
himself since all this went down. And then she calls

1563
01:23:31.640 --> 01:23:34.359
it Lejandro and they go see Leon together, who's looking rough.

1564
01:23:34.680 --> 01:23:37.600
He's gaunt and emitiated. How do you say that word?

1565
01:23:39.199 --> 01:23:39.520
Okay?

1566
01:23:40.359 --> 01:23:44.079
And they ponder why he's in its condition, but they

1567
01:23:44.119 --> 01:23:45.960
imagine that it has to do with don Pieda and

1568
01:23:46.079 --> 01:23:48.119
just has that is happening? Leon is like, it's mother,

1569
01:23:48.279 --> 01:23:52.039
it's mother, and he doesn't know where she is, neither

1570
01:23:52.079 --> 01:23:54.399
does Lucia, and they're like, let's use the situation to

1571
01:23:54.520 --> 01:23:57.199
lure her back. And I'm not entirely sure how this takes,

1572
01:23:57.359 --> 01:23:59.359
how this happens. Lucia goes to make a phone call

1573
01:23:59.439 --> 01:24:01.840
to someone. I don't I wasn't paying attention anymore.

1574
01:24:03.039 --> 01:24:03.520
Lucian.

1575
01:24:04.199 --> 01:24:08.439
Yeah, Lucia makes a phone call, did you call Donia

1576
01:24:08.479 --> 01:24:09.239
Peda to come?

1577
01:24:09.600 --> 01:24:12.399
But they don't know where Lona Pareda is. I thought that,

1578
01:24:12.560 --> 01:24:15.439
so she was calling. I don't know she's calling someone

1579
01:24:15.600 --> 01:24:18.039
to say Loan is not doing good. I think she's

1580
01:24:18.079 --> 01:24:18.960
calling Panina.

1581
01:24:19.159 --> 01:24:21.760
But but they don't know where Loa Parida is. Isn't

1582
01:24:21.760 --> 01:24:24.119
that what she shows up though she does show up.

1583
01:24:24.560 --> 01:24:25.479
Maybe it is, I don't know.

1584
01:24:28.000 --> 01:24:30.319
Maybe it is, yeah, because yeah, they're going to use

1585
01:24:30.319 --> 01:24:32.399
the situation to lure her back, and then bam, there

1586
01:24:32.479 --> 01:24:36.600
she is back some hours past whatever. And then there's

1587
01:24:36.680 --> 01:24:39.359
back and forth between them, and Tonia is like, yeah,

1588
01:24:39.439 --> 01:24:42.520
we know you killed all of La and all those

1589
01:24:42.560 --> 01:24:46.520
people at and then Dona is like, okay, and I

1590
01:24:46.560 --> 01:24:49.560
didn't do anything to Leon. It's the fetiva that's taking

1591
01:24:49.600 --> 01:24:55.159
hold of him because he's a weakling man her own son, ma'am,

1592
01:24:55.239 --> 01:24:58.840
that's your son. That's crazy. And then she's like and

1593
01:24:58.960 --> 01:25:02.199
if it hadn't been for you're meddling kids, everything would

1594
01:25:02.199 --> 01:25:05.000
have gone according to plan. And then the police get

1595
01:25:05.039 --> 01:25:08.920
there and Diana Pada is like shocked, and I'm like, really, Dona, data,

1596
01:25:08.920 --> 01:25:11.760
I don't think they were gonna like, yeah, have you arrested?

1597
01:25:11.920 --> 01:25:13.479
I don't, I don't know.

1598
01:25:14.560 --> 01:25:16.239
And yeah, she's like if it wasn't for you and

1599
01:25:16.319 --> 01:25:17.560
your dog or whatever.

1600
01:25:18.479 --> 01:25:19.079
Like Scooby Doo.

1601
01:25:19.600 --> 01:25:24.800
Yeah, I got that, okay, And then we have a

1602
01:25:24.880 --> 01:25:27.600
journal entry, and this time it's stated in nineteen thirty

1603
01:25:27.640 --> 01:25:30.840
six and it's Antonia who wrote it. She returned to

1604
01:25:30.880 --> 01:25:33.840
Octle to burn down the hotel and finally get rid

1605
01:25:33.880 --> 01:25:35.720
of the Svetiva and let the.

1606
01:25:35.800 --> 01:25:45.399
Land just be the end. All right, we made it

1607
01:25:45.479 --> 01:25:49.079
to the end. I felt like I was never gonna

1608
01:25:49.079 --> 01:25:52.640
get there. Yeah, I well, yeah, I.

1609
01:25:52.640 --> 01:25:55.319
Guess before get into the questions, is there anything you

1610
01:25:55.359 --> 01:25:57.479
want to say about the booker? We get into the questions. No,

1611
01:25:57.600 --> 01:25:59.159
let's answer the question, all right.

1612
01:26:00.239 --> 01:26:00.840
Question one?

1613
01:26:02.279 --> 01:26:05.399
Oh, before I add we sent these questions out and

1614
01:26:05.479 --> 01:26:07.760
then I made a story like it's only one. I

1615
01:26:07.840 --> 01:26:09.800
have like thoughts if they read this book, But most

1616
01:26:09.840 --> 01:26:12.920
of the replies I got were people waiting for the

1617
01:26:12.960 --> 01:26:17.239
episode to see if they should read it. I don't

1618
01:26:17.319 --> 01:26:20.079
know what people will decide after this.

1619
01:26:20.479 --> 01:26:20.680
Yeah.

1620
01:26:22.359 --> 01:26:25.880
Well, how did the setting and atmosphere the book affect

1621
01:26:25.920 --> 01:26:28.520
the mood and tone of the story. Did it create

1622
01:26:28.560 --> 01:26:31.119
a sense of danger, mystery, dread or unease?

1623
01:26:32.079 --> 01:26:33.800
And I will say that yes, the.

1624
01:26:33.920 --> 01:26:37.520
Atmosphere and the description of the house, the waterfall, it

1625
01:26:37.600 --> 01:26:41.920
was very moody. Yeah, very Gothic and it did definitely

1626
01:26:42.039 --> 01:26:46.359
set the tone, you know, to be like a dreadful feeling,

1627
01:26:48.199 --> 01:26:53.399
especially when she's actually being haunted. Right, But I like

1628
01:26:53.520 --> 01:26:56.359
the Yeah, the setting, atmosphere, descriptions.

1629
01:26:56.920 --> 01:26:57.399
I agree.

1630
01:26:57.520 --> 01:27:00.600
Like I said earlier, the setting was really everything holding

1631
01:27:01.119 --> 01:27:05.279
me together during this read. Yeah, yeah, it made me

1632
01:27:05.359 --> 01:27:08.199
want to visit the place too. I already wanted to

1633
01:27:08.279 --> 01:27:10.920
visit the place, but yes, yeah, I agree, And yeah,

1634
01:27:11.079 --> 01:27:14.680
the setting was everything. It is what gave the book

1635
01:27:14.720 --> 01:27:17.520
a sense of the moments, The moments of dread and

1636
01:27:17.640 --> 01:27:21.640
uneys that existed existed because of the house. So yeah, Okay,

1637
01:27:21.760 --> 01:27:24.800
the next one, how did the author generate suspense intentions? Wait,

1638
01:27:24.880 --> 01:27:28.039
let me say I guess before. These are generic book

1639
01:27:28.359 --> 01:27:31.399
club discussion questions. I could not think of my own

1640
01:27:31.479 --> 01:27:35.680
this time. How did the author generate suspense intention throughout

1641
01:27:35.720 --> 01:27:38.279
the book? How did they initially draw you in? What

1642
01:27:38.479 --> 01:27:41.359
techniques they used to keep you hooked and on edge?

1643
01:27:43.000 --> 01:27:47.000
I feel that it was again the house. The descriptions

1644
01:27:47.159 --> 01:27:50.399
of the house is really what drew me in. Again,

1645
01:27:50.600 --> 01:27:54.840
it is what created the tension, like those moments being

1646
01:27:54.920 --> 01:27:58.640
there and then like her remembering her past. I do

1647
01:27:59.000 --> 01:28:02.840
wish we we got to know what those moments in

1648
01:28:02.920 --> 01:28:05.239
the past that scared her so much because instead of

1649
01:28:05.359 --> 01:28:09.640
like really feeling it, it was more like and then

1650
01:28:09.720 --> 01:28:12.000
when I was a kid in that house, I saw

1651
01:28:12.079 --> 01:28:14.359
red eyes and my mom told me that though it

1652
01:28:14.479 --> 01:28:19.640
wasn't real, but it was. Yeah, I would do the same.

1653
01:28:19.680 --> 01:28:21.600
And I also say that the.

1654
01:28:21.880 --> 01:28:27.279
Little moments of the hauntings reiled me back in when

1655
01:28:27.319 --> 01:28:29.880
I was starting to you know, be like, oh my gosh,

1656
01:28:29.880 --> 01:28:33.600
shut up already about her class mostly and then you know,

1657
01:28:33.720 --> 01:28:35.840
yet when she would like when she was at the

1658
01:28:35.880 --> 01:28:38.119
party and then all of a sudden dragged out of

1659
01:28:38.199 --> 01:28:41.239
the party, like mentally, it seemed, and then she you

1660
01:28:41.279 --> 01:28:44.680
know whatever, she was haunted when she saw the glowing eyes,

1661
01:28:44.720 --> 01:28:47.680
when she saw the vitia, things like that, when they

1662
01:28:47.720 --> 01:28:50.439
were at the party, uh oh, when they were when

1663
01:28:50.479 --> 01:28:52.720
they went off to the waterfall, and then Leandro was.

1664
01:28:54.960 --> 01:28:55.720
In a trance.

1665
01:28:55.960 --> 01:29:00.239
Like those scenes of the scary moments kept me can

1666
01:29:00.279 --> 01:29:03.600
be hooked. And also the twist with the cult, yeah,

1667
01:29:03.760 --> 01:29:09.000
same same. What did you think of Antonia? Did she

1668
01:29:09.159 --> 01:29:14.119
make any decisions that you didn't agree with? Okay, at first,

1669
01:29:14.359 --> 01:29:16.640
I was like, I can't stand her. You were the

1670
01:29:16.800 --> 01:29:21.039
biggest hater I was the biggest hater. But then after

1671
01:29:21.760 --> 01:29:25.920
going through the recap discussing right now here irl with you,

1672
01:29:26.920 --> 01:29:31.239
I was like, you know what, No, I understand her more,

1673
01:29:31.840 --> 01:29:34.439
and I am a little more okay with her, because, yeah,

1674
01:29:34.560 --> 01:29:37.760
you know what, she was being haunted. Her mom didn't

1675
01:29:37.800 --> 01:29:42.000
die that long ago. Yeah, and already she because of

1676
01:29:42.119 --> 01:29:46.199
her trauma, is an anxious person, and yeah, she's gonna

1677
01:29:46.239 --> 01:29:49.399
overtheek things. Did I need to know that all the

1678
01:29:49.479 --> 01:29:53.800
things she was overthinking? No, I honestly didn't. We could

1679
01:29:53.840 --> 01:29:56.920
have used the less thinking, less thoughts of hers, but

1680
01:29:58.039 --> 01:30:01.279
she wasn't like horrible. Oh No, At first I thought

1681
01:30:01.319 --> 01:30:04.399
she was horrible, but I understand now, I understand her more,

1682
01:30:04.520 --> 01:30:06.279
and I'm like, you know what, No, she was who

1683
01:30:06.359 --> 01:30:12.960
she needed to be, and I personally don't. I can't

1684
01:30:13.000 --> 01:30:17.000
get behind her suddenly blaming her dad. Yeah, that was

1685
01:30:17.039 --> 01:30:19.399
something that I didn't agree with her because it's like

1686
01:30:19.920 --> 01:30:21.960
she was very hit and miss with it. And then

1687
01:30:22.079 --> 01:30:24.199
when she all of a sudden came to that conclusion,

1688
01:30:25.159 --> 01:30:29.800
it just seemed like out of nowhere. Yes, yes, So

1689
01:30:29.880 --> 01:30:32.319
that was the biggest thing. I didn't agree with her

1690
01:30:32.399 --> 01:30:35.279
on everything else. I'm like, no, it made sense even

1691
01:30:35.279 --> 01:30:43.520
though I got on my nervous at first. Yeah, were

1692
01:30:43.560 --> 01:30:45.920
you satisfied with the book's outcome or did you have

1693
01:30:45.920 --> 01:30:50.239
any questions or doubts left unanswered? It just kind of

1694
01:30:50.279 --> 01:30:53.680
felt like the ending is just like there because something

1695
01:30:53.760 --> 01:30:56.760
needed to happen, like it needed to be ended, and

1696
01:30:56.880 --> 01:30:58.039
that's like, all right, here you go.

1697
01:30:58.279 --> 01:31:02.560
I guess they this journalist.

1698
01:31:03.680 --> 01:31:06.920
Who I don't know where is here because she believes

1699
01:31:07.000 --> 01:31:09.399
adahndro On is going to help him. She's gonna believe

1700
01:31:09.479 --> 01:31:13.880
this news, and everybody just believed this news. Anda suddenly

1701
01:31:13.920 --> 01:31:16.640
agrees to come back for her weak leing of a

1702
01:31:16.720 --> 01:31:20.640
son that she apparently doesn't like, doesn't even like writing,

1703
01:31:21.640 --> 01:31:24.239
and she's going to come back for that, and everyone's

1704
01:31:24.319 --> 01:31:26.479
going to be ready to arrest her on the spot.

1705
01:31:26.960 --> 01:31:30.199
So that was a little too I don't know, wrapped

1706
01:31:30.279 --> 01:31:33.319
up in a tidy bow. Yeah. Yeah.

1707
01:31:33.560 --> 01:31:35.479
And then at the same time, though there was still

1708
01:31:36.479 --> 01:31:39.560
I'm like, all right, well, I I feel like I

1709
01:31:39.600 --> 01:31:42.399
would have wanted, like you said, to get more about

1710
01:31:42.760 --> 01:31:47.079
her being haunted as a child in that house, and

1711
01:31:47.239 --> 01:31:48.960
I would have wanted to get a little bit more

1712
01:31:49.000 --> 01:31:54.039
about the lore of uh Bochica, the Muiskas like I

1713
01:31:54.079 --> 01:31:56.039
feel like we got pieces here and there, like whenever

1714
01:31:56.159 --> 01:32:00.199
she was talking recollecting her conversations with her mom. But

1715
01:32:01.560 --> 01:32:03.119
I don't know, I think we could have had a

1716
01:32:03.159 --> 01:32:05.720
little bit more of that. Mm hmm. Yeah, I feel

1717
01:32:05.760 --> 01:32:08.359
like we could have done without all the Catholic school

1718
01:32:09.520 --> 01:32:15.720
madduncon suddenly beat my classmate to death almost scenes like

1719
01:32:16.439 --> 01:32:18.279
I don't know, yeah, at first I thought it was

1720
01:32:18.279 --> 01:32:21.479
gonna be like a religious trauma thing right when I

1721
01:32:21.760 --> 01:32:25.439
mentioned But then it doesn't seem connected to everything else,

1722
01:32:26.079 --> 01:32:28.239
because then I'm like that I thought, maybe, okay, well,

1723
01:32:28.439 --> 01:32:31.760
maybe you can kind of like learn about like, oh, well,

1724
01:32:31.960 --> 01:32:32.520
how did she.

1725
01:32:34.359 --> 01:32:35.079
Handle the.

1726
01:32:37.239 --> 01:32:40.319
Her mom being like obsessed and believing in the Muiskas

1727
01:32:40.399 --> 01:32:44.159
and their mythology and beliefs, and then how did she

1728
01:32:44.399 --> 01:32:48.640
like uh african't think of the world. How does she

1729
01:32:48.760 --> 01:32:52.199
mesh that with like her Catholic upbringing, But it's not

1730
01:32:52.319 --> 01:32:56.439
really brought up as a pointed yeah yeah. And then

1731
01:32:56.960 --> 01:33:01.079
also to me, like, I I think it's there so

1732
01:33:01.199 --> 01:33:05.239
that we get a real understanding of her feminism and

1733
01:33:05.359 --> 01:33:07.960
how it doesn't fall in line with the church. But

1734
01:33:08.159 --> 01:33:10.560
all the Senorita stuff that comes later does that for

1735
01:33:10.760 --> 01:33:12.680
us anyway? That's what I was necessary. Now, Like I

1736
01:33:12.720 --> 01:33:15.880
don't think it was necessary. Yeah, I just don't feel

1737
01:33:15.920 --> 01:33:19.720
that we needed in that at all. Yeah, And honestly

1738
01:33:19.840 --> 01:33:22.920
it would have been better without any of that it's not.

1739
01:33:23.600 --> 01:33:25.760
I think so too, because I started to get into

1740
01:33:25.840 --> 01:33:29.760
it once she was at the hotel, like yeah, and

1741
01:33:29.880 --> 01:33:33.159
then when she went back for the party, Yeah, yeah,

1742
01:33:33.319 --> 01:33:35.640
I almost wish it just took place all in the

1743
01:33:35.720 --> 01:33:36.199
full there.

1744
01:33:36.560 --> 01:33:40.840
Yeah, Like they're arriving for the party and then she's.

1745
01:33:40.680 --> 01:33:42.560
Like, I didn't even want to come, Like my dad,

1746
01:33:42.960 --> 01:33:44.920
Like I don't know why he suddenly wanted to come,

1747
01:33:45.640 --> 01:33:47.239
Like it could have just started with them arriving at

1748
01:33:47.239 --> 01:33:50.840
the party. I think so too, because yeah, she could

1749
01:33:50.880 --> 01:33:53.239
have gone like she did in her head and into

1750
01:33:53.279 --> 01:33:54.279
her memories with her mom.

1751
01:33:54.640 --> 01:33:57.600
Then Yeah. Yeah, I honestly don't think we needed to

1752
01:33:57.640 --> 01:33:59.079
be out of that, yes at all.

1753
01:34:00.199 --> 01:34:02.640
Also one more thought, because we haven't really talked about it,

1754
01:34:02.800 --> 01:34:05.680
but I was really into the description of all the

1755
01:34:05.800 --> 01:34:09.600
food that gott oh and that would bring her and

1756
01:34:09.680 --> 01:34:12.520
would prepare for her, especially the pairing of the hot

1757
01:34:12.680 --> 01:34:17.840
chocolate with the gesso, and what it seemed it was

1758
01:34:18.039 --> 01:34:19.680
like beat out there, like a different kind of bread.

1759
01:34:19.960 --> 01:34:22.720
I'm not even sure I pictured it as but that's

1760
01:34:22.760 --> 01:34:25.479
because of my Mexican centric Yes, but I want to

1761
01:34:25.520 --> 01:34:25.840
taste that.

1762
01:34:25.920 --> 01:34:26.560
I want to eat that.

1763
01:34:26.720 --> 01:34:30.439
Because I love cheese. You do love especially because I

1764
01:34:30.520 --> 01:34:36.000
think they said it was especially frescos as Mexicans eat.

1765
01:34:36.039 --> 01:34:40.359
I'm assuming our father started calling her. Oh yeah, I

1766
01:34:40.439 --> 01:34:42.720
forgot about that because I was obsessed. I would put

1767
01:34:42.760 --> 01:34:43.359
it on everything.

1768
01:34:43.960 --> 01:34:46.479
Yeah yeah, and then you would get all bloated.

1769
01:34:47.479 --> 01:34:51.920
Yeah, but I think I cured myself of I don't

1770
01:34:51.960 --> 01:34:53.399
know if it works like that, but I don't have

1771
01:34:53.479 --> 01:34:54.920
any problems with cheese anymore.

1772
01:34:54.920 --> 01:34:55.840
And as a kid I did.

1773
01:34:56.439 --> 01:35:01.119
I can eat fresco, but I can't just depend well.

1774
01:35:01.159 --> 01:35:02.760
I can eat as us just fine now.

1775
01:35:03.319 --> 01:35:07.039
And but that back then, back then, I used to

1776
01:35:07.159 --> 01:35:09.159
get so blowd I remember we would be sitting there

1777
01:35:09.159 --> 01:35:10.239
and be like, I look pregnant.

1778
01:35:12.000 --> 01:35:15.880
Our mom would force me to eat them. What are

1779
01:35:15.880 --> 01:35:16.279
they called?

1780
01:35:17.199 --> 01:35:19.560
I don't remember dates, but I don't remember what they're called.

1781
01:35:19.560 --> 01:35:20.159
It in Spanish.

1782
01:35:20.439 --> 01:35:24.000
Yeah, because supposedly helped. I don't know, but yeahs. But

1783
01:35:24.079 --> 01:35:25.319
I couldn't stop eating because of what.

1784
01:35:28.279 --> 01:35:31.399
It was worth it. I didn't join it. I was

1785
01:35:31.439 --> 01:35:34.640
like salivating I'm salamating rain, like you know what, I'm

1786
01:35:34.680 --> 01:35:38.119
gonna go get my gas, you know, not chocolate. Guess

1787
01:35:38.159 --> 01:35:39.039
what's going bun.

1788
01:35:40.000 --> 01:35:45.079
Honestly, it sounds good because of the whole sweet savory thing. Okay, yeah, yeah,

1789
01:35:45.520 --> 01:35:47.760
because yeah, I mean I love like, you know what,

1790
01:35:48.039 --> 01:35:50.359
savory cheese, sweet savory cheese.

1791
01:35:50.520 --> 01:35:53.840
I bought this cheese. I love charcouter. Also, what is

1792
01:35:53.880 --> 01:35:57.640
that TikTok? We saw? It's yeah?

1793
01:35:57.960 --> 01:36:04.039
Yeah, anyway, I like making sure hi and about this

1794
01:36:04.239 --> 01:36:07.960
cheese that had cranber in it, and it was delicious

1795
01:36:08.119 --> 01:36:11.600
with the meat and the cracker and that sweet savory thing.

1796
01:36:12.199 --> 01:36:17.960
I delicious you yeah, yeah, okay, anyway, what did you

1797
01:36:18.119 --> 01:36:18.760
rate this book?

1798
01:36:19.039 --> 01:36:20.680
I don't remember. Let me check.

1799
01:36:21.359 --> 01:36:23.279
Well, I'll tell you when I readed it while you're checking.

1800
01:36:23.560 --> 01:36:26.239
I actually don't remember what I put in storyograph. But

1801
01:36:26.359 --> 01:36:28.600
right now, personally I think a three out of five,

1802
01:36:30.279 --> 01:36:34.880
where I think that if you go into it knowing

1803
01:36:35.159 --> 01:36:40.479
that the writing is a little clunky and it's.

1804
01:36:41.359 --> 01:36:47.479
M maybe her first book, I think it is.

1805
01:36:48.319 --> 01:36:53.319
Yeah, I think going and not expecting Mexican Gothic or

1806
01:36:53.720 --> 01:36:57.000
the da. If you think about it as its own piece,

1807
01:36:58.239 --> 01:37:03.159
you know the writing is not going to be amazingly done.

1808
01:37:05.199 --> 01:37:09.520
It has room for it's a quick read, it's a

1809
01:37:09.600 --> 01:37:15.760
short book, and so the the setting of the Waterfall,

1810
01:37:15.800 --> 01:37:18.079
I think, to me makes it like if you're interested

1811
01:37:18.119 --> 01:37:22.479
in something that takes place outside of Mexico, outside of

1812
01:37:23.800 --> 01:37:28.960
the US. It in Columbia, so if you're looking for that,

1813
01:37:29.199 --> 01:37:31.720
and it's just like it has its little spooky moments,

1814
01:37:31.760 --> 01:37:34.279
but it's not super scary. So I think if you

1815
01:37:34.359 --> 01:37:38.840
want something like that that's like a quick read, the

1816
01:37:38.920 --> 01:37:43.720
setting is phenomenal, it's not that scary, but also you

1817
01:37:43.880 --> 01:37:47.279
have to know that it's the writing is kind of clunky,

1818
01:37:48.039 --> 01:37:51.399
going to annoying those things, then yeah, I do recommend it. However,

1819
01:37:51.439 --> 01:37:54.479
if you absolutely can't stand the type of character that

1820
01:37:54.560 --> 01:37:58.920
we describe that Antonia is, or like the clunkiness, then

1821
01:37:58.960 --> 01:38:01.600
I don't recommend it. But to me, I don't regret

1822
01:38:01.680 --> 01:38:04.560
as much as I complained to Karmen about it, and

1823
01:38:04.800 --> 01:38:07.760
I have a complaint throughout this episode, I don't regret

1824
01:38:07.920 --> 01:38:08.319
reading it.

1825
01:38:09.199 --> 01:38:11.000
Yeah. I think there was a lot of.

1826
01:38:11.720 --> 01:38:14.479
Enjoyable aspects in the book. It just wasn't like a

1827
01:38:14.600 --> 01:38:17.720
love five out of five kind of book. Yeah, meant

1828
01:38:17.760 --> 01:38:20.159
that happened sometimes I don't, like you said, I don't

1829
01:38:20.199 --> 01:38:23.159
regret regret reading it. I would still recommend it, especially

1830
01:38:24.319 --> 01:38:26.399
for like someone who's looking like you said, for something

1831
01:38:26.720 --> 01:38:29.880
in Latin America that's you know, not commonly, not as

1832
01:38:30.000 --> 01:38:34.800
commonly written about somewhere like Mexico. We got local legend,

1833
01:38:34.880 --> 01:38:39.640
local myths, beautiful descriptions of a waterfall, and gothic setting.

1834
01:38:39.880 --> 01:38:40.279
I like that.

1835
01:38:41.159 --> 01:38:44.840
Yeah, I read it three point twenty five. Oh wow,

1836
01:38:44.920 --> 01:38:47.239
you're reading was higher than mine. I think you were

1837
01:38:47.319 --> 01:38:48.319
complaining a lot more than me.

1838
01:38:48.960 --> 01:38:50.760
I was. I was, but you read it.

1839
01:38:51.039 --> 01:38:53.000
No, you started first, but I finished it first, and

1840
01:38:53.039 --> 01:38:56.760
I remember I was like sending you screen so long. Yeah,

1841
01:38:59.239 --> 01:39:01.479
but you know what I think, I think in my

1842
01:39:01.680 --> 01:39:05.279
head right now, I put it up to three because

1843
01:39:05.279 --> 01:39:08.880
I think I had it. Oh you did and previously,

1844
01:39:09.079 --> 01:39:12.399
but talking through Antonia, and like I said earlier, like

1845
01:39:12.600 --> 01:39:14.680
I am okay with her now as a character, and

1846
01:39:14.880 --> 01:39:17.239
so I think that's why I was like, okay, three three,

1847
01:39:17.800 --> 01:39:21.359
Like yeah, like we said, it's I cause you know,

1848
01:39:21.560 --> 01:39:23.039
like one out of five, it's like, oh no, I

1849
01:39:23.079 --> 01:39:25.239
absolutely wouldn't recommend it. But yeah, like we said, if

1850
01:39:25.279 --> 01:39:27.479
you're looking for those things and you're okay with knowing

1851
01:39:27.640 --> 01:39:31.319
like it's not gonna be elegant, but some parts will.

1852
01:39:32.520 --> 01:39:35.279
It's just not gonna be all elegant. I do recommend it.

1853
01:39:35.800 --> 01:39:39.079
Yeah, so yeah, overall again, I don't regret reading it

1854
01:39:39.359 --> 01:39:41.840
three out of five for me. Yeah, you rated three

1855
01:39:41.840 --> 01:39:45.279
point twenty five. Well, wow, I lowered it then, and

1856
01:39:45.439 --> 01:39:46.239
then I had it higher.

1857
01:39:46.560 --> 01:39:46.800
Okay.

1858
01:39:47.520 --> 01:39:51.520
I thought i'd put like two point seventy five. Okay, okay,

1859
01:39:51.560 --> 01:39:54.600
well then three point twenty five. Well, let make sure

1860
01:39:54.600 --> 01:39:57.239
that's not my review instead of years, No, it could

1861
01:39:57.279 --> 01:39:59.079
be no, yeah, three point twenty five. It says year,

1862
01:39:59.119 --> 01:40:03.039
it's yours. Okay, all right, well that's yeah, that's what

1863
01:40:03.159 --> 01:40:07.119
I read it in. Well, we are moving on to

1864
01:40:07.239 --> 01:40:09.680
our next buck, which I already finished.

1865
01:40:10.239 --> 01:40:14.439
Insane. I'm I'm like eighty percent through. I loved it again.

1866
01:40:14.479 --> 01:40:19.680
Though we're obsessed with Silviaia. We like, you can't say

1867
01:40:19.680 --> 01:40:20.399
anything wrong.

1868
01:40:20.640 --> 01:40:22.239
Anything about her. Anything she writes.

1869
01:40:22.319 --> 01:40:25.119
I read, Yeah, and anything she writes is a five

1870
01:40:25.159 --> 01:40:27.720
out of five automatically. I don't care what anyone says.

1871
01:40:30.159 --> 01:40:31.760
That's always going to be faut of five out of

1872
01:40:31.800 --> 01:40:34.039
five for both of us. I think I have some

1873
01:40:34.239 --> 01:40:36.800
I have rated less, but oh most of the time

1874
01:40:36.880 --> 01:40:40.960
it is five out of five. Yeah, which one's Silver Nitry?

1875
01:40:41.000 --> 01:40:42.760
I think I already like rated at like three point

1876
01:40:42.800 --> 01:40:45.880
seventy five. Oh, I love Silver Nightrain.

1877
01:40:47.760 --> 01:40:48.119
Anyway.

1878
01:40:48.680 --> 01:40:52.079
Yes, so the Wwitching by Sylvia Moreno Garcia is our

1879
01:40:52.239 --> 01:40:56.399
next book, and I want to say, this is how

1880
01:40:56.520 --> 01:41:02.680
you tackle journal entries, differ and timelines beautifully. Oh yeah,

1881
01:41:02.920 --> 01:41:10.239
oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. So yeah, I'm

1882
01:41:10.319 --> 01:41:12.560
very excited for that one. I mean again, I already

1883
01:41:12.640 --> 01:41:15.640
am halfway through it. It's going to be in Pasco, Washington.

1884
01:41:15.960 --> 01:41:19.000
Is that near you? No, sounds like three.

1885
01:41:18.840 --> 01:41:23.000
Hours, but I considered that's kind of fun going.

1886
01:41:23.560 --> 01:41:25.840
Yeah, I thought about it. I don't know.

1887
01:41:26.359 --> 01:41:29.840
Yeah, anyway, Yes, that is our next book. We will

1888
01:41:29.880 --> 01:41:33.279
send out the email notifying everyone it is our next book,

1889
01:41:34.039 --> 01:41:37.720
and other than that, let us know your thoughts on

1890
01:41:37.920 --> 01:41:40.079
Bochica or we being too harsh on it.

1891
01:41:40.239 --> 01:41:41.520
I don't think we were that.

1892
01:41:41.640 --> 01:41:46.199
Bad, especially complained. I think we're being generous. You know what. Actually,

1893
01:41:46.399 --> 01:41:48.119
now that you mentioned that, I wanted to read some

1894
01:41:48.239 --> 01:41:50.279
of the low star reviews just to see when you're

1895
01:41:51.279 --> 01:41:54.479
read it right now, we thought about them. Yeah, okay, sure.

1896
01:41:55.399 --> 01:41:59.600
The average rating on StoryGraph for Bochka is three point

1897
01:41:59.640 --> 01:42:05.800
sixty average. Okay, okay, this is a one star.

1898
01:42:06.000 --> 01:42:11.159
Let me see. Oh is it translated? No, no, never mind.

1899
01:42:12.720 --> 01:42:15.359
The review says this story takes place on a plot

1900
01:42:15.399 --> 01:42:18.800
of land considered sacred to an indigenous Columbian culture, the Muiska,

1901
01:42:19.399 --> 01:42:24.119
the titular I hate that word titular. Pochka is a

1902
01:42:24.720 --> 01:42:27.960
Musican religious figure, but I don't recall a single indigenous character,

1903
01:42:28.560 --> 01:42:31.199
just a group of white women who appropriate their beliefs

1904
01:42:32.319 --> 01:42:35.640
the storyline. And we know these are elite, rich women,

1905
01:42:35.800 --> 01:42:38.960
so I think we can assume they are probably white Colombians.

1906
01:42:39.760 --> 01:42:40.000
Yeah.

1907
01:42:40.319 --> 01:42:44.359
Yeah, those storyline had the potential to explore important themes

1908
01:42:44.479 --> 01:42:49.600
of colonization, religious paralysm, and cultural appropriation, but never comes

1909
01:42:49.680 --> 01:42:52.359
close to touching any of that. I also wish i'd

1910
01:42:52.399 --> 01:42:54.880
read it in the original original Spanish, because while it

1911
01:42:54.880 --> 01:42:57.119
takes place in the nineteen thirties, a lot of the

1912
01:42:57.279 --> 01:43:00.960
dialogue it seems anachronistic to modern I'm not sure if

1913
01:43:01.000 --> 01:43:03.319
that was an issue of translation. Overall, this was a

1914
01:43:03.359 --> 01:43:05.920
fast paced, quick read horror in which all conflicts are

1915
01:43:05.960 --> 01:43:08.399
all resolved in the end. Even I felt almost a

1916
01:43:08.439 --> 01:43:10.600
little too cleanly wrapped up. And then they were like

1917
01:43:10.800 --> 01:43:13.560
edited to add JK. Just realized it was originally ready English,

1918
01:43:13.640 --> 01:43:19.199
so I can't even blame them dialogue translation. And then

1919
01:43:19.239 --> 01:43:22.960
there's another one that that was funny because they comment

1920
01:43:23.079 --> 01:43:29.760
on this super modern word that the main character uses for.

1921
01:43:31.600 --> 01:43:32.199
Antonia.

1922
01:43:32.359 --> 01:43:34.720
Antonia uses and I can't find it because I don't

1923
01:43:34.720 --> 01:43:39.279
even remember reading that word. Okay, this one star one

1924
01:43:39.359 --> 01:43:42.720
says a lot of vibes, very little plot. The plot

1925
01:43:42.800 --> 01:43:45.479
we did get was boring, and honestly, Mexican Gothic was

1926
01:43:45.560 --> 01:43:48.359
just a better version of this story. The idea was there,

1927
01:43:48.479 --> 01:43:49.760
but the execution was not.

1928
01:43:51.039 --> 01:43:51.960
Yeah, that's very.

1929
01:43:52.199 --> 01:43:56.279
Bluntly put, but yeah, I agree with the idea being there,

1930
01:43:56.600 --> 01:43:59.000
but the execution not. Here's the other one that I

1931
01:43:59.119 --> 01:44:02.159
wanted to mention, and this one is a two point

1932
01:44:02.199 --> 01:44:05.079
seventy five try to say this book was a bit

1933
01:44:05.079 --> 01:44:08.279
of a disappointment. I'm absolutely feminist, but it's a pet

1934
01:44:08.319 --> 01:44:10.960
peeve of mine when authors show a feminist character by

1935
01:44:11.079 --> 01:44:14.319
just outright having them state the misogyny they experience like

1936
01:44:14.359 --> 01:44:17.319
they're explaining feminism one oh one. Maybe it's great for

1937
01:44:17.359 --> 01:44:19.840
people who really relate to female rage, but this way

1938
01:44:19.880 --> 01:44:22.520
of expressing it is not for me. I definitely appreciate

1939
01:44:22.520 --> 01:44:26.199
seeing more Latina authors out there blending their cultural especially

1940
01:44:26.279 --> 01:44:30.680
indigenous beliefs, into ideologies into a classic and ideologies into

1941
01:44:30.680 --> 01:44:33.640
a classic genre like gossip core. But the quality of

1942
01:44:33.680 --> 01:44:35.960
this book just isn't super great as a period piece.

1943
01:44:36.199 --> 01:44:38.079
I feel the dialogue feels very modern.

1944
01:44:38.680 --> 01:44:41.920
Parentheses she clapped back, hello, and I don't remember reading that.

1945
01:44:42.159 --> 01:44:44.880
She cloud back. I don't remember reading that either.

1946
01:44:45.239 --> 01:44:47.960
And sometimes characters say things that make no sense in

1947
01:44:48.000 --> 01:44:50.520
the context, which I think that was accurate.

1948
01:44:50.600 --> 01:44:51.760
I think we did stress that.

1949
01:44:52.079 --> 01:44:55.039
Yeah, oh yeah, somebody else mentioned the cloud back thing.

1950
01:44:55.199 --> 01:44:58.600
An there's two point seventy five uh huh, and I

1951
01:44:58.720 --> 01:45:02.600
do not remember reading that. That's the thing you get

1952
01:45:03.560 --> 01:45:08.520
when you're reading well, say, for example, who is literally

1953
01:45:08.640 --> 01:45:12.560
like a PhD historian, Like you're gonna feel like you're

1954
01:45:12.600 --> 01:45:16.760
there when she's writing, and even CB Mono Garcia deeply

1955
01:45:16.880 --> 01:45:22.319
deeply researches her books where you feel like they're taking

1956
01:45:22.359 --> 01:45:25.239
place in the time they say they are. Nothing feels

1957
01:45:25.319 --> 01:45:28.159
out of place. And that was another like, like I

1958
01:45:28.319 --> 01:45:32.479
was saying this, you could change the year to now

1959
01:45:32.760 --> 01:45:35.359
and it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Yeah,

1960
01:45:35.760 --> 01:45:38.239
you might as well have put it more modern, I think.

1961
01:45:38.560 --> 01:45:41.960
Right, you could have like it could have been fiction.

1962
01:45:42.159 --> 01:45:44.800
The history could have been fiction where because the hotel

1963
01:45:45.000 --> 01:45:50.479
was bought and created around that time, and you could

1964
01:45:50.520 --> 01:45:52.319
have just changed and you're already like this is a

1965
01:45:52.399 --> 01:45:55.199
fiction book. You could have just been like, oh, suddenly

1966
01:45:55.359 --> 01:45:58.399
someone built this in twenty twenty five, yeah, or like

1967
01:45:58.520 --> 01:46:01.399
twenty fourteen, like even have been a little more believable.

1968
01:46:02.359 --> 01:46:05.239
So yeah, I understand those complaints. Yeah, I think we're

1969
01:46:05.439 --> 01:46:08.560
we're being a little generous just because we're also latinas

1970
01:46:08.600 --> 01:46:12.760
and we yeah, and we were familiar with the Hunted

1971
01:46:12.840 --> 01:46:16.479
Place already. Yeah, and so yeah, that's like that's why

1972
01:46:16.560 --> 01:46:18.439
we said, if you're go into it knowing and not

1973
01:46:18.520 --> 01:46:21.319
expecting too much, yeah, it's And I did go into

1974
01:46:21.359 --> 01:46:23.800
it like that, not expecting much because I had seen

1975
01:46:23.880 --> 01:46:26.840
somebody else make a TikTok. I had a video about it,

1976
01:46:27.079 --> 01:46:30.039
and I said to you and they're like, this is

1977
01:46:30.159 --> 01:46:32.479
very met and I was like, Okay, let me lower

1978
01:46:32.600 --> 01:46:33.399
my expectations.

1979
01:46:33.439 --> 01:46:36.199
But you shouldn't have to do, you know, right right?

1980
01:46:36.840 --> 01:46:38.880
So yeah, no, I agree, I do agree.

1981
01:46:38.960 --> 01:46:43.199
Yeah, but yeah, yeah, okay, Well we announced our next book.

1982
01:46:43.880 --> 01:46:47.760
We already started reading it, which is rare whenever we

1983
01:46:47.760 --> 01:46:50.479
would do these book club I already finished it. Yeah

1984
01:46:50.520 --> 01:46:51.880

1985
01:46:51.920 --> 01:46:52.319

1987
01:46:54.520 --> 01:46:57.119
You went on a reading retreat. Well no, but I

1988
01:46:57.399 --> 01:47:00.640
read them on my vacation when oh, that's on your
